In my experience, closet systems are easy to install. Just be sure that you are attaching the framework to the studs in the wall or if a stud is unavailable at least using heavy duty wall anchors. Also, if you buy the systems as a kit pay attention to what pieces actually come in the kit as you could possible use one kit for more than one closet. I bought a kit for every closet at the last house we remodeled and ended up returning some because there were extra pieces that could be used in other spaces.

That being said, built-in shelving, I believe, is a better investment when considering the useful life of the unit and return on investment in regards to the value of your home.

Hi Susan welcome to the team. Sorry for being late in welcoming you, feeling crappy here at the moment.

I don't have a closet system in my house either, it's an early 70's house and built in robes weren't the thing back then. I make do with the one in the spare room and a series of drawer cabinets to put stuff in.

Peace and long life - Jules

Unless your closets are the exact size for the closet units, you will be better to build them yourself--or do a combination or pieces from some purchased stuff. Welcome to the team!

Well, Hi Susan and emoticon to the Team !!!
I'm a Vintage type of gal so I look for dressers that fit into the closets and wrought iron hooks and brackets for shelves.
I saw something kind of cool...
On the closet doors, they built a shoe rack (made out of wood) so their shoes were on the door in easy reach rather than on the floor or taking up closet rod space with that hanging thing.
Kind of like this...

Me, too. Can't wait to get my hands dirty. So I planted some basil seeds in a pot the other day. LOL

Hi, I'm Susan and I'm an avid gardener and home remodeller. I live on seven acres in rural Canada - sadly very poor soil so all gardening is in raised beds. Current diy project is to renovate and organize several closets. One small entry closet done and three large bedroom closets to go, so I'll be searching for tips for economical approaches. Can't decide whether to buy closet system or build something from scratch at the moment.
Can't wait for the snow to go so I can get out in the garden - much easier to get lots of exercise in when i can get outside. (Yes I know! I could get out in the snow.. but I'm just not a lover of the - 20C and lower temperatures).
I've been a sparkpeople member for a few years but have never taken advantage of the community aspects of the site. This post I hope will be the start of my new strategy for weight loss and a step to success. Next step - to update my page and then start blogging. Only time will tell if I can manage to keep this up.
Look forward to reading the tips and ideas on this team's page particularly. So far it looks to be jam packed with good ideas.
