Yenduchaka - I totally agree. My fiance was raised Presbytarian and is a devout and fantastic Christian. One of the first things I brought up when we started dating was religion and he said he was fine with raising our kids Catholic, but he "couldn't promise that he would convert". Even though he is such a Christian man, it was so hard for me! All I could think about was how we would explain to our kids that we have our church and daddy has his church. It also broke my heart that we couldn't get involved in church together. Now we go to church every Sunday, I'm his RCIA sponsor, and we have both developed a great relationship with the priest. Prayers have been answered!

Welcome Tamara! So happy to hear you are back in the Church and that your fiance is also entering the Church. I converted just 5 years ago and it is the best place to be in the entire universe! SparkPeople, and especially Catholic Critters, is the second best place to be :) You will find a lot of encouragement here for both your physical AND spiritual health.

Welcome, Tamara!

How wonderful that your fiance has converted! I have friends who are Catholic and trying to raise their kids in the faith, but their spouses are either a different denomination or don't believe in God. I don't know how they do it.

Hello! My name is Tamara and I was baptized and raised in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. I fell away from the church for a long time, but in the past couple of years I have attended a Roman Catholic church and reignited my faith. Also, after months of praying, my fiance has decided to convert to Catholicism and I couldn't be more thankful! We plan to raise our children Catholic and home school them. I look forward to interacting with all of you and sharing our faith on this journey. God bless!

Welcome Stephanie! And congratulations on your upcoming Confirmation!
I, too, was baptized as an infant (Anglican faith, but all valid baptisms are "Catholic"), but didn't get confirmed until much later.

And welcome to YENDUCHAKA as well! I'm glad you've joined us too.

Hi everyone! I've been a member of SP since May 2011, but I am new to this team. I'm a cradle Catholic, in my 30s, married for 15 years with 3 children that I home educate. That's all I can think of by way of introduction. If you'd like to know anything else you can check out my spark page or send me a message.

Have a very merry and blessed Christmas!

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

I was baptized in the Catholic Church as an infant but was not brought up in the faith. In the beginning of the new year, I will be officially confirmed in the Catholic Church emoticon

Actually, I think I've only ever read that quote of his, nothing else.

Are you a fan?

Just reading a bit about him here on the internet, I think I could be a fan, apart from some of his "iffy" statements about Jewish people.

Hello fellow Catholics! I'm new to Spark People -- I joined two weeks ago and just found this team. I'm also a somewhat new Catholic, having been confirmed at Easter 2008 at age 46. Thanks be to God!

I am determined to get physically healthy again, which I have not been for the past 12 years or so. That means I want to be a regular exerciser, strong and fit, and back down to a healthy weight. That translates to losing around 40 pounds. So far I've lost 4 pounds since Dec. 1 and began a strength training plan this week. Praying that God will keep me with it this time and that it will be a lifestyle change for the rest of my life.

I like that we have team goals that focus on spiritual fitness as well as physical wellness. I look forward to meeting you all and encouraging each other in our wellness journey!

To our health,
Christina

Hey everyone!! This my second time giving SP a try. I'm in a better place now with everything. I'm a cradle Catholic but finally understanding it what it means to be Catholic after 20+ years away from "home." I'm a happily married mother of three (17,13,7) which I home school. I've been married to my dear husband Michael (a convert) for 18 years. So glad to find like-minded people here on SP. That's probably one of the many reasons I didn't do well the first time. I depended on SP to do the work for me. Now I'm ready to do the work for myself. Have a Blessed day to my new friends!!

Hello! I am a convert. I was originally from church of the Nazarene. I found Catholicism when I was in college but never fulfilled my destinies. My husband and two younger boys all started Catholic church on October 23, 2011. We started CCD and RCIA classes. After long wait, because of annullment processes, my husband and I received the sacraments of baptism, communion and confirmation, then renewed our vows allin the same day in May. Our boys were baptized in March. Then our 10 yo received Holy Communion the day after us!

I do many things in the church now including Tribunal secretary, sacristan, lector, CCD teacher, and choir co leader. My 10 yo is an altar server and my husband teaches RCIA. I look forward to discussing these new ways with all.

Welcome to the Team and for sharing your story with us.

We have a wonderful priest in my city - Father Martin - please pray for him, he is very ill.

Anyway, he is fond of saying that his mother prayed daily for 7 years for him when he was a young man and had fallen away from the Church. He loves to add that if she had only prayed for 5 years, he would have gone back to the Church, it was the last 2 years that made him a priest, lol.

Hello everyone,

I'm a 28 year old cradle catholic. I struggled for a long time with my faith. When I was young, I went to a non-denominational Christian school that was supported mostly by a Baptist church. Consequently, my faith as a Catholic was attacked regularly. I wish I could say that I was strong enough to never doubt my faith. When I was a teen, I questioned many of our beliefs. Quite frankly, I wished I wasn't Catholic.

However, God blessed me with a wonderful mother who patiently led me back and helped me see God's truth. I always went to mass, even during my years of struggle. Now, I'm happy to say, those events have made me a stronger Catholic today. I'm glad that neither God or my mother gave up on me. I am, before anything else, a Catholic, and I can't imagine being anything else.

It's nice to meet everyone, and I look forward to growing closer to our physical and spiritual goals with you all!

I bet!
He reminds me (and I've never even met him!) of the wonderful priest who brought me into the Church. He seemed crusty and firm, but he was a real sweetheart, and people often thought he would be a real tough one in the confessional, but it was in the confessional that he really shone, and his compassion and love of Truth came through loud and clear! I sure miss him (he has retired and moved away).

Hello, Barbara! Thank you so much for your story.
I have tears in my eyes, at the beauty of it, and the amazing work that the Holy Spirit does. The Lord truly calls each of us back when we have become lost, doesn't He?

I thank God that you walked into the confessional to that kindly, understanding, godly man! You were meant to see him there, and no one else. He was truly Jesus for you. MAy God bless him now and always.

And may God continue to bless and guide you and your daughter!

Hi, I'm Barbara, 60 yrs. I was raised Catholic in a very conservative Italian family. I fell away from the church for about 20 years. I became a single mother and raised my daughter by myself. I sent my daughter to church and catechism, but felt it was her choice what she did with her faith. For me, I wasn't having any of it! She and her husband were Presbyterian, but he was killed in Iraq in 2005 & 2 days later his 3rd child was born. I moved to Michigan with my daughter to support her emotionally. I went to my daughter's Presbyterian church, but I knew this wasn't the place for me. Eventually my daughter found catholicism and reconfirmed her faith and lead me right back to church. Eventually I walked into the confessional, afraid of what the priest would say about those 20 hostile years, but here was a very old, retired, loving priest who listened to me and helped me to understand God's handiwork in my life. I had given my daughter the gift of life and now she repaid me the gift of catholicism. Without her guidance, I wouldn't have made the step by myself. It was a changing day for me. I have now followed my daughter to Virginia. She is remarried to a very good catholic man and I now have a 4th grandchild with a 5th on the way! I have health problems now, but my faith is strong and my will to live is stronger. Glad to be a part of this group and sorry for the long post.

Welcome to both of you!

Ariel - you are so right. Balance is the key. I find it a challenge most days, but still I work at it. Some days I feel I have it better than others. Congrats on the joining in at your church!

Sarah - Wow - what a busy household, and busy life! What trades are your children (young adults) in?

I'm Sarah...a convert, (in 2003) mom of 4 (3 sons & a daughter) who homeschools, runs a motel, is active in the GOP locally & teaches CCD. The kids are now 22, 20, 17 & 14. Two are in college/trade schools & the other two are Senior & Freshman in high school. I'm married 23 years to a helicopter mechanic, (non-catholic)

Hi! I'm Ariel and 27 years old. After college, I got involved with my first professional job and stopped going to mass. Fast forward four years, started going to mass again and now I am involved in the women's group at church and singing in the choir!

I'm getting more and more involved in my faith every day, and am really enjoying my spiritual journey! Next step....my physical transformation! I know each day is all about discipline in all aspects of life, so I am working on balancing it all! :)

Welcome Mary and Trish! We are all challenged here. Many face multiple challenges. Which is why we need one another. We hope you find support and companionship here. And, of course, the power of prayer! Peace be with you. emoticon

*sigh* I love junk too!

I read a blog on here once about "One is too many, a thousand isn't enough". It was all about how one cookie (or piece of pie, or chip, or piece of candy), once eaten, often leads to many, many more, so it is better usually to not have the first one. They are much easier to resist then. I'm working on that!

Welcome to the team!

Hello, I'm Mary, wife and mom. I need to lose about a hundred pounds. I love to eat (mostly junk) and it's become an emotional thing.

Welcome to the Team!

I admit I chuckled a little at your poignant question. That is so true! When we smell those lovely smells, how do we resist? Especially when you have not smelt them for so long!

All the best as you struggle to meet your goals, despite the lovely smells of food.
