I'm back after a hiatus. Back on track since 1/3/15 & doing well. I just moved down to 230ville. Have a way to go to see Onederland. That is my goal to see Onederland by the end of this year. I like your new user name, Elise

I did pretty good at the market yesterday. I got healthier versions of my favorite snacks. Last night it snowed & I think we got about 4". I'm staying indoors-I'll probably clean, cook, read & crochet(I like to do it-I'm making an afghan).

Today I'm going to the market. I'm shopping for healthier foods & substitutes for my favorite foods.

Jo-Ann--It's hard to get to a pool since I don't own a car. Our mass transit is very limited & I can't afford to join anyplace. Maybe I'll try a low-carb plan.

I'm on the MA/NH border, Elise. I'm very lucky, I guess, because there are several local Ys and other pools near me.

Sometimes hotels, community and senior centers, colleges, and technical high schools have pools with some open times for the public--sometimes you have to dig a little to get the correct info. But I've learned that several of my Spark friends live in areas without a pool, something that didn't occur to me. I've always lived within about 20 miles of here and there's always been a pool I could get to.

Perhaps you could find some fun free exercise videos here on Spark people (would chair exercises work for you? I'm sure there are other gentle exercises, too.) Sites like YouTube also have some good free exercise videos. Maybe you could find a Zumba Gold routine or a Silver Sneakers routine there, just to liven things up? Sometimes there are exercise programs on public television stations or local access. (I'm never home when they are on.)
Sometimes people get rid of exercise equipment that they aren't using. I wonder if you could keep an eye out to try to get a free stationary bike or treadmill.

Maybe you'll want to look into a low-carb diet. It works well for me because I feel full and get to eat quite a bit on it. And, of course, the more you exercise, the more calories you can burn.

Jo-Ann--Where do you live so you can swim every day? I wish I could but we don't have a town pool. Depending on the weather, I walk or just move around the house. I was going to Weight Watchers meetings but after a while I couldn't afford it. Now I'm just TRYING to cut down my food intake. It isn't easy but doing the best I can!!!!!!!!!

Good morning, Elise!
I am struggling to get below 200, too. In November, I was getting very close, but then I had some setbacks over the holidays. (Lots of reasons, some excuses were better than others…) I'm trying to get back down to November weight again, and then I will work to cross that big hurdle.

A low carb diet (South Beach) seems to work best for me, but sometimes I have trouble sticking with it.

I do some form of exercise every day. My best advice is to start slowly and gently, then steadily increase just a little every week.

I'm a big fan of water aerobics. (I teach classes on 4 nights.) It is great because it can be adapted for most people. I have bad ankles and knees.

I also swim (every day), walk (on a treadmill or outdoors when the weather is good), and do other things now and then (upper arm exercises with free weights, wall pushups, sometimes Nautilus-type circuit exercises with machines).

I try to challenge myself and try new things, new approaches.

What is your current plan? What do you think you might need to do differently?

Well, I could use any ideas, tips, encouragement & recipes. In the past, It has been SO difficult to get below 200(actually it's been hard to lose PERIOD!!). I could, also, use some ideas for exercise(I get out of breath VERY easily).

Hi everyone! My name is Bonnie. I finally joined this team. I've been on SP for almost eight months now and have had this team bookmarked on my computer for a while but forgot about it. I started at 309 and didn't want to join until I was around 250-275. Well, now I'm a little under that and saw it in my bookmarks again today, decided I should join! My main forms of exercise are walking videos (such as Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds) and walking outside, but I'm trying to incorporate some kickboxing if my joints and body cooperate with me. I also like Biggest Loser Cardio Max DVD, which I plan to get back into soon because kickboxing is hard on my ribs. I have a lot of joint pain and rib/back/neck pain to go along with it so it's difficult to do anything more strenuous than walking and walking videos, which really can get boring after a while!

Anyway, I'm writing a novel on here. I haven't been under 200 since I was around 13-15 years old, and I'm now 26. So it's been a long time and I can't wait to be under there as an adult!

~Bonnie~

Hi everybody! Just found this team and think this is awesome! Honestly, I don't remember a time whenever I was in "onederland"...minus when I was a child obviously. I would love to experience what it's like to be in that weight range. I just recently decided to take this journey again (I'm not new to SP, but have been off and on a few times) and am excited to begin it again. :)

I too want to find Onederland! I haven't been there in many, many years. I joined SP in April 2014 at 250.2 lbs. I really didn't put in a lot of effort to losing weight until this past weekend when I joined WW. I had my first weigh-in today and I'm down to 242.1 lbs! Not all at once of course! LOL. I've been adding almost daily exercise and I haven't had fast food all week. I don't really enjoy cooking but I'm trying to give a few new recipes a try. I hope to reach Onederland in the near future!

I am now only 8 pounds away from 199==Onederland! Haven't seen 100's at all since 2005! Hang on, and remember we are human, we are determined, we will get there!!! Hello Everyone,
I want to finally break back into wonderland and be done with the 200's. I'm restarted my exercise program today and have been purging my kitchen and pantry of "bad foods" and have been following a healthy eating plan for the past week but just remember to come back to spark. I've lost 5 lbs over the last month and don't want to lose any ground. I'm hoping that spark and this team will help me stay motivated and I'll finally get back under 200 and fit into some long forgot clothes in the back of my closet. Please let me know how I can be a more productive and involved member of this team.
Be well,
Marissa

Hi! I am excited to have found this team. I am currently 18 lbs away from being out of the 200s....I am always SO close, and then can't seem to push over. The closet I have been is 209 lbs and then I gained 10 back. Gr. :) But I am ready this time. My goal is to be out of the 200s by xmas. I look forward to participating in this challenge!

I'm glad I found this team. For over ten years I have been over two hundred pounds and here recently realized, that I have come to think this is normal for me. Being obese is not normal and I want to do something about it. I'm having trouble staying emotionally stable because I keep thinking I need a man or that I am lonely. Okay, I get lonely sometimes but I need to chill out and really focus on the love God has for me and the love my brothers and sisters have for me and the love I need to have for myself

There is a scripture that says "faith without works is dead". So I am ready to show God that I love him by focusing on his kingdom and knowing that everything else will fall into place.

I will get under the two hundred pounds, my goal is before Feb of next year.I can do it with Gods help. So can you.

God will make you firm, he will make you strong.

I've had trouble with self-sabotage before too, and I've been yo-yo-ing up and down a few lbs all summer. Like you I have recommitted myself. I've set some mini-goals for this month. I've set some 60-second challenges to do "extra" things, both physical and mental to help me get there.

emoticon everyone, I'm new to this team but not to SP. Every time I come close to Onederland I seem to sabotage my own efforts. Today is day 1 of being back on track. I would like to get out of Twoterville & enter Onderland by the end of this year or by the end of January. I don't think that's being to unrealistic. I revamped my spark page & recommitted myself. I am going to try very hard this time to make it to Onederland.

Hey gang!
I'm new to the team but not to Spark. I've been here for about 9 years - in and out. It's a struggle, but my biggest goal is to be in Onederland one day. But my first goal is to break the 225 mark. I haven't been able to get under that since I had my 3rd child 6 years ago. I got back down to 220 a couple weeks after I had him, but didn't stay there. I've been bouncing back and forth between 225 and 255 ever since. I'm determined this time will be the last time! I've managed to lose 15lbs since the end of May just from changing jobs this summer. I'm hoping to continue the losing streak after school starts in a few days. This is for the most part how it works for me. I lose weight over the summer or winter breaks and I gain it back in a semester. I can't do it this time. I have to keep losing.

ok. sorry for the giant bio. I hope I get inspiration from all of you :) Have a lovely!

Hello everyone, I am back again. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for about 10 years. Sometimes I have spent more time away than here. I remember I found so much encouragement on this discussion board. I want to be in One derland by Christmas.

Hi, I joined this group several years ago and while I have lost 40 pounds in the last 10 years I am still over 200. I feel more determined than ever now. I am hoping to retire next July and I am using this year to work on my fitness in order to have be healthier in my Third Age.
Checking in here can help, I'm sure. I want to encourage all of you as well!

Hi, My name is Sharonette. Oh my goodness!.. I had almost forgotten about this site. I have lost 78 lbs and am down to 208. I want to get below 200 so bad, but am stuck! LOL. I am 47 years old and have not been at this weight since my early twenties. If I can just get out of the 200 club and into wonderland, I have promised myself that I will get my teeth fixed. I am so excited!!
I just want to say hello to everyone in the group. I have faith that we are all going to reach our one hundreds at some point. I wish each and every one in this group the best week ever! I look forward to reading your posts. :)

Hi, I'm Cat. I just joined SP last week. I knew I needed to get fit, but I've avoided the scales for years. Stepped on two days ago and was astounded! The last time I checked I was 180, how did I gain so much? I'm excited about the journey ahead - a complete life-changing experience to get healthy and get my life on the road.
This is my first forum, so if I'm posting in the wrong spot, I apologize.

I love this site it is the best thing i have ever found before thanks to my doctor i know have the support i need to track my every progress. I wish everyone the best of luck and may you all reach your goals. I have a long way before i reach my goal but i do live for the moment. God Bless!!!!

Just found this team today! Couldn't have come at a better time, because I stepped on the scales this morning, and I couldn't believe it...I had dropped 21 lbs. since the beginning of the year! I'm going to check it again this afternoon, but I was stunned! I'm at 212 now, so I'll soon be under 200.

I will say that this loss is totally due to changes in my diet AND I'm cycling to work every day. I'm going to the gym 3-5 times a week, and I'm active here on SparkPeople. The nutrition tracker has probably been the biggest help to me so far, as I honestly didn't realize what I was eating...with regard to nutritional value. I'm not a complete idiot, though, as I can plainly see in the mirror what I've done. Bummer! (No pun intended.)

At any rate, I think I can say that I'm finally in "the zone" now, where I can beat myself at my own mind game and drop these unwanted, unhealthy pounds.

Good luck to all of you who are after the same pot of gold!

I just found your thread today. I started SP this year with big hopes to be under 200 by my 62nd birthday in April. Reality has hit and I know I won't be there by April but I hope to be there by 2015. I see many of you have health problems, so do I. Guess it comes with the territory, but I am working on changing it. After a number of joint surgeries, asthma, COPD, PTSD, etc. I know it will take me longer then I want, but I will do it and so will you. Not only have I stopped gaining, which I have done very well for past 10 years but I am taking baby steps to a healthier life and losing a little.

Hello. I am Michelle. Ia m the mother of 3 children. My oldest is 16 and my youngest is 9. I have always (as long as I can remember) struggled with my weight. In the past few years I have gained a lot of weight. This is turn has affected other health issues. My family has a long history of diabetes and other health issues. My grandmother passed away when I was 16 due to complications from diabetes. Now my mother is struggling with diabetes. I want to do what I can to prevent health issues and I certainly do not want my children to watch my health decline.

Hello, my name is Deborah. I am a mother to 5 and grandmother to 7. Our youngest is in college now and I've been dealing with empty-nest syndrome. I've been a SparkPeople member for a while, but, have been inactive for the past several months. During the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season I became very depressed and gained nearly 20 pounds! I decided this month to get back on track. I am at 237 right now...having lost 3 pounds this past week. I have set a long-term goal of losing 40 pounds by Christmas this year. I think this is a good goal and with some motivation and help I can achieve it. I was diagnosed with bi-polar (manic depression & anxiety), two carcinoid tumors, sleep apnea, and diabetes all at the same time about three years ago and it threw me into a downward tail spin. It is a vicious cycle for me, but I have slowly been making headway and getting everything under control. My tumors are slow growing and have not grown in size for the past two years so I am not too worried about them at this time. I can not use a c-pap machine for the sleep apnea due to the fact I can't stand to have anything on my face, so I sleep with a fan every night blowing directly in my face--Dr. approved for the time being, I was on 3 diabetes oral medicines and have been able to get off of one so far...my goal is to get down to one and to stay off insulin. My next major goal is to avoid bladder surgery. Last week I had a Dr. appt. and we discussed the fact that if I can loose just 20 pounds it would help tremendously. So that is my first goal...to loose that 20 pounds.

Hi everyone, my names Anita and I'm trying to lose around 115lbs. I've been steadily gaining since my 20s. Depression and lack of motivation were big factors but I'm tired of being this weight. I started spark in 2012 but lost willpower again. I'm excited to start back up this year and I'm already seeing some progress. Good luck to everyone on getting to onederland! emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm back. Hope to be able to stay involved with sparkpeople this time around. Still having computer issues but will do what I can.
To those that don't know me and a reminder to those that do, I'm Vicki. I'm 57 years old and have about 68 lbs to lose. I only lost 6 lbs in 2013 so am really hoping to do much better this year.
I am married to Bob and he's just had to get a pacemaker/defibrullator in March, and is still adjusting to having a very weak heart (20% heart strength), so I tend to stress over his health a lot, and when I'm stressing out, I tend to eat more than I should. So I will be working on making healthier food choices over time.

I've been yoyoing for the past few months and need serious motivation to get back on track. I as 225 in the spring but after some stress due to some not so pretty life shaking things I've slowly crept back up. I am now 242. My highest weight was 285 when I was pregnant with my son. I have been under 200 only once during my adult life and as soon as I hit 190 I got preganant with my daughter and gained it all back. I've been on sparkpeople since I had my son 3 years ago and have found some success with it. I just recently joined a bunch of teams to gain encouragement. Looks like this will be one of my favorites!

Hi all, I'm not new to SP either but I've been away so long I've reset all my goals etc. I'm a professional ONEderlander as I've been under the 200 pound mark several times, only to get back over. And every time I swear it won't happen again! It's been a very tough year but it's time to take control of what I can. Anyhow, I'm 2 pounds over my previously high weight OUCH!

My first goal - I will be weighing in tomorrow and every Friday, and plan to lose 10 pounds or more by Christmas. Is there a similar team challenge happening now? I haven't checked yet haha

Hi! Not new to SP but new to this section of the site. I'm starting week 5 of my weight loss journey and I'm down 19 lbs so far (most water weight etc). Starting weight was 256 and I'm at 237. The first 2 weeks the lbs melted off and the last 2 weeks I've plateaued. Know I have a long way to go on weight loss so trying not to get discouraged.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi, everyone! My name is Patricia. I lost fifty pounds about two years ago with SP. In the past year, I have managed to gain back 25 of those pounds. Urg! My body is giving me lots of not-so-gentle reminders of what all of this excess weight is doing to my bones, joints, and organs. I'm getting real with myself and getting back on track tonight. I look forward to completing this journey with all of you!
