Hi, my name is Maria and I would love to build up to 10,000 steps a day!
I'm going to see how many steps my "normal" day has to begin with and then figure out ways to gradually increase that number.
Just looking over the postings of this team I can see I'm going to get a lot of inspiration here!

My name is Leah. I am very excited about joining the 10,000 steps a day team. I've been gone from SP for a while and just came back Aug. 1st. I got new batteries for my pedometer and my heart rate monitor so that I can use my favorite gadgets. LOL I'm gonna start fresh using them tomorrow. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi everyone. I plan to buy myself a new pedometer today. Used to wear one and loved the incentive. I'm 78yrs old and walking isn't as easy as it once was, but I know if I will get back out that door, I will improve. I also would like to take off some pounds and started my diet 3 weeks ago. I will start posting my steps each day the 1st of September. I will be walking in my neighborhood to begin. Looking forward to getting acquainted and becoming healthier.

Hello everyone. I live in California and I am 54 yrs. old with a great wife. We are both walking every day. A couple of months ago I was unable to walk 5 minutes without stopping. But now I am walking 10k every day. Not always fast, maybe 100 steps a minute but I am walking and it has helped my health greatly. Look forward to chatting with every one.

Hi everybody!!

I just completed an eight week 10,000 step a day challenge with my work. I've been training for a road race for four months so I had to put that training ahead of the 10,000/day goal but the race is on Saturday! I'm going continue wearing the pedometer even though my challenge is over and I'm going to shoot for the per day goal after the race is completed. (I didn't do the 10,000 on rest days during training so I would avoid over-training.) I did manage to average 12,075 though and hope to keep that up even after the race is over!!

Hello Everyone,
I just got my pedometer on Saturday and today is day 1. I know I will achieve "at least" 10,000 steps per day because I refuse to not see that 10,000 on the meter before I take if off at night! emoticon

Hi Everyone,

So glad I found this group. I bought a pedometer about two months ago and have been striving to walk 10,000 steps per day ever since. Some days I'm successful others - not so much. So glad I've found a group with the same goal!!! emoticon

Hi everyone! My name is Jeanette and I bought my pedometer the first of the month. I was so surprised to see how sedentary my life is outside of my planned workouts. I have averaged 10,000 steps/day since the first of the month, but do find it a challenge. I will probably find it much easier once the weather cools off and walking outside is not such a "chore". Anyway, the pedometer encourages me to get up and MOVE!

Hi Tiffany!

My name is Jeanne. Although I am new to this team, I have been walking with a pedometer for a few years now. I wear my pedometer (an Omron) clipped on the edge of my pants packet on my left side. I would suggest that you clip it on your side so that it can pick up the movements of your hips and legs while you walk. I have a habit of dropping things so I also replaced the little plastic safety clip that comes with the pedometer with one with a metal clip. There should be instructions with your pedometer on how to set it. Most have you enter in your height and weight and then your stride length. You can figure out your stride by walking about ten steps with your normal stride, then measure it from start to finish in inches. Now you calculate your stride length by dividing the total distance by 10. If you had walked a total of 320 inches, then you divided that by 10 which would be 32 or 2 feet, 8 inches. Your stride would then be 2 ft, 8 in. I hope this helps. emoticon Good luck with your walking!

Good morning! My name is Tiffany and I just bought a pedometer. I have no clue how to use it. The directions say to wear it on your hip inline with the seam of your pants. But I read something online that said it should be worn in the front.

Any suggestions?! HELP!

Hello 10,000 Steps a Day team!

I am here not because I walk 10,000 steps a day, but because I aim to do so. I work a full time sit down job, and am a full time student at an online university. That is a lot of sitting most days, and I'm working to find ways to get steps in, although most days I do not hit 10,000. Things I have started doing to get extra steps:
1)park at the back of a lot when shopping or going to work.
2)when at work, use a restroom that is further away from my desk
3)If I don't have time to go on a real walk/jog, I will walk/jog back and forth in my driveway for whatever amount of time I have.

I'll get there some day, I just know it. My highest day thus far was around 14,500. I have some travel coming up that may reduce my numbers but I will be creative to find a way to get in as many steps as possible.

Hi! I regularly walk at least 10,000 steps daily so I figured it would be a great team to join. When the weather is cloudy I take along my umbrella. That doesn't mean that I haven't been caught in a downpour - it feels good on a hot and humid day to get thoroughly drenched! I have encountered many people and animals on my walks. I consider it a good day when I meet a friendly dog or cat that allows me to give them a good scratch behind the ears. My walking time is a chance to see the world outside my immediate neighborhood. I take photos of attractive landscape designs or unusual houses. I also use the time to think about my challenges and how to address them. Besides helping my heart and joints, these walks help my mind. emoticon

Hello! My name is Joy. I found SparkPeople.com a while back but was never very active with it. I am trying again! I thought if I joined a challenge I would make sure I come back at least once a week, so I decided to join this SparkTeam and do the August Challenge. I am going to reach my goal of walking at least 10,000 steps per day! I may need some motivation though... emoticon

Hi everyone! I'm new here and fairly new to counting my steps. l've been monitoring my steps recently and I can usually get about 7,000 without trying too much (my job requires me to walk a lot) so I'm aiming for 10,000 every day in August. Wish me luck!

Thats great, lovely to have you here, no matter how often you post, but if you could keep a record of your daily steps and post them when you can that would keep you an active member of the team - not to mention being recognised for your efforts at the end of each month.

Stay active.

Hi, I was on SparkPeople about 5 years ago and dropped weight and got into the pedometer/10,000 steps thing. I'm back and ready to get those steps up again - I'm on walkertracker.com, too, and would love comrades if some of y'all are on there (there I'm toojaded37). I don't know how often I'll post or have time to read, but I'm hoping just resparking will respark me in real life.

My goal this first week is 7,000 steps a day, then bump it up to 8,000, then 9,000, and within a month to be fully at 10,000+ a day again.

Hello, I have decided to buy a new pedometer this morning and join this group once again after a lengthy absence. I think this one will count my steps more accurately. Excited to be back!

Welcome Kim, lovely to have you join us, you are in the right place for support, but you do need to be a part of the team and its threads for us to know how you are doing and to get to know you, so just SHOUT and we'll be right here for you.

Pop that pedometer on as soon as you get up in the morning, instead of sitting watching tv, when the adverts come on do some marching on the spot!

Good luck and don't forget to record your numbers with our July Steps (soon to be August!)

Hi!
I'm Kim! I am a type 2 diabetic who also has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and rheumatoid arthritis. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps per day so that I can go off some of my meds and hopefully get rid of most of my medical conditions. Looking for support and encouragement from other Spark walkers! emoticon

Never Give Up!
Have a Wonderful Day!!!!

Kim :)
