I'm not new here but returning from a long hiatus. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer last April and given just weeks to live. She was resilient and lived until December 21st. She suffered no pain but slept 20- 23 hours a day and was full care.

In complying with her wishes, we kept my mother at home and between myself,came in for a few hours each day but it seemed like a very long journey and one that took away all my strength and ambition.
Watching your mother slowly die before you every day for 8 months is not an easy task.

I also suffered terribly with bilateral plantar fasciitis which hindered me from walking much farther than a few blocks around the neighborhood.
For these reasons, I felt it best to take a leave from my two SP teams on Facebook so I could put all my energy into taking care of my mom and my feet.

Yesterday I went for my first power walk of the year. I didn't mean to go the 3.3 miles that I did because I wanted to start slowly but the route I was on just happened to be that long. Lucky for me, my feet are fine but I had some delayed onset muscle soreness throughout the rest of my body this morning. I think that is funny especially when I thought my feet would be crippled from going that far first day out.

I am picking up a new Fitbit tomorrow so I can return and keep track of my steps and join in the monthly step challenge. I have always loved this team and it's members who I find to be very supportive and friendly.

My goal for the next two months is to complete about 15-20 miles or 70,000 steps per week to start and gradually build up to a greater distance (which I love) I don't want to chance harming my feet especially when they are just starting to feel less pain now. So baby steps for now until I can build up my stamina.

I look forward to once again share with you. emoticon emoticon

Hi all. My name is Robin. I have been on Sparkpeople off and on for years. I however keep giving up or get to distracted to follow through. I have tried sooo many diets and programs. This time I am just doing cicadian rhythm (13hr) Intermittent fasting. I'm trying not to count calories or ban myself from anything but being more mindful of what I'm eating. I have been folowing the Skinytaste menus and have not had a dish I didn't like yet. What makes this time different is that I have both my husband and one of my daughters helping me by joining me. All have enjoyed the meals and arent trying to tempt me with fast food. This may actually help our wallet by not eating out so much. We bought a treadmill so we have no excuse not to go to the gym becausse it is here at home. Now I just need to find the time. I am moving more than yesterday but still not up to the 10000 steps I want to be at least not consistently.

Hi .. my name is Sally .. and I'm from Wisconsin .. :)

I used to love walking when I worked (HAPPILY retired now) and when I finished I could solve the problems of the world ... Walking was my choice of exercise to de-stress .. Unfortunately, as the years went on Plantar Faciatis (sp?) and menopause weight gain have shown their vicious heads .. lol .. .. Well -- it's kind of funny .. The best solution to plantar faciaitis (I'll get the spelling sooner or later.... lol) is to loose weight .. and well .. my favorite exercise is walking .. What's wrong with this picture .. lol lol . ???

Okay -- So -- I've figured out a way to work around the sore feet (see .. told you I'd get it ... emoticon lol) and have started by giving myself a goal of 10000 steps a day .. (so far I'm successful) .. but I have tried to find a walking group in my neighborhood, but unfortunately .. they work .. *sigh* so I'm looking for "Steppin' support" .. While I do get it elsewhere .. I was looking for a stepping support page, or I was going to start one .. Thank you for being here !!!! lol ..

I will stop talking now .. (promises are meant to be broken .. lol) and I've looked through your threads and am excited to join .. Please accept my membership, and look forward to meeting more of you !!! Thank you !!!

emoticon Hi everyone, I'm MJ. I hail from the Gaspereau Valley in Nova Scotia, Canada. Walking is my favourite exercise and in 2019 I will have completed over 3000 miles, much of it done in my rural neighbourhood.
I am 72 years young, Grammy of two and mom of two adult children and a wonderful DIL. Gardening is a passion, also reading and searching out new vegan dishes to prepare. 2020 will see a big change in my life as I move to Fisherman's Cove in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; a smaller house and property and closer proximity to my son and DIL in Halifax and by air to Scotland to visit with my daughter. emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm Gill and I live in the UK.

I was looking for a new team that has daily posts - things to keep me motivated. This looks like a good match for me! I have a Garmin fitness tracker and aim for my 10k steps a day. It's easy to do when I'm at work, but takes more thought when I'm at home.

I'm 65 on 30th November, and am working full-time. I'll keep going for another couple of years before I retire. I can see how easy it is to become sedentary when there are no 'reasons' to go and and move!

I also like the look of your daily gratitude thread - things like that that help me to stay focused on healthy habits.

Lots of flowers here for a lot of the year. It is very dry though now, it was a very hot summer. The Mediterranean climate is a strange climate. My favorite thing is rosemary, thyme, sage, etc all grow wild in the countryside around us. So when you walk through it, it smells like roasting chicken.

Hi everyone. I’m a step counter, but I try for 7000 a day and get up to 16000 depending. I have recently injured my foot, so have cut back. And I’m getting used to new insoles from the podiatrist.
I live in France, in a city that is mostly pedestrian, so there is a lot of opportunity to walk.

Hi! I'm Debbie and I live in Texas. I have pushed my walking up to 5 days a week and I rest on the weekends. I suffer from arthritis really bad...the perils of getting old. I am a traumatic brain injury survivor and I struggle with it multiple times a day. My Fitbit Blaze has been a real eye opener regarding how little steps I was actually getting in the course of the day.

I am new to the team but not to Spark. Looking forward to interacting with you all! Sunday is my rest day. I basically get most of my steps in chasing around four year olds in the Sunday School class I teach with my dad and son. All that to say, I usually do not hit the target of 10K on that day but today is Monday so I am determined. I hope you all have a blessed New Year! Just Joined - Haven't been active on SparkPeople for a few years, getting back into it as I really need to motivation/support. So far have walked 10,000+ steps everyday this week, and plan on keeping up with it.

Greetings team. You can call me Bev or Grammy. I am a retired church secretary and bible college registrar, but DH is still working. We have 2 sons, lovely daughters-in-law and 4 grandkids: 21, 17, 9, 7 y/o. I currently live in the SF Bay Area, but am hoping to move to Medford, Oregon eventually. DH & I recently got FitBit Charge 2 and have been motivated to walk. Tonight I searched Spark Teams that would help keep me motivated and found 10K Steps a Day. Perfect! I currently have some health issues. I had 2 surgeries this month and have 2 more surgeries scheduled in the next few weeks. I am super focused on regaining my health as much as possible. Nice to meet you all.

I'm glad to be here, am here mostly because I am struggling to get in at least 10K steps a day. Currently my norm is between 3-5, but at dog events, it can explode to over 12K. Getting at least 10K per day would build a better base (and maybe leave me not quite so tired!) for all the things I want to do.

I am going to camp, so I will be getting (probably) 10K steps in or more per day, but won't be on sparkpeople very much. But we'll see! Fun to be here!

I used to be a member of this team - until I got busy tending to my ailing hubby and counting steps became depressing because I became housebound with him. Being housebound with hubby was not depressing - just logging no steps was.

Anyway, I lost my Ray in May and am getting back into my daily walking with my new companion, Bubba, a 29 lb Boston Terrier that needed a home.
God Blessed me with Bubba when he called my Ray back home at the ripe old age of 96 yrs 8 mos.

The reasons to be back are sad - but I am glad to be back on the team again.

Hi I'm Tina from MN. I started this week attempting to start doing 10K each day with a Joe Cross challenge on FB. So far I've done 2 days since Monday. Tuesday was not a good day but that's way better than I have been doing! I plan on getting there today too. I've been on Sparks for almost a year now, 2 more weeks! Been away for awhile, but I am back now. I have been utilizing SP consistently since Aug 1st. I started with the "Find 10" challenge to build on consistency. hi there! i'm new to the team - i've been a fitbit fan since december 2012, on spark actively since march 2012 (first joined 2009). my goal is to average 15,000 steps daily, with 10,000 as the minimum for busy days. we hike, jog, and when we are home in the US, we are out with our border collie who loves to make sure we get our steps in.

hello ive been with sparks people for a few years off and on. Would love to make it a goal to reach 10,000 steps a day, sounds easy enough but I have found that it does take some extra time and effort. Yesterday I recommitted to walking more and sitting in front of my computer less. I ended up walking for 61 minutes and dang proud for doing it.

On another note... I ate a take-out meal that was totally full of grease because I was too hungry to just say no. I told dh not to bring that home for me anymore because of all the grease AND I will make sure never to get that hungry again... remembering that I can't "outwalk" my fork. Good luck everyone!
