I have found that I've had to add most of my non-produce/meat foods myself, because the nutrition information isn't close enough to what's listed -- especially since I'm not in the U.S. and the products here are different.

But I've added everything I eat regularly to my "favorites," which makes it much easier to get the info into my tracker.

Once in a while, I go through and edit the list of foods in my favorites, so that I can get rid of stuff I'm not eating as regularly. I can still find it in the search by clicking the box for the section that says something like "search the foods I've entered."

Near the top of your Nutrition page, there's a button called 'Don't show meal plans'.
If you find that your food for the day is totally different than what's on the plan, you can turn the meal plans off.
Then add what you had through the 'Add a food not in my meal plan' button.

You can make your own food grouping in the third tab, consisting of Maple Syrup and oatmeal, and add it with just one click every day.

BTW, if you're having old-fashioned oats, the description is 'Old Fashioned Quaker Oatmeal- Plain' - it took me a long time to find it.

Thanks Mo
That is really helpful. I guess I put in Maple Syrup and got nothing. I'll try again.

Welcome, everyone!!!

Nutrition tracker tips

If you're on one of the plans where Spark gives you the menus, I'm not sure how to do it, because I do all my own stuff... but in general, here are some tips:

When you click on Add A Food, the pop-up window has three tabs - Food Search, Favorites, and Food Groupings.

In Food Search, you can look for anything, and see if it's listed. I did a search for "maple," and a bunch of stuff came up, including Maple Syrup.

If your choice is there, great -- now you click in the dropdown menus near How Much? and choose whatever amount you're eating/you ate.

If it's something you eat often, you might want to click the box that says Add this Food to My Favorites.

If the food you looked for isn't there, or the nutrition information is different from what you've found, then you can add a new food.

Just below the tabs, toward the right, there is a link to Enter a Food Not Listed. Click there, and a pop-up will display that allows you to enter the nutrition information and portion size you want for anything. You do not have to enter a number in every box -- but I do suggest entering for all the nutrition info you do have.

I'll try to post more tips later.

I am just getting around to playing with this site. What a fun site this is! I have not printed out any menus, have been making it up as I go. How do I add a food that isn't in the exchange? For example, I have oatmeal and REAL maple syrup every day for breakfast, but syrup isn't on the list. How do I add it? I am also still nursing my almost 1 year old, so I am not following everything strictly. I did lose some weight this past week, so all is good!

Can't wait to explore the site some more!

I also have been up and down, but now I am at one of my heaviest. Looking forward to a smaller and healthier future. emoticon

Hello all, I also joined during this week, but I started my 'lifestyle' change Oct 24th. This Wed will be 4 weeks!

I started out at 146.0 lbs and am now (as of this a.m.) 138.50 lbs! I have to say I'm very excited about this.

My goal is 125.0 lbs by the end of February (taking into account the holidays, etc).

I have to say I'm pretty happy. I have yet to deny myself anything I want to eat, but am practicing portion control as well as counting calories. I try not to go over/under 1200/cal a day. At 1200 I'll lose around 1.5 lb/week (my first week I lost 4 lb I think my body was in shock!)

I heard going under 1200 cal/day is bad for your health so...

Anyway, started little exercises, since it's going on winter in PA I can't say I'll get outside as much as I'd like.

Patience is going to be my biggest challenge.

Hello everyone! I started spark yesterday. I've already changed my diet 6 months ago (after finding out I had a gallstone while pregnant) and started exercising a week ago, but lacked the support - most people I know don't want or don't need to lose weight or change their habits. I'm a single mom. Have 3 boys (5, 3, 2) and 1 girl (3 mo). I'm hoping this will keep me on track, especially during the holidays! :) Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone :)
I just thought I would say hi and introduce myself. My names Melanie and I live in New Brunswick Canada. I just joined this site yesterday and I'm determinded to shed pounds. I can NEVER stick to anything, but maybe with all the support on this site I might be able to. My plan is to start my diet tomorrow... I hope I can do it :)

If anyone needs someone to talk to or anything don't be afraid to leave a comment on my page. I'll make sure to get back to you as soon as I can. I have a 2month old so my life is hectic, but I always make a little time a day to come online.

Oh, I'm back again after a long hiatus and a 13 lb weight gain (ugh). Last time I notices results rather quickly and burned out. Hopefully not again this time. Will pace myself... :)

Welcome SP class of November 11 - 17 2007!
In this sparkteam you will be able to get in contact with other spark members who joined in the same week as you did and therefore are in the same stage.
You can find support with eachother and make new friends in the progress. Supportive friends are very important while on your new journey to weight loss.

Since all members here are new, three people who are longer on the site will be here as team leaders. We can offer you support and answer your questions.

The names of the leaders are: MOBEAR1071, VPVICKY and myself, UNIFLAME.

So dont be afraid to ask any question you want in the special question and answer forum. We hope Spark will help you to archieve your goals :)
