Hello,

I'm very happy to have found your thread and am excited to be part of this team. I live in eastern North Carolina close to the Atlantic Ocean and am married with two wonderful daughters, one son-in-law, and a bouncy grandson. I am just now recovering from vertigo and have had a very unpleasant experience with it. This is my second bout with it and it seemed to have been worst this time than it was before.

I am looking for a team who is motivating and supporting. I believe I am in the right place. One of my concerns is being able to be accountable for tracking my food. Is there anyone who can offer some suggestions or challenges that can help me with this? Or share what they have tried to be successful at this? I am completely open for your feedback.

I do look forward to our conversations. I love motivating others and sharing encouraging thoughts and inspirations.

SparkCheers.
Diane

Good!!! I was a fairly healthy eater who had issues with emotional eating (which I'm nipping in the bud and have actually become a more healthy eater over time).

I notice you have things like following SPs plan for part of the challenge and I don't actually do that (or feel the need to). Could I modify the points system to fit what I do? (My big thing is eating out of physical hunger only so maybe I could reward myself based on that.)

Hi there I'm Kelly, I'm from Michigan and I live with my two cats and my husband. I love to read, walk and hang out with my family and friends.

I am very motivated by setting new goals for myself on at least a monthly basis and would love to get to know others who are the same.

. My February goals are:

Continuing my 150+ minute a week fitness streak.
Try one new workout video every week.
Drink all my water everyday.
Lose another 3 lbs.

Hi there,

I'm new to this team so thought I would say "hi" - Hi! I'm Judith and live in the UK with my 11 month old puppy called Pickle. I'm in my 40 and looking to lose at least 50 more pounds... well my ticker says just less but I'll see what I think when I get there - that will still make me the thinest I've ever been as an adult.

I love the idea of challenging myself - now to work out what to push myself to do!

Hello all,
It's great to see all you guys still here. I have been going to Weight Watchers and had to pinch some penny's so I'm back. I don't know if you guys have ever checked out the WW website but SP is way better and it's free.

I'm glad to be back. I just hope I can get back in the grove there is no better way to do that than with a group of great people.

I actually emailed Marie the first of the week but didn't have the time to get everything set up until now. I am a payroll person and my busy time of the year has just ended. Yeah W2"s are done...

I'll weigh in the morning and update my stats and start with you guys on Sunday.

Ruth

A little about me ....
My name is Jane and as you can tell from my username I am a grand mother … of 6 beautiful children and mother of 3 … 2 daughters and a son.
I am 53 years old and live in northern New Jersey with my husband of 35 years. My goal is to weigh 150 pounds - a weight I have not seen in decades!

I am no stranger to the weight loss battle ground nor to Spark but, sad to say, I have allowed life's stumbling blocks to get in my way and threw me off course! Well, I am back and more determine than ever to get to my weight goal! These challenges will help me to keep motivated and press on to my goal. I look forward to getting to know you all.

emoticon Jae, I've checked out your page looks like you've been on the roller coaster we all seem to have been on at one time or another.

The next week in the challenge starts on Monday, in order to even out the teams, you'll be on the emoticon team. Fell free to set up page, you can copy it from Pauline' s page I believe she already set hers up for the 3rd week of the challenge. On the team's page just scroll down to Team Forum "Personalized Challenge Thread Forum" and click on the thread "Banana's Weight In and Points".

I hope you'll join us on the "General chit chat about anything and everything" so we can get to know you a little better. Check out the thread " September's Challenge" to find out the details about the challenge. I you have any questions, feel free to ask we'll be happy to help you out. I think you'll find the support you're looking for in this team.

Hi Judy, welcome to our team. Yes, Erika's been a bit crabby cause we've starved her this week. But she'll be better next week. Hopefully the scale will really drop for her otherwise we're in big trouble. LOL! I guess you will be my opponent. I'll see you in the chat thread.

emoticon Judy, it's nice to have you join the team. Hope you'll decide to join this month challenge, jumping right in is the best way. I'll make sure we don't put you on the same team as Erika so we won't be to pushy. This week of starvation made her a bit crabby emoticon but I'm sure her emoticon y personality will be back next week.
Please join us in the chat thread so we can get to know each other.

Good luck in your journey.

Hi Judy!! emoticon It is so nice to have you on our team!

Are you going to join us for the challenge starting on Monday? If so, you might want to post in the chat thread and ask Marie and Pauline what team you are on. There are two teams for this month, bananas and strawberries. And because you are a beginner, they will give you a break on the challenges, so no worries, you can start slow.

emoticon

My goals:
1. Accept and be grateful for my body and my metabolism as they are. No feeling sorry for myself.
2. Veggies and protein at every meal. Fasting 16 hours every 24, when possible due to exercise schedule.
3. Mindful eating. Pay attention to every bite.
4. No guilt when I am unable to stay on plan. When I get off track, get back on ASAP.

Hi Cynthia, welcome to the team! You came to the right place. We'll keep you motivated. Looks like you've done really well. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. We are in the middle of a challenge right now. If you'd like you can do the challenge and start right away. All of the rules are in the August's Challenge. You can post on the Ladybug's thread. We won't count your points until Monday which is when the week starts. It's okay if the teams are uneven since we do an average of everyone's score. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. If you don't want to join in on the challenge you can wait until next month's or you can join in on one of the fitness challenges. Please join us on the chit-chat thread, we're usually all over there talking. Welcome again! emoticon

Hi Challengers!

I have been on SP since mid-April but am new to this team. I am always up for some friendly fun so count me in!

I am a single mom of 2 boys, ages 5 and 4. I work full time in the corporate world of benefits, so I have gained a lot of weight in the past 2.5 years since leaving the kids' father and sitting in a cubicle all day long. I seriously barely got up from my desk, even to go to the bathroom because back then I NEVER drank water...aside from that which was made in my sweet teas! Now all I drink is water and my nickname should be "runner" because I go to the restroom every 20-30 minutes!

emoticon

Okay...too much info for a 1st introduction, but my point is this: my kids are getting older and more self sufficient, leaving me time to focus on me. What a surprise when I actually took that time and realized I had gained 25 pounds!!

So here I am, ready to make some changes, mentally, emotionally, physically...for both my benefit as well as for my kids. I want to make sure I am around long enough to drive them crazy when they become adults themselves, HA HA, just kidding.

But I do want to live a healthier life and teach my children the importance of these healthy habits while they are still young so that they can take it with them when they leave the nest too.

Well, please visit my page and add me as a friend and leave a comment! I want to get to know all of you!

Check out my thread in the "Personalized Challenges" section too! It is called "A new and fun challenge, start Monday, June 30th" but it is not showing up on the main team page because the 1st three topics are 'sticky topics'...should the April and May challenges be sticky topics?

Hello Becky & everyone! I found youuuu. heehee. Actually, Becky, the second way you told me to find you, although the explanation "sounded" complicated, was much easier. I didn't know it was part of a Sparkteam.

Ok now for the rest of ya. I'm Jennifer - 48...I think...yes...still 48..whew. Have 3 kids, 2/3 grown. 3 grandchildren as of last Sunday - my newest granddaughter was born. I'm still married - reasonably happily--ha-- for the last 19 years. We're self employed - pushing our way through a midlife career change. From carpet cleaning to insurance agency. And I have 3 dogs - I that's all I'm adopting - I mean it! heehee (little story behind that one - yes if you need a home for a dog take it to Jennifer's house. If it's a cat, take it to my daughter Vanessa's house)

I first got to my goal weight here waaaaay back in November 2005. Then bounced back up & hit a new high recently (since that time only) of 173. Grrrrr. Now back down to 170 & plugging away at it.

Glad to be here. Jenn

Hi Alisa, so nice to see you over here. Welcome! You'll love it here. Everyone is so supportive. And the challenges are really motivating. It's a great time to start because a new challenge is starting in March and it's going to be relatively easy this time. You'll pick one goal you want to do and if you don't do it, there will be a consequence. You'll pick your own consequence. Like, I think I'm going to pick calorie limits as my goal then if I don't do it I'll pick 10 min extra on the treadmill or something to couteract having too much calories. Do you know what I mean? Your goal could be anything. Then there will also be a team goal added for weeks 2 & 4. We're thinking somewhere along the lines of limiting sugar snacks. Is that too much information?

Did you see Cathe's STS information? I'm really excited about it. I think I'll really advance with those workouts.

I don't get email notifications anymore, so I didn't know that you posted. I just saw it.

Welcome Alisa! The challenges we have here have really helped me to stay on track during a difficult period in my life (sickness, death, horrible weather, sadness). I haven't always been successful in my actions, but this team has helped get back on track each time I slip.

Hi! My name is Alisa and I've been at SP since Jan 05 (I think). I'm looking for a good supportive team in my journey to getting healthy and fit. I would like to lose about 20 pounds but it takes all I have to get off an ounce! I use Cathe DVD's and am currently doing a Body for Life rotation for four weeks or so. I get bored easily so I have to change things up often. Hoping to find encouragement and ideas here and return the favor to each of you!

Alisa

Welcome Rena! Your weight loss journey is amazing! I hope you will join some of the challenges here. They are all good, but my 2 favorites are the "60 min. of exercise 6 days a week" and the monthly "Personalized Challenge". Take a look around, and don't be afraid to join in the fun :-)

Hi everyone. My name is Rena, I have been married for almost 12 years and am now a widow, I have 2 sons aged 12-14 years. I have always been overweight most of my life and have actually never known what it will say to be average or thin. I had a heavy depression when my husbands health deteriorated and we found out our youngest son had a small brain damage from being 16 days over time from birth. I have lost 176lbs, but I would like to join your challenges and get to know you. One thing is lossing the weight, but another is to keep challenging ones self to keep it off.

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

Hello, my name is debbie, I am 52yo and looking for a challenge for the New year.. I posted over on the team leaders board and received a invitation to join you so here I am. I like that this team isn't so big in numbers, it makes it easier to get to know each other.

Have a great weekend, debbie emoticon

Welcome Erica, we have another Erika with a k on board! Yes, jump right in and if you have any questions, I think there's a question thread. LOL! But we all post every day usually, if we can, on the chit chat thread. The Christmas challenge is just prediction of what you think you can loose by Christmas and then we just weigh in every Sunday. The fitness challenges are really just posting what you did for exercise each day and doing the amount of ex that the thread says, such as 60 min 6 day. The Burn A pound, 3/4 of a pound or 1/2 pound per week is a challenge to burn that amount of calories. We start on Sunday. For example, I usually try for 3/4 of a pound with is 2625 calories. I put my exercise in on the fitness page, cardio and then tally up the burn each day to ultimately burn the amount you predict. I was on a plateau for many months until I started the Burn a Pound thread and walla, I came off that plateau and started to loose again. Anyway that's a lot of info. Welcome again!

The personalized challenges usually start at the beginning of a month and go for 4 weeks. They kind of change each month. There will be another starting in January and it will be a tough one. Just to make up for any gain that people have had from the holidays. You'll pick 4 goals that you would like to achieve, they must be attainable every day. But you may have a free day here and there. We'll explain more when we get closer but be thinking of 4 things you'd like to achieve every day.

Welcome Erika! I like this team a lot. I participate in 2 of the "challenges" on this team. First is the 60 minute 6x a week. That one is just where I report my doings, and is not much of a challenge per se (for me).

The other challenge that I LOVE is the personalized challenges that they have had every month (as long as I've been here, which hasn't been all that long). They really help keep me in line with the calories.

I hope that there will be a challenge in January (hint hint). Welcome aboard!

Hello everyone! I'm Erica, 23, married for 5 years, just graduated from college. I'm also a vol. fire fighter. I've been on Spark since February and while I have definitely become healthier since then, I haven't done a whole lot to achieve my weight loss goals. I really feel like having a place to post my goals and people to keep me accountable (as well as to hold others accountable) is exactly what I need in order to jump start myself back into goal achievement mode.

I found this team through Lady_Donkey...by the way. I saw it on her page and thought, "hey!"

So here I am, a week before Christmas and two before New Year's ready to start.

Hello

I'm very happy to have found your thread (thanks Pauline!) and excited to be part of this team. I'm from Costa Rica, living in Costa Rica. Been married for 30 years, 3 grown up children, an EFL teacher (don't count on my 'good' English, though), trying to lose my last 6 lbs. Was 143 lbs in May. I'm new here at Spark People.

Cheers, Patricia

Hi everyone. I would like to quickly introduce myself. My name is Sherry, I have been married for almost 15 years, I have 5 daughters ranging in age from 13-4 years old. I have always used the excuse of either being pregnant or nursing, but my baby is turning 4 in a few weeks and it is time to get this weight off. I have about 35 pounds to lose. I would love to join your challenges and get to know you.

Hey there, emoticon to the team. I've notice you joined the BAPAW challenge it a tough one but very rewarding I lost most of my weight using that challenge. You might be interested in joining the Be accountable.... one also I seen on your SP page that your biggest problem seem to be what goes into your mouth, it might help you until we start the next personnalized challenge. We'd love to get your input on that one

Good luck

Hello, I hope it is ok that I introduce myself here on this thread. I love using the elliptical and I've started running (outdoors, but sometimes on the treadmill). I've also increased the weights I'm using in weight training. I am looking to challenge myself (duh!) and keep myself accountable. Especially with the holidays coming along...

Hi Brittany and Judy,

Welcome to the team!! Great that you are here--congratulations on making the decision to take charge of your health. Most of the posting on this team happens on the "General Chat" thread. We also have several threads where we track our challenges. The current one is called "Be accountable for what you eat" and you post every day your totals of calories, protein, fat, etc. If you have any questions, just let us know! You'll probably get the fastest response posting over in the General Chat thread.

My goals:

Welcome Ingrid! Las Vegas, huh? Sounds exciting. Well this is the place to loose weight. There's so much support and motivation, like Marie said. I broke my plateau with the "Burn A Pound A Week" thread. It's pretty difficult to do but I managed to do it after a few week's try. Now I find it hard to keep up that level of exercise indefinitely, but I may go back to it here and there to boost my weight loss. Anyway, Sparkpeople is a great tool and there's much to do around the site. Good luck and Welcome again! emoticon emoticon

Hi,

My name is Ingrid and I live in Las Vegas. I lost 7 lbs in 3 weeks or so, but the past couple of weeks it's been a standstill. I'm a lifetime memeber of Weight Watchers but it's hard to find time to go to their meetings. I was convinced by Erika to join your team so I'll se how this works. I'm currently at 167 and want to come down to 150 (my weight before having a child was 140, but I don't think I can get down to that anymore....) I'm tall so my BMI is within the healthy range, but I'm not sure I trust that BMI measure. I have a narrow bone frame and BMI counting doesn't take that into facts. I do have LOTS of extra fat that needs to go away. I want to fit into my old clothes. Hated it when I realized I have to buy a size 12 in pants.

Anyway, I'll try SparkPeople for awhile and see how it works for me. Haven't quite been able to figure everything out yet.

Hi everyone, welcome to the new people. I didn't realize there was so much going on over here. I didn't get any notifications. emoticon again and good luck with your challenges!

I'm Pauline and I live in southeastern Massachusetts. I've been on Sparkpeople for over 3 years, I think. It's grown so much. One day I got on the scale and it said 170 and I said there is no way. So I looked for some way to count calories and that is how I found Sparkpeople. It took about a year and I went down to 143. That was my lowest. I started to gain it back, little by little. I love food. I love to exercise too. So I probably will have to watch it for the rest of my life. I went to 160 and started to loose again. I was stuck around the 150's for 6 or more months. Then I found the "Burn A Pound A Week thread that Marie had created. I increased my exercise and started to loose again. Now I'm cleaning up my diet with the new "personalized" challenges. I went "NO SUGAR" for the first time, that I can remember, on the last challenge. Wow, I didn't think I could do it. But it wasn't so hard. I can have very good tasting food, just not every day and not in large quantities. Now that is something that I can live with.

Good luck everyone, and if I can help anyone in any way, I would really love to. So many people have helped me.

emoticon

Carmen go to your start page, on the left hand side you'll see "My goals" The last lime on mine says "Burn 3500 calories per week" yours should read a different amount of cal Click on change on cardio set up enter the days you exercise then how many minutes per day then if you have an idea of how many cal you burn in a week enter the amount in the space provided for it on the next line it's more accurate for SP to figure the cal you'll be alloewd to eat per day if you don't know the approximate amount SP will use the amount of minutes you do cardio per week. It will automaticly change your amount of calorie to consume.

Thanks for the advice. How do I change that so my program reads a different cal range?

Carmen have you entered how much exercise you do in your SP program, your daily allowance for calorie seem to be low. I use to have that amount before and after reading the article from SP "Why calories are King" I went to check what was entered in my program. I'm also in the challenge "Burn A Pound A Week", where you burn 3500 cal through exercise and other activities, when I entered that in my program it brought up my daily allowance intake between "1640-1990" that when I finely broke my plateau. The article said that if you do a lot of exercise you have to increase your daily calorie intake to avoid putting you body in deprivetion mode therefore slowing down your metabolism.

I've added the article to the team links if you want to read it.

emoticon aboard Carmen, I was looking at your exercise page great start! Do you plan to join the personnalized challenge also? Great motivation on that one. You pick 4 goals that you have to meet on a daily bases for a period of 4 weeks. It works with a point system, if you don't meet one of your goal one day you loose a point and so on. Starts at 112 points 4 pointsper days X 28 days.

I'm Amy. I'm 25 and live in Southern Maryland (about 45 minutes south of DC). I've been on here a little over 2 months, and have been doing well. I just lack the motivation to exercise. I'm going to start slow, with the three day challenge, and then maybe go up to five after a month or so of being consistent.

Bummer about the toe Jenny, you can always just mark up hurt on the first day or two then pick up from there if you're toe is still to bad to be able to wear proper shoes.

Good luck, I'll be seen you in the 60min-6 days per week challenge I'm in that one also.

Hi Marie and thanks for the welcome. I want to do the exercise 60 minutes per week challenge. I am already consistent with 3x per week at the gym doing strength training for 30+ minutes. So that'll help on those days but I'll be going from 0-60 on the other days as far as cardio is concerned lol.

I did, however, severely stump (break????) my little toe last wednesday and it has yet to heal or allow me to wear a closed toe shoe. It may be a few more days before I can begin the challenge :(. I am hoping for a full recovery by morning though lol.

Welcome to the team Jenny, I found that the only way I was going to commit to my exercise was while doing a challenge. But it's working, that's all that count right?

Have you decided which one of the challenge you're going to join?

Hi my name is Jenny and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I've been a member of SP for a while and have just recently reached my weight goal, but noticed that I'm still not finished with my journey because now maintenance seems to be as hard or even harder than losing the weight. I've found that I can somehow put back on 9 pounds in 4 days if I'm not careful.

I've gotten very consistent about doing my strength training at the gym 3 days a week but I am terrible about doing any cardio :(, therefore, I'm excited about joining this team and commiting myself to getting on the treadmill and stair climber for a significant period of time each day. I still lack the energy that I could have to get me through each day if I would just be balanced and do the cardio so I'm committing to it here.

Jenny

Ryan I wish you all the luck with the challenge. Just believe in yourself and you can do it. It takes small steps sometimes and you are doing great. Just remember when you fall just pick yourself up and try again. You will do fine though. But don't be too hard on yourself. Even if you lose points just keep going till the end even if you have no points left at least you can say you didn't give up. We are all here to help and support you. Trust me I needed it yesterday and everyone encouraged me on.

Ryan if after your 1st week you decide you would like to do one of the Fitness challenge or have one that is easier to start just let us know we'll make sure to set up something. Ginger is mentionning something about a strength training challenge also. We'll be looking into that also.

Hi Ryan,

So happy you have joined! You are doing great by continuing to get back on that wagon...be kind and loving with yourself, it's a skill I am also working on. Funny how we have to love and accept ourselves as we are, with all our imperfections, before we can really make lasting change...

My goals:
1. Accept and be grateful for my body and my metabolism as they are. No feeling sorry for myself.
2. Veggies and protein at every meal. Fasting 16 hours every 24, when possible due to exercise schedule.
3. Mindful eating. Pay attention to every bite.

Welcome Ryan it's so nice to have you over here. I was wondering about you earlier in the week. Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated. But we are all here to encourage you on and cheer you on on this challenge. You can do it!! You made it a pretty good ways on the last one. As long as you make progress that's what counts. Hi everyone,

My name is Erika and I live in San Diego. I really like to run and did my first marathon earlier this year. I eat healthy food (for the most part), but have trouble with eating the appropriate quantities. I am short so my goal of 125 is actually a bit high, but I would be happy to be there! I was on the previous personalized challenge thread with Ginger, Marie and Pauline, and I have found it extremely helpful to have a "team" and to post my progress every day. SP member since 4/07. Glad to be a member of this new team!

My goals:

Hope your garden is doing well. I only have a small one. I got a late start this year and couldn't put out too much. Hopefully next year I can do a larger one.

You are so close to your goal I'll bet this is just what you are going to need to get you there. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi,

My name is Marjorie and I am from Illinois. I was quite active on the Burn a Pound a Week thread some time ago and loved it. I have been on hiatus from SparkPeople this summer because I am very busy growing a big garden and selling at a Farmer's Market, among other things. I probably won't be posting too much, except on my challenge page. But I'm sending my positive thoughts out to all of you!

I am close to goal and looking forward to the challenges to finally get me there!

Nice to see all the faces, old and new, on this new team. Thanks to Marie and Pauline for starting it.

Hello,

My name is Ruth I live in Vancouver, Wa and I've participated in Burn a Pound a week with Pauline, Marie and Ginger, they are wonderful people with a great spirit for helping others. I've been a member of SP since 1/07 and really need the accountability that the Challenge teams offer me.

I love to ride my bike and I need to do it when the weather allows, so most of my exercise will be from cycling.

Thank you for the invite and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Ruth

My September goal is to log my food, eat healthy, exercise, and to loose at least 1 pound a week.

Hi, I'm Stacey and I am from Wisconsin. I've been on SP for a couple months now. I went to London for six months last year and came back 20 pounds heavier!! With SPs help, I've dropped it all now, plus another 10. I'm quite happy with my weight now, just trying to keep it that way! I love the challenges, they keep me motivated.

My name is Ginger. I am from West Virginia. I have been with SP since January. I have went from 195 to 170 in about 6 months. I have hit plateaus and have gotten really frustrated. I probably would have given up if it hadn't been for the advice and support from everyone here. Pauline is my inspiration. I met her through another challenge while back and she really has kept me motivated along the way.

This is the place were you can tell the rest of the team a little about yourself.

My name is Anne-Marie, I'm from Quebec, Canada. I've been with SP since Sept. 17, 2006. I've reached my goal a while back, went from 148 to 112 in about 8 month. Couldn't have done it without the support of our team leader Pauline and all the other SP members from our previous challenges.

Our 2 previous challenges have been move to this team and 1 more was added. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do.
