Hi,

Hi all,

I asked if it would be a bother before I joined the team, but just to be honest, I don’t live in IL, I live in the south of France. I grew up in IL though, in the suburbs of Chicago. And I went to Urbana for grad school.

I am a returning Spark person and my old teams are inactive. I had a long illness, and now I’m back, with some weight to lose, and interest in tracking everything.

Just trying to get back in the swing of things, I had forgotten how long tracking took everyday, as well as reading a couple of articles.

Yes, I looked it up and you're only about half hour away. It would be nice to meet up sometime. I have the hardest time finding someone to walk with and talk weight-loss with. I am happy for Spark People though and the avenue they give to connect like this.

Hello All,
I am Hazel, from Central Illinois. I have been on and off SparkPeople. I love the support. I am at a point in my life where I want to drop these pounds for good. I have a granddaughter and would love to be able to keep up with her. So much energy at 5 years old. I began two weeks ago:
- trying to get my 8 glasses of water
- on the treadmill for at least 20 minutes (will increase as I progress)
- cut red meat out of my diet
- for lent, I am going to drop red meat & bread. Goal is to be on the treadmill or outside walking at least 5 days a week. I want to donate either to a food pantry or pet shelter. For each day I exercise, I will drop a canned item, dog/cat toy or bag food into a box. At the end of lent, I will make the donation. Motivation for me to keep exercising daily.

Hopefully, with your support, the pounds that I've been trying to drop for years will finally fall off. I would love to find someone nearby to walk with. If anyone is near Troy, please email me.

Hi I'm Nancy 54 years old from Elgin, Illinois been on and off SP but I love the support I get here. I started my journey 1-2-2018 weighing in at 176.4lbs down now to 165.4 my goal is 135 by July or sooner. I'm keeping it healthy keep it positive. I work at a desk job so I use my lunch to get some walking in, I measure, weigh and log what I eat. Still struggle with drinking water. I have a treadmill that I use for walking not as a catch all. I started using my Leslie Sansone DVD to help get my excersing in. I don't have a dog to walk I have three birds. I'm feeling much better this time around. I tried Seattle sutton for a week to get some ideas and I actually tried things I never had before, like asparagus, Brussels sprouts, I liked them. I also have tried say burgers, veggie burgers, love spinach pasta. Well enougj sbout food. More about me. Since i dropped 10lbs i feel less pain in my knees, leggs, back so i know I'm heading in the right direction. I want to wish everyone good luck on your own path to healthiness. Welcome girls! We're glad you decided to join us. Kesiatah, you can do it. Just keep working on those 10 minute walks and before you know it, they'll get longer. Jaemom, I'm also from Central Illinois, about 30 miles north of Peoria. My husband has had type 2 diabetes for years and so far he's managed to stay off of insulin. We are starting to get more serious about his diet and exercise (which means I'm starting to get more) as the diabetes is getting harder to control. Samantha and Chamilton77, welcome to you also. Hi all. I'm from Chicago. I have a son, a dog, a cat, I have a lot of weight to lose, bad knees and a bad lower back. On good days I can push myself to walk for half an hour,. On bad days it takes me several short sessions to get that 10 minute daily minimum I make myself get. I miss going to the museums and walking around for hours looking at everything. Being able to do that again, even if I need to sit for a bit every hour or so is something I am working toward. I know I could rent a chair and go now, but right now having this as a goal gives me something that I really want to work toward.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Hi,
I just joined the Spark Illinois Team. I'm from the far north Antioch area. Stone's throw away from Wisconsin. :) I'm hoping to get some motivation. I would like to lose 50 lbs. My workout buddy neighbor moved away in August. We used to walk 3 miles together every morning at 5 a.m. before work. I lost 15 lbs., but gained it back again and then some. Once the weather breaks, I would like to start that again. I'm going to get an indoor elliptical machine as I don't have a gym membership anymore.

Hi! My name is Anita, I am from Freeburg. I have been on Spark several times. This time since January. My husband has some very serious health issues, so we have to change our lifestyle. I ride a stationery recumbent bike, which is what the Dr suggested. Some days with working, it gets a little hard to get it done. I used to be on this site before I had a kid. Well. During my pregnancy I did alot of exercising as well as afterwards. Given I had to take it easy a couple weeks right after I had my boy, but I lost weight quick. Then I went into a deep depression after a fallout in family and my new surroundings and rules that my own parents should have taught me and just stopped caring about literally everything except my kids. I still have alot of anxiety but I'm hoping by rejoining spark I can have motivation for a better lifestyle. emoticon

Good afternoon! I've been away from Sparkpeople for a while now. My scale and fit of my clothes have been reminding me that I need to get back here. There has been some work stress, home stress, college-shopping stress, and financial stress going on, so it's time to make some changes where I can. This is one of them!

My name is Kelli and I live in Northern Illinois (near the WI border) with my husband and three kids (almost 18 yrs, 13 years and almost 12 yrs).

I'm starting again with the small changes and look forward to stopping in here frequently.

Hi, I'm Charie (pronounced cherry), an RN in hematology oncology/bone marrow transplant, work night shift which is so hard on the metabolism. I'm 65 so only work 2-12 hour shifts, while visions of retirement dance in my head. I have 2 grown sons who live with me, 2 cats and a dog, in a small house. I LOVE to garden, kayak, and bike, but haven't been doing as much because the fat caught up with me and slows me down. So, I'm back here on Spark to LOSE!!! I joined in 2008 and lost a lot but gained it all back.

My name is nikki, just recently joined sp and would love to maybe even meet local people to go to the gym with. I currently go to golds gym express in bloomington il. Finding a local group I think will be amazing and much needed for encouragement and possibly ly dome great friendships. I have about 60 to 70 pounds to loose to be back down to my high school Weight of 130. I have 5 kids and a great husband. I have made some big steps in the right direction, like drinking only water, going to the gym almost everyday, and only bought healthy food when I went grocery shopping. For me it's an all or nothing kind of thing, so extreme was my only way. I also have the trainer planning my workout for the month. Now all I need is support and possibly someone that goes to the same gym that would like a workout buddy :)

Welcome Haley glad you have joined the group. Good luck and be sure to look around the website it has a lot of good resources. Just a thought, can you get off the bus one stop early to get in some additional walking?

If you go to the "Fitness" section on this site, they have a lot of different exercises listed, along with videos on how to do them, that can help you with that area. My middle section is one of my bad areas also. Seems like the older I get, the worse it gets!! emoticon

I am new to this group. It is hard for me to get the exercise that I need. I have gained over 20 pounds since I retired to take care of my husband. He can not help me since he has dementia and can not be left alone. I use a glider and get 2 miles a day on it. I live in west central Illinois and in the country where we are very isolated. I get out only when I need to get things or have Dr. appointments for my husband. Have no support system out here and most of my friends have deserted me since I have chosen to keep my husband at home as long as I can. I am using The Daniel Plan to learn how to eat right. I am addicted to sweets and junk food. Could eat pizza every day of the week. Looking for all the help that I can get.

Hello! I'm Stef and I'm looking to lose 100lbs this year. I've lost 160 in the past and need to lose that 100 again! I'm getting married April of 2016 and I want to have all the weight back off before I start dress shopping.

I'm really looking for a support system to help keep me on track and to keep me accountable! I've done well so far of starting to eat more healthy again and go to the gym. Though in the harsh winter months I'm finding getting sick and just the bitter cold is making it hard to get to the gym and keep going. I certainly do not want to use winter as an excuse though for bad eating and not meeting my goals!

Hello, I am 43, single mother of a 21 year old son.

This will be my fourth time needing to lose 100+ lbs. I do really well when I decide to lose, eat healthy foods, 100 oz of water, exercise. I have made it to my healthy weight 3 times, and 3 times I have gained it back. Hoping this is the last time.

Currently I'm doing the Mediterranean diet, drinking 100 oz of water a day and doing Physical Therapy 3 times a week.

I know that because of my neck injury I will not be able to exercise as much as I once did. I figure it will take up to 2 years to make it to my goal.

Damion, even a few exercises at home or at the motel will help. A few here and there will lead to more, before you know it, you'll be moving in the right direction. Just take it one step at a time, one day at a time. When I first started walking, I could only walk 5 minutes at a time (I have COPD). I thought that was ridiculous, that couldn't possibly do anything. But every week I added another minute, and now I'm walking 4 miles at a time. NEVER thought I would be able to do that. But I took it one day at a time, and look what happened. It's emoticon

I imagine it does get old, FAST!! I don't like being away from home for too long. It's always nice to visit somewhere else, but I too am ready to go home after a couple of days. emoticon

Guess some people are just not meant to travel, I'm one of them!!
Hope things calm down for you and you're able to get some exercise in. It always makes me feel better after I have exercised.

Hey Zany. I'm doing good. Cheer season is now over and I can breathe again.... for a bit. Trip was actually cancelled due to funding issues (good old government budgeting issues), but instead was put in charge of a few reports and had to do some online courses. Hoping tomorrow I can get back in the gym because I'm starting to feel like a fat slob.
While traveling has slowed down, I do travel quite a bit. It gets old fast. Usually after a couple days I'm ready to go home. When I'm gone for a couple weeks I become really cranky and lock myself in my room.

Thanks! I'm just trying to use it as motivation to keep at it. I'm living in hotels starting tomorrow through Tuesday. Tomorrow starts the state cheerleading championship and then Sunday I have to travel to MN for work. Hoping I can still get workouts in.

Hello everyone. I'm Damion from McHenry. I am currently on the roller coaster of weight loss. Ups and downs. Currently I was down 19 pounds but have put 3 back on since Thanksgiving. I stay pretty active between being in the Army, drumming in 2 different bands and coaching my daughter's competitive cheer team. But my eating habbits can go from great to WTF did you just devour quickly. Tired of being the fat guy behind the drums, want to look good in my uniform, tired of hearing, "look how thin you were"!

Hi Everyone, I'm from Frankfort. I joined Spark about six months ago, got derailed due to some illness and minor surgery and plain laziness. My DH and I took a delayed honeymoon to Hawaii and I had my photo taken ( I never have my photo taken) and was horrified. I knew the scale said I had gained back the 70 pounds I had lost five years ago due to that wonderful menopause time of life and life stress. So I am back and motivated, went back to the gym this week and not grazing. My goal besides using weight is to be able to hike up to Diamond head again without thinking I was going to die. I made it, it took me a long time, I didn't die, but it was a changing moment for me. I don't want to be the huffing and puffing and having to rest old lady. I don't want another woman from Brazil to call me fat. ( yes that happened.) So hold my hand, wish me luck and LETS DO THIS!

They don't have meetings about rainbows.
