Hi everyone,

I'm Gail & I've been on SP for years (off/on). I'm still trying & have recently gotten a burst of motivation....so we're back on plan. I'm over 300 lbs, so it's difficult for me to exercise, so I try & concentrate on diet instead. I've had luck doing Atkins/South Beach low carb diets in the past, so I'm using that to jump start my diet this time. I'm also going to add in a bit of weight training & stretching to start out.

Gail & Speedy...
with Jake, Duncan, Teddy, Muggy at the Bridge & always in my heart.

Hi,

I am not new but restarted using the tools I have.

I am 45 will be 46 this summer. Have two awesome kids.
1) 13 year old boy with autism
2) almost 10 year old who is an 👏 kid. She loves to cook and bake. Usually kicks me out of kitchen.

I am married. October 17, 1998 19 years and going great

I lost myself for awhile. Totally focus on my kids. Had to quit job because of son and his issues. I found part time job that lets me get out of house while kids are in school and home when they are.

Hi Everyone,

I'm 43, work from home and have a 7 yo daughter. I joined Sparkpeople two years ago and have been active in the group mostly during the summer months. Every time I become active in this group and in tracking my calories I go down 10-20 pounds. Then I go off track and forget about weight management. And the weight comes back on again. In mid-June I hit a high of 202. For the past six weeks I've been working hard and am down 13 pounds. Am now at 189. I'm getting ready to go on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks to Germany (my husband is German). Last summer I gained 5-6 pounds on vacation (all that good German beer, bread, chocolate, etc). This year I'm determined to actually lose some weight during vacation and keep on track through the fall. I'm feeling very determined. And frustrated that I've been yo yoing at the same heavy weight for the past 7 years. I've looked at some 5k races in my area this fall. I'd like to get down another 10 pounds by the fall and perhaps actually do a run. I also want to join a zumba class when my daughter goes back to school in the fall. For now most of my activity and healthy living revolves around hard core gardening and yard work. I've been able to grow half of our family's food this summer. This has been great for my diet. Growing tons of lettuce, cucumber, kale, carrots, berries, radishes, tomatoes, squash, etc. These veggies are going into salads and into juicing. Looking for weight loss buddies and in general for a community space that will keep me actively inspired. Good luck to everyone. Our bodies / our weight loss is a matter of will power and something that's within our own grasp.

Hello all. My name is Brenda; I live in Virginia; I have a son and three step-daughters; and my stellar husband used to be a professional chef (the struggle is real!).

I joined SP on June 25 and have committed to a healthy lifestyle instead of a "diet." I have 20 pounds that I have repeatedly lost and regained for 20 years. At 46, it's time to change the story. Right? :)

Hi all. Thought I would join this group even though I am not quite 40. Turn 40 this July. My starting weight was 207 in November 2014 when I joined Weight Watchers. I lost some weight on WW but realized that SP has it all and is so much better and free. This weekend I weighed in and it was 188,5! So thrilled that it is almost 20 lbs and in 4 months! So I am giving Spark my all and even added exercise this week. I have 2 daughters who are almost 10 and almost 7. I love them very much. I'm divorced and a noncustodial mom. I also suffer with depression which is now in remission.

I am brand spanking new to this. at my heaviest, I weighed 249. my daughter, who is now 18, saw "fat videos" (that's what I call them), she looked at me and thanked me for losing weight. I am now safely at 195 and have been for at least five years, but I'm stuck at this weight. my daughter wants to lose weight so one of her providers suggested this for her and I figured why not? we can do it together. so here I am. newly single out of an abusive 14 year relationship with my special needs daughter. life has always been busy with one job that is very flexible since she was 3 years old. thank you to my agency. another job that is keeping my position just for the summers which is unheard of till now. okay! done now! everyone have a FANTABULOUS day!!!

Hello Everyone.

I'm returning to SP after a relatively long hiatus. I have reached my highest weight ever, and just turned 40. If there is a time to change it is now. I hope this forum welcomes me and we can give eachother support and ideas.

Thanks for reading.

That is a good healthy first step. I hope that you have that down pat now. I have learned that you can still have certain things, but portion control and eating them in moderation is key. As for the exercise, just take small steps. It is recommended to start out with 10 minute increments of time. Then gradually build on. Or do multiple ten minutes burst of excerise through out the day. I have gotten the Sparkpeople dvd's and love them. I pull them out every once in awhile when I am short on time or just need a change in my workout plan. You sound like you have some great thoughts of starting out small and slowly building up on it. You will get there.
I am doing good. I came home to visit my family this week. So my sister and I have went for two walks so far. Plus I have used the treadmill at my parents. Just not getting in my 60 minutes of excerise a day though. But I am happy with the change of doing 45 minutes instead. I weighed myself yesterday morning, I lost .80 of a pound from last week. So I was happy with that since it makes 27 pounds since May 3rd. It is also nice to know that they have gotten into the healthy eating habits too. So I know I shouldn't gain weight well I am home. It is nice to just get a way for a few days and relax. I really haven't been able to do much of that since my husband passed away.
Well I better close for now. It has been a long day. I have been waking up around 6 or 6:30 here lately. My body must be getting me ready to go back to school teaching in a few weeks. LOL Atleast I will be adjusted to getting up in the mornings again and getting ready to go to work. One thing I did find that helps is if I get up a little earlier and workout in the morning. It is like I schedule it as Kerry workout time and know that I have to do it like going to a doctor's appointment.
I hope you are having a wonderful week!

Kerry

Alright so far. I'm focused on eating healthy which is my first step. When the kids start school next week I will add focusing on exercise. It's just hard to figure in where to do all these things because of how hectic life is being caregiver to so many folks outside our immediate family and taking care if the homestead - small though it is. I think I need to change my exercise focus to start with and get in a habit of just 2-3 times a week due to said schedule. That might make it easier instead of stressing me out which isn't helping anything :-/
How about you? How has it been going recently?

Your welcome!
Yes it is something that I struggled with most of my adult life. So he would be my biggest cheerleader. But I would get busy with life and let go of my healthier eating habits and working out. I would slip back into my old bad habits. He would say things like I knew you couldn't do or that you would give up. But now I realize he wasn't doing it to be mean. It was his way of trying to encourage me to push myself. So I want to prove him wrong this time. emoticon
How is your journey going so far? I hope great!

Welcome EOCROSSFITMOM! emoticon
It is great that your husband is joining you in your lifestyle changing journey. I think that is so awesome! My husband was doing the same thing with me, since May. But unfortunately, he only got to support me up until June 19th. I found him dead in his sleep the morning of the 20th. But I haven't let the stop me from my ultimate goal of being healthy and fit. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate taking care of everyone in your family and your best friend. They are very lucky people to have you take care of them. It takes a very special person to be a caregiver! It is great that you are taking care of your health, so you can be around longer for them. I am sure that you will go far on your weight loss journey! Hope to get to know you more over the next couple of weeks.

Hello all, I just recently turned 40 :) I am battling auto-immune and food allergy issues making losing weight difficult - not impossible, just difficult to find that perfect combo. Anyway, I'm in the 170's and would like to make it into the 120's. For the first time though, hubby is joining me in this health journey. We are juicing, making smoothies, and back to eating salads before our evening meal. Now when we go anywhere hubby is asking me if certain things are fattening and stuff which is cute :) We also grow a large garden so it's great to get a lot of our organic produce right from our back yard! I do crossfit at home plus some walking with the grandbaby, in a backpack carrier, whom I babysit 3-4 times a week depending on dil's school class/clinical schedule.

We have a lot going on in our lives right now so I doubt I'll be posting much but sometimes I have a few days where I get to post a lot every so often. In short, my mom (60) has breast cancer so I am the caregiver and support system for her and my dad, my dad (67) has on-going issues from a botched surgery, my fil (71) is in ICU with trench foot which cannot be operated on because he only has 1/3 of a working heart, my mil (84) had a heart attack last month so can not really care for fil anymore but pushes herself to do so, thus we are 1/3 of their caregiving team, and I'm the responsible party for my best friend (40), since kindergarten, who is in a nursing home due to an aneurysm last year so I arrange and take her to all of her doctor's appointments and to her 3 boys' activities and school events. So needless to say I do not have a lot of time to be on the computer!

Hi everyone,
Hope this finds you all well. I have been doing good with my sugar. I have down to the 105-125 mark now. So I hope it stays that way when I go back to the doctor in Sept. I have been busy working out and hanging out with my friends from work. Plus getting ready to go back to school in a month. Hard to believe summer vacation is almost over.
Have a great day everyone!
Later,
Kerry

I think this sounds as if it's a good choice and any help is good . Please feel free to speak and get as much information as you can. I don't know much about diabetes but I don't ignore it. I'm always monitoring my condition too.

Hi, my name is Kerry. I turned 41 in May. I am back on Sparkpeople after being gone for awhile. I just recently was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and lost my DH on June 20th unexpectedly. So I have turned back to Sparkpeople to help me get better emotionally, physically and healthier. I look forward to making new friends here.

Hey, This is a great time in my life and it's not to emotional but glad to have the health forum to expand my fingers and mind as welll as concentrate on my athletic body.We all can learn more about different attitudes and goals to make this the youngest me ever. New intrests are not forth coming and old ones seem to be out of reach but sometimes I'm back to myself. It's a little boring at times and I feel that there is more I could be doing. What an age some how it's like my 20's and 30's with the denials and inactivity and lack of goals to accomplish or have accomplished. All the same life is unreal.

Hi my name is Rhea. I am learning a lot about why I was overweight by using the nutrition and fitness tracker. I'm new here in this group. I am grateful to have found Spark People because now I can start losing weight, and at the same time, knowing how to lose weight, with a little fun in between: I have dance and kickbox work outs, and I love dancing in the park starting this Friday to concerts.

Hi All! emoticon

I've been on SP since January and love it! Great resources and support from so many people! I've lost almost 19lbs since late November (I know, bad time of year for a lifestyle change). lol. Guess I considered it a "challenge accepted" given ALL the temptations that surrounded me. I'm hell-bent on getting as healthy as I can and I want to drop at least 35 more lbs in the process over the next 6 months or so if possible. Seems to be harder the older I getů but i'm just going to stick with it until I'm the best version of me possible.

Hope everyone here is doing well and best of luck on your personal goals!

We got this!

Hi pam,

I just started my team leadership yesterday,I use to be part of this team a while ago and started doing the fb and kinda just gave up on me in a way...Its ok to start again, I have had a few of those, but this has got to be the last one for you and me, I have grand kids and recently was told i had high blood pressure cholesterol and my thyroid is out of wack. Losing weigh is a must for me and i am here to tell you, for you too. We can take this journey together and make it work, from one mom to another we can do this, we will start with some challenges, starting Monday. wat would you like working on?

Rose

God loves you, So why not Love yourself enough to make a change in life for the better, your health...

Good afternoon all! I have been around Spark b4 (twice) - I'm embarassed to admit that. I have tried self determination, deprivation, kicking my own rear end, and just can't seem to find the motivation to make something happen. I was in a local TOPS group about 10-12 years ago & had success. I hit my goal!! Then, life got busy with my daughter (a teenager at the time) and I didn't have the time needed to dedicate to TOPS & made every excuse in the book for letting myself go again. I got bigger than the first time I ever started TOPS! emoticon I started in a new TOPS group 3 years ago with renewed umph & lost 18 lbs in the first year. I even became a division winner for our group! Then, the lazies hit again. I can't seem to convince myself this is a LIFESTYLE change & go right back to the old habits. This past Monday I stepped on the scale in total embarassment. I weighed in 3 lbs HEAVIER than my starting weight in Feb 2011 & I cried. Unbelievable. I have a new grandbaby due in March & I want to be around for him. I want to be active & have fun with this little guy & not be that fat, boring, sedentary grandma that is so out of shape we can't go outside to play on the swingset. So here I go again! I know I can, I know I can!!
emoticon Looking forward to getting to know everyone! Pam

If you hate starting over, STOP QUITTING!

Hi my name is Jen Rose. I am not new to SP but I have been MIA for some time. I need to get back on track and be accountable. I want to work on getting fit not just a smaller size. I lost a lot of weight following my WLS back on 10-3-11. I am more active, but I want to tone everything up. Anyone have any suggestions. I am a FT law school student (60 hours) with four children (19, 19, 16 and 4). I do a lot of pro bono work with and for children, battered women, etc, I need work out suggestions that would be easy to fit in my somewhat crazy schedule.

Help.

I'm Rene, and I am 41. I live in Minnesota. I hope to become a bit more active on the site, so that I hold myself a bit more accountable. This is my second round of sparking, and so far so good. I have started running, but it is slow. I usually run between 3-5 miles a day, 6 days a week. I saw a quote I like. . . " I run slower than a turtle stampeding through peanut butter, but I run!" Have a great week everyone!

Good luck Linda!

My name is Linda from Pennsylvania, I am 48 years old and I guess I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. :) I remember before I had children I was always on the go but life, finances and kids just wears you out. I'm really not overweight, just out of shape and wishing to get my energy back. My girls are helping me right now to quit smoking which has been a huge challenge for me but believe it or not, I actually am feeling a little better about myself. Just wish me luck on this really long road to recovery.

My name is Valarie and I am turning 46 on Monday. I am from Ky and I am a walker, I have lost 56 pounds and I am working toward losing at least that much more.
The year 2013 has been a really bad one for me overall.
Beginning in January, with a broken foot, stress fracture of the metatarsil bone, brought on by too much walking I suppose.
I became depressed and allowed it to set me back. Relationship issues have left me lonely and distraught at times, friends I thought would have my back turned tail and left me. Job ups and downs and even worries over living arrangements. Yes, 2013 wasnt my year.
But I am not giving up, maybe 14 is my number!!!
I had lost 71 lbs, and gained back 13 overall. Again with the 13.
Right now I am still stuck, on the scale and just now getting back into my walking routine.
I am dealing with my personal issues as best I can and just trying to remain focused on good health and eating right.
I know I need to be working harder and I need support.
SP friends have been there for me when it seems my real life friends jumped ship.
This whole year so far has been a detour.
I hope it steers me onto the right path for the upcoming year to get back on the right road and get back to losing and finding myself again.

Hello Everyone. I am re-invigorating my quest for health and am back on the wagon diet and exercise-wise. I am 47 yrs old, male, 5'10", and was into lifting weights and running when younger -- a solid, yet squatty 225 lbs. In my late 30s, I blew a disc in my lower back, and was out of commission. I slowly gained weight to 256 lbs peak before I put a stop to it. I got down significantly on Nutrasystem and then HCG, and after gaining some back, have maintained at 235 for 2 years now. I want to reduce my entire body size, muscle and all, and gain flexibility. I started Ideal Protein in early July, and am losing (10 lbs so far). My goal is to reduce meds, increase endurance for sports, and increase overall quality of life.

Hi! I'm Diane. I joined SP last year, but I'm just now actually using it. Looking forward to the support! I am a pastor's wife in TX. I have 3 grown children, 1 daughter-in-love, 3 grandsons, and a grandchild on the way. Just needing to connect with people who understand the struggle and get some encouragement to succeed where I've always failed.

Hi,

I'm a mom of two children ages 5 and 7 and am looking to lose about ten pounds and feel comfortable in summer clothes. I was a SAHM for the last 7 years and am also looking to get back into the work force and am finding that very difficult. Prior to having children I worked in education and have an interest (and training) in helping children with reading struggles. I just joined SparkPeople yesterday and am feeling very motivated right now. I tried it last year and lost six pounds than stopped tracking my food and gained it back and then some. I realize that my weight loss goal and amount isn't that much, but as everyone knows, losing the last ten pounds can be the hardest.
