Welcome to the team!
I love your Spark People name!
That is so perfect for a biker...

I hear you about the riding outdoors.
I haven't been riding outside either... too much ice, and when there's so much and the road is glaciated, by studs don't grip and I fall.

Off to the wind trainer for me... YUK! emoticon

I am new to the spark, have been riding for a bit. road bike mostly some mt biking as well. It has been a tough winter here in maryland for biking we have had a lot of snow. I have been riding some indoors which makes me crazy. I can ride in the cold but not when the snow ice and salt are all over the road. It will get warmer eventually. Hoping to ride faster this year than last.

Weight does make a huge difference when hill climbing. The hills I struggled up; many time walking when I weighed 210, now seem much easier, and I weigh 181.
I'm looking forward to climbing better too, so just stick with it!

Hey guys, avid mountain biker here but haven't been able to ride much due to the closed trails here in Georgia. Road riding some and trail running/treadmill as an alternative. I also am looking to do another round of P90x probably starting in March. Actually trying to find a way to work in mountain biking in to the p90x routine, sort of a custom routine. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Basically, 2 years ago I was 32 years old ate and drank whatever at 244 lbs and decided that was enough. I am 6'1" . 2 years later I'm at 170 lbs, probably a 10-11% body fat and feeling better than I did when I was 21! Let the good times continue to roll, preferably in the woods.

Hi--I'm Mel

New to Sparkpeople last month and to this team a couple of days ago. Not new to cycling though. After a couple of years off, I got back to riding last year. Happy on the flats--rail trials are my favorites--but hate those hills. Thinking the problem on the hills could be the extra pounds I'm carrying, so goal this year is to get them off.

Look forward to exploring the site, hearing about rides.

Cheers--
Mel

Hi... I'm new to this team but had to join when I saw the name of it!
I love to ride and have several bikes... a mountain bike for summer, a studded tire bike for snow, a touring bike, and a road bike. Although I have a bike with studded tires, I have been putting in a lot of miles on the wind trainer lately waiting for spring. emoticon
I will need to get into good "biking" shape as I will be riding several long rides and tours this summer.

Hi,
My wife an I bought a bikes today and I am going to be biking to work instead of walking to work which allows me to get back and forth faster. I also live down the street from a bike trails so this will be an important part of my fitness activities from now on. I look forward to being part of this team.

Welcome 'back' Jane! What a commendable goal. :) Where I live biking to work would be impossible to my current little position. I do walk to school every day that I'm in school though. I could bike it but it is like 1/4 of a mile to my class from my house and I don't really want to leave my bike sitting outside for even that 50 minute class session that I have in the mornings. If I had a place to put it inside I would do it. Expensive bike + not greatest part of town = no more bike! ;)

Keep pushing forward!

Hi Everyone,
I am a rejoiner to Spark people after being inactive for several years. I love to cycle, and am looking forward to spring so I can get the bike out on the road. I hope to do more commuting to work this year, since there is a new shoulder on our highway for biking now. It is about a 21 mile round trip. As soon as it gets light enough to safely bike, I will be ready! I'm hoping the biking will help me meet my goal of losing 30 pounds.
Jane

Hey Everyone:

I am a new member both on this team and on the entire site. I am not completely new to cycling. I caught the bug last year when I signed up to participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Not sure why I signed up in the first place because I am not sporty at all. But I put my heart into training and fell in love. The freedom and stress relief that cycling brought me is incredable. I finished the 200kms riding strong ... My personal best is that I made it up every hill without getting off my bike!!

I'm participating in the Ride again this year (June) and I'm picking up the training. That's why I'm here! I want to learn from others who LOVE cycling!

Anyway, that's a quick caption about me. I've got more info about why I'm joined Spark on my page. Please visit if you wish!

Hope to get to know you all soon.

Pedal Strong!
Caroline

Hi, I'm Alan. I am a 55 year old who took up running three weeks ago for the first time in 5 years, but will be mixing cycling in come spring then giving up running mid summer. I have a really nice mountain and road bike, but only use the mountain bike now on crappy roads or when I might get my bike wet.

I joined SparkPeople last week, and I am looking forward to the encouragement I have received so far continuing.

Hey, MRSSUZSTAR, I was born and grew up in north Texas, but I have KY Bluegrass stains on my knees now.

So I have 2 home states Texas, where I live for about 15 years and KY where I have lived for 35 years give or take.

Hello! I'm new to SparkPeople (less than a week), but I'm really enjoying exploring all the resources on this site, including this team. :-) After not being on a bike since my teens, I bought a comfort bike about 8 years ago, used it sproadically (I live in a very hilly area, and cycling anywhere but on the one running/biking trail in the area was frustratingly difficult), and then traded it in last summer for a "fitness bike" (which, I learned, is a hybrid that leans a little more toward the road-bike side than a standard hybrid). Hills are still hard work for me, but at least they're in the realm of the possible. I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can get back out, and I'm looking forward to reading the wisdom from you lovely folks!

Hello to all. I am a 60 year old father of two; grandfather of one. I live in western Colorado at ~4700' elevation. I work at a sedentary desk job.
I started my weight loss program in October 2008, starting at 379 pounds. I am 6'6" tall, and currently weigh 266 pounds.
My 'bike' is a Catrike Road recumbent tricycle. During the late spring, summer, and early fall, I commute to & from work by bike, riding about 17 miles per day. I ride recreationally on weekends and completed two century rides last year: one from my home one-way to Moab, UT; and one round trip from my home down US Hwy 50 to a neighboring town and back (designed as a 120-mile ride to celebrate my 60th birthday). I am not sure what my total outdoor mileage was last year, but the iPhone app that I started using a couple of months into my riding season shows a total of 2228 miles for the year.
I choose not to ride outdoors during the winter, and substitute riding a stationary recumbent bike at my local gym each morning before going to work.

I look forward to reading information from others regarding cycling and cycling-related topics.

-Dennis

Hello, I am new to this team, have been a Sparker for a while now. Love to ride my bike, my favorite form of exercise. I rode a bike everyday as a kid and in my 20's did mountain biking, got back into it about a year ago.

I usually ride 20 - 30 miles a week, weather permitting. My 2010 goal is to move it to 50 miles a week.

I had been looking at cycling teams to join for awhile now, but what really helped me in this was the "New to Riding and Over whelmed--help" post. I like how you folks responded to this.

Hi - I joined SP about a month ago and this team today. I'm a 43 year old married father of two, originally from Scotland but for the last 10 years a resident in northern California.

One of my big 2010 goals is a century ride in September: the Best Buddies Challenge from Carmel to Hearst Castle. If anyone else is doing this, I'd love to know. I haven't ridden seriously in many years, but I spent most of my teenage years in the saddle. In those days, 100 mile rides were fairly common and I was competing almost to national level (in the UK) in track and road races.

After I hit my 20's, and discovered the internal combustion engine, all the bikes were sold and I didn't turn a pedal until 1997 when I rode a metric century ride in South Africa. (27000 riders going from/to Cape Town around Table Mountain -- amazing experience)

I'm looking forward to reading and sharing tips and experiences this year as I get back into the swing of things.
Andrew

Hi, I am Gail and I live in Florida. I am a runner with injuries so my doctor suggested trying another sport. I do want to do a Triathlon , so I started biking. I do not have a road bike but do have a comfort bike. Over XMAS my husband and I went to Tarpon Springs and road the Pineallis Bike Trail for 37 miles. Of course we stopped along the way. It was lots of fun. I am excited about cycling and going to join a local cycling group. I am scared of road bikes because of the speed, but hopefully I will get on one.

Hi Theresa! Hope you get more time in with the bike. I wish my bike on the trainer were closer to where I am right now...which is in the family room. That is where the TV is and I would love to be able to be on it while I was doing some stuff on my Wii! ;) Oh well...I will have to make do with things as they are.

Hi all! I'm not new to SP but I'm newer to biking - and we're trying to get into it more ("we" = me and my boyfriend).

In June, I got a new mountain bike from REI (the cheap end of what they carry, but still a good bike). So far I've done mostly road riding.

Hi Team,

I am a newb to not only SP but to biking as well. My goal lose 40lbs (half of my goal) by May so I can race in at least 3 races by the end of the year! :)

If anyone has any links to any races (in the midwest) or triathlons (I have a swimmer and a runner that are competing with me) let me know!

Thanks!

Hi! I'm Laura and I love bike riding on my little hybrid. I commute, do errands, and have fun all over town rides on my bike. But it's winter and too hideously cold outside so I'm waiting impatiently for spring (or milder weather).

My goal this year is to ride faster and for a lot longer on my bike.

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to cycling - my husband is an avid cycler (or, he was until he fell off his bike a few months ago and threw out his back), and I got a new road bike a few weeks before his fall, but I'm looking forward to Springtime and getting back out there again! I have my hopes set on a lot of riding this summer, hopefully culminating with a 200+ mile charity ride with a friend in September! Looking forward to "meeting" you all!

-Claudia
