I start out like gangbusters on a new project but often lose interest. I agree with others that you should break it down into manageable chunks. Just like with weight loss, stay accountable, stay involved, post often and you will have success in both.

Hey TANKGRRRL, Sarah-- (I remember your name from several yrs ago here.)

I HEAR ya!! My advice: stay connected with this team! Keep posting, posting, posting! This is a Writers Support Team AIMED at helping you write your way to the finish, and get over the hurdles & bumps in your writing project along the way. Hop over to the General Team Discussion Forum threads, hop on over to the Daily Writing & Challenges Forum threads--post on them! Challenge & commit to yourself on a daily basis. (Or weekly, or whatever works for you.)

We're here for you, we're all rooting for you! (And ourselves too, I might add.)

If you want more personal support, more one-on-one support, just ask. :) Someone might take you up on it. :) I know that what helped me IMMENSELY one time was when I had someone I emailed to Every Single Day the progress I was making on my writing. She did the same back. I found it Really, Really worked! :) We didn't exchange writings, we just kept in touch with our daily goals, and then our daily progress.

Sierra

The best way I've found to write a novel is one sentence at a time. Anne Lamott, in her book, "Bird By Bird" talks about the importance of understanding that novels come in small pieces... and that first drafts are supposed to be crap. I've taken these lessons to heart, and my writing is doing much better.

I squeeze in time to write whenever I can; a half hour during my lunch break... two hours every Tuesday night with my writing group at Panera... four or five hours on a Saturday at our cabin... or simply five minutes while I'm waiting for the water to boil for noodles. The important thing isn't necessarily how much you're producing; but that you continue to write a little bit each and every day. As your writing becomes more of a habit, you will see your productivity increase.

Writing goals or targets, writing support groups, reading other writer's work, reading books on craft, and workshops will also all help to move your writing forward.

If you're looking for concentrated writing support, check out this site:
www.theidealab.ning.com

This is a network community, much like SparkPeople, with writers of every age, stage and genre, who support and inspire each other. The Idea Lab Network is free to join, and amongst its members, you may find the support and inspiration to vault your writing to the next milestone.

I have found a writing network to be a very nice compliment to my healthy lifestyle changes; for when I stay consistent on SparkPeople, I am making positive choices for my physical well-being... and when I stay consistent at The Idea Lab, I am making positive choices for my emotional well-being through my creativity. The pair work well together and are both helping me to realize all of my goals; physical, intellectual and emotional!!

Good Luck and Happy Writing!

Hi Darlene:
What if we make a pact? Each of us has to write 5 pages by Sunday. Is that doable? That's less than 1 page a day!

Babysteps. . .

I seem to need those same three things you mentioned. Encouragement, accountability and friendship. The only thing stopping me is me too!! Many people don't understand me when I tell them that. I am grateful that you can understand!

I've put off writing for a long, long time. Years!
I have a story to tell and if I don't get going, it will be too late because I'm 72. love, Darlene

Hello everyone. I have been looking for a writing support group for quite some time and hope this does the trick.
Here's a little about me:
Two years ago I was an attorney just starting out. I has published an article while in law school, done well academically, and was popular with the students and administration. All of that changed.
I became ill and now suffer from what has turned into a full-blown disability (I have little control over my bladder and bowels). I really thought that the doctors could fix me, so I began writing a novel. I just knew that during recovery from the next surgery, I would be done with my book and have a new amazing career in front of me. Instead, I almost died from a surgeon's mistake.
I stopped writing. When NaNoWriMo came along, I participated a reached 32,000 words with a brand new book, then I stopped again.
I know that the only thing stopping me is me. I'm hoping that all of you can provide encouragement, accountability, and friendship.
I will do my best to reciprocate.

For true success ask yourself these four questions: Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?
