Hi,

I hope your son's appointment went well. It sounds like some cognitive behavioral therapy and medication may be in order. When my son was very young,He is now 30 years old. I resisted him taking medicine until I was totally convinced it wasn't just a behavioral problem. That was before he had a formal diagnosis. After going to parenting classes and doing behavioral therapy for two years I thought different. Now, I believe a little medicine even if it's just temporary with therapy can be a definite benefit. I realize now, that until the neuro-chemistry of the brain is helped. the mind has a hard time learning anything new. My son is still on medicine, as an adult. He sees a psychiatrist every month. A wonderful doctor, he is. Little by little he is taking less and less, the older and more educated he is and more self control he has learned. He doesn't like taking medicine, but it sure beats being out of control and miserable. He's getting there...

Blessings, and good luck!

Thank you so much! I often find myself worrying about the future for my son. His anxiety is so bad right now that we can't even go to the park if other kids are there. Even one other child and he is shaking and crying. Thankfully we have a psych appt tomorrow morning at 8am so I am thinking positive! I know that I am doing all I can, but some days it just doesn't feel like enough.

Hi,

And welcome!

My adult son has Asperger's and my 11 year old grandson has high functioning Autism. I know what your going through when you say you have little free time. Lol. When my son was little I had to work and it was hard. I homeschooled my son in H.S. Kept him out of trouble :) I homeschooled my grandson when he was in second grade to bring him up to speed communication/social skills wise. It was so worth it. Now he's doing great all around! Yes, he has his moment and he is different, but he is functioning very well considering he didn't talk more than 3 word sentences when he was four years old. Now he's in the advance academic program regular classroom at a really great middle/H.S. He still struggles a little with writing, but he's coming along. He makes good grades with writing,, but has to work extra to get there. My son is still living with me. He's got anxiety issues that have made him a little reclusive, but he's very verbal and social otherwise. No one knows he's different, he has such great social skills. He's learned to monitor and control his anxiety and not get into situations that provoke anxiety. It took quite a lot of training at home, but he mastered it well. He's working and getting married to a wonderful woman next year. So, there's definitely hope around the corner. Just don't give up! Your son will be fine with a lot of help. emoticon

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. Message me any time, or post in the chat section. I am sure to see your post in my e-mail. I have it on my phone as well.

Hope to see you around soon :)

Hi!

My name is Sawyer and I have a 9 year old son with HF Autism and general anxiety disorder. We are currently trying to get his anxiety under control so that we can begin OT and Behavioral therapy. He attends an online school (k12), so I spend the majority of my time with him, either taking him to appointments, playing with him or teaching him. I don't get a lot of down time and that makes working out a challenge. Thanks for having me!
