This is nice that there seems to be newbies ready to make it happen in Binghamton. I myself love to walk and winter is nice if the conditions are right. The great part about Spark Friends are that there is no judgment, We all have had or are having similar struggles. I agree with the philosophy that doing something is much better than doing nothing.

Having said that I am still struggling with my lungs and I'm not thinking I will make it to this particular walk. I do look forward to the next one though. emoticon

Sounds super to me! Saturday, Otsiningo...how about meeting up around the pavillion parking near the restrooms?

Honing in on time...does noon sound good? Or should we aim for later?

I'd be up for a Saturday afternoon in Otsiningo Park. A little cooler walk in the sun will probably be more comfortable than walking on an overcast day with snow. Otsiningo is an easy beginning walk. No one will get lost. Parking is easy, and the weather will be photo- friendly.

You don't need to beat anyone else to be a winner.

No worries...we'll pick a nice and easy pace. If it's good enough for Planet Fitness, it's good enough for us: NO JUDGEMENT ZONE! :-)

Besides, who among us haven't "been there, done that?"

The whole idea is MOVING and CONNECTING. So essential for a full life!

I'd like to meet new people & find people to walk with, but I'm so nervous that I'll be the heaviest, slowest person & then feel utterly humiliated :-( I have an extensive amt to lose & am just starting out.

The latest weather forecast looks like Sunday will be the more pleasant weather day this weekend with mid-30's. Sat. may still be too cold for some in the mid-20's...although it's looking like the sunnier of the two days.

What do folks think? How about a mid-day walk along one of our beautiful local trails!

Chime in your preferences on this message thread and let's nail down a date, time & location.

Welcome aboard KAH0988!

I don't "do" running, but I DO commit myself to one 5K a year, the Binghamton Bridge Run in early May. I figure it's good to "mix it up" a bit...can't ALWAYS be on my bike...lol. So I'll be ramping up my 5K prep during the month of April. I have a 5K mapped out from the RiverWalk Athletic Center down the RiverWalk, over the Washington St. Bridge up over 434 to Vestal Ave and over to MacArthur School track and loop around there a few times and head back to RiverWalk. I'm hoping they'll get the MacArthur renovations done in time for me so I don't have to find a new route...lol!

Another 5K I'll sometimes practice on is North Otsiningo Park from the parking area down to the pavilions by the gardens and back.

Thank you for the links Don! (now to remember it's Rail Trail, not Riverwalk!)

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Binghamton at the beginning of September and haven't been out exploring much but I love walking/bike riding at Otsiningo Park! I am looking forward to spring to explore more places to walk.

I am also signed up for my first ever 5k - The Color Run - Shine! It is coming to SUNY Broome on April 26 so I am determined to be ready for that. I am doing the Spark 5k walk/jog program to prepare myself :)

No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch!

Oh you're referring to the Vestal Rail - Trail...another cool place to walk.

The RiverWalk is downtown Binghamton along the Chenango River leading down to Confluence Park. It also "almost" connects with the Cheri Lindsay park trail that runs along behind the Binghamton K-Mart.

I just started to walk the Riverwalk this past Fall starting at the Michael's end. I haven't been back since Winter started and seriously need to!

At this point the upcoming weekend looks like it will be pretty inviting both Sat. & Sun. If there is interest we can firm up our plans through the week ahead and plan an outing on one of those days this weekend. I believe I could free up time either Sat. or Sun.

Be sure to let your fellow Team members know your preference and post them here! :-)

Welcome aboard!

Super to have another local person joining our local SparkTeam! Do you have some favorite areas for walking? Right now planning a walk can be challenging as one never knows if we're going to be trudging through slop or freezing our bones...lol! When the sun is out and it's not TOO cold, however, a winter walk could be a great thing to share!

Perhaps we can keep our eyes peeled in the days leading up to the weekend and post a meet & greet walk on either Sat. or Sun. at some of our local parks such as Otsiningo, Chenango Valley, Riverwalk. We'll post a day / meeting time on either Thurs. or Fri. and make it HAPPEN!

I'm going to post a SparkMail to the Team and encourage you all to come back to this message thread to post your interest. Also post your ideas for cool places to walk! There are so many nooks & crannies to the Southern Tier!

How about it folks? Let's get our local SPARK in gear! :-)
