There are a couple of us that are active and I would love for this group to grow. I have been doing Parelli for about 5 years. How long have you been doing Parelli?

Hi. My name is Bonnie and my horse is Mystery. He is a 16-year-old Polish Arab gelding.
I bought him as a 2-year-old and trained him myself. I had trained my previous Arab from a yearling and thought I knew what to do but I was older and Mystery was a different "horsenality" so his training wasn't what I had hoped it would be. At the time, I didn't know about Parelli or horsenalities and I was using the method of another well-known trainer. Although I really admire this trainer, his method was just too complicated for me and I was very discouraged. My friend & I went to a Parelli demonstration a few years back and I knew right away that this was the method I should be using. Of course, by this time Mystery was much "older" but I have found that he is very responsive to the Parelli method, it was easy for me to understand and my Right brain Introvert is such a better horse for it. I have been a SparkPeople member for almost a year now and knew about the teams but not about this one. I am glad to be able to connect with other Parelli members. I do belong to the Savvy Club and Parelli Connect but none of the horse people I know or people who board where I do follow Parelli. I'm pleased to be part of this Team. emoticon

Hello from Plattsburgh, NY...right across the lake from you Vermonters. New to Parellis. I adopted my first horse and his friend (so he wouldn't be alone with a woman who knows next to nothing about horses) last June. I can hardly believe it has been almost a year and I have enjoyed every single day of it! Zeus is a 23 yr. old sorrel gelding QH and Onyx is a 24 yr.old black standardbred. They were both headed for slaughter after 15 years of devoted service at a local stable. I am really thankful to our locas ASPCA for saving them. They are awesome for helping me learn. I bought a Parelli book last week and it makes so much sense! I am going to begin level one this month. I am down from 260 to 225 with Spark People. Then I decided I deserved the horses. Since then I have only gone down to 220, but hope to lose more this summer, my goal weight being about 175. I am 52! I also love to kayak and ride my Trek. I have two grown children and a very exceptional husband of 33 years. He now is a horse lover as well. I'm glad I found this team and I am going to look for that video on horse personalty. Have a great SPRING everyone!

THAT IS awesome. I loved going to the clinics. I learned a lot and it was so fun getting to play with other parelli folks.

I got to go to a Parelli event in July of 2009. That was the only time they got within 300 miles of me and I can't wait to go to my next event. Fortunately I live within 20 miles of three Parelli instructors and they have taught me SO much. Parelli has changed my life with my horses. I enjoy ground work as much as riding now.

I am so glad I found the Parelli group on Sparkpeople! I love both! I need to lose some weight so that I can feel balanced in the saddle again. I am on my second week and feeling much better after losing just 5 pounds.

I seen and met the Parelli's 2 years ago in Sioux City, IA. The clinic was amazing to watch.

HI,
I am new to spark people but not to weight issues (unfortunately) or Parelli.
I rode with Pat back in 1993 when his program was much simpler but harder to understand. More like Ray Hunt.
It has evolved with the help of his second wife Linda.
I used to teach and train a little, competed a little and now I enjoy trail riding.
I have owned a twh, arab, quarter, paint, mule and now we have 2 Rocky Mt. gaited horses.
My goal is to lose 20 pounds by summer and a total of 50 pounds by next summer.
I'm excited to be part of this team.
annette

Good morning! I'm a Parelli student in Gilbert, SC, and new to Sparkpeople. I was wondering if you all could use another Savvy member? It would be great to be in the company of other Savvy people on my weight-loss journey, too. There are other horsy-related teams and message boards out there, but I'm afraid I can't stand to read them! We have two Paint/QH mares (half sisters who are both LBI), the younger one's full QH momma (LBI/E bipolar!) and just brought home a beautiful full QG sorrel gelding (LBI for now, but we all know how that can change). Working on Liberty patterns, getting ready to send in L2 online and freestyle audition.

welcome all!

LBE/LBI - means I have a horse that is left brained extrovert with left brain introvert tendancies. The Parelli Horsenality DVD teaches you how to recognize why your horse is the way he is by figuring out his traits and tendancies of personality. Makes it easier to figure out methods of training. For instance my horse is easily bored, tends to buck when asked to do something he doesn't like and yet is friendly, constant, and will do just about anything you ask of him. Never bolts, never gets wound up tighter than a drum, a thimble maybe :)

Anyway if you haven't done so already I would suggest you borrow that DVD from someone or purchase it from the website - its well worth it and helps explain why some horses react the way you do and how to deal with them.

Charlie I so want to set up a play day with the locals but some of them don't have trailers, the one girl I ride with is also learning Level I as am I - another is on the fence still about it all. I usually ride twice if not three times a week, but I use the games as a warm up each and every time.

Hi, I've been riding horses forever (my whole life) after watching parelli work with horses i have become an avid fan. I've been watching all his shows on rfdtv enough to get the concept of his training. With the level one games I need a lot of help. Does anybody have any tips or advice with the first level training?

Maggie, thanks for creating this team. My name is Carol and I am playing in level 2 with my LBE/LBI 6 year old Quarter/Thoroughbred. She has a baby who just turned 3 today and I have not really had much time to play with her but she knows the principle games at least. I am looking forward to playing more with her and starting her under saddle when I can find time.

I guess I started Parelli back in 2005 and I am an official Level one grad. Sassy has proven to be both a difficult horse and a great teacher all in one and I wouldnt trade her for the world.

My name is Maggie and I purchased my first horse at the age of 40 (me that is) last year - his name is Ly (Lee) and he's a 7yr old sabino paint.

He's a LBE/LBI not a HUGE play drive but will if you entice him long enough - but he gets bored very easily.

When we started playing the games he learned very quickly but then he's had some work done already before I bought him and is use to things going on around him - so much so that he's a little too desensitized but we're working on that. Once I get his attention its hard to keep it, but we're working on that too.
