Kathy,

I will keep you posted! Can I add you as a friend here on Spark people? I am from Saskatchewan, Canada. I live in a small town just out the city of Saskatoon, if you want to look it up.

We have no place to get the sleeve surgery here in Canada. I am going to be going to a bariatric centre outside of the country. I am not afraid of that as I know at least 10 people who have gone there and all of them are doing wonderful! The company I am going through with arranges everything for you. The are fantastic. The staff is made up of only former patients who have had the surgery at the bariatric centre I am going to. Even the CEO has been through the procedure. The pair you with a facilitator who is with you right from the time you make your first contact with them. And they provide follow up for at least the first five years after your surgery plus there are monthly support groups, functions, all kinds of things that keep everyone together and supported! So great.

Debra

Debra,

Positive is the only way to be - the other way gets us no where. I live in Kansas City and they have a great bariatric center. I went there - they have a new facility over on the Kansas side, very modern with up to date equipment. I love my doctor he was very straight forward and no nonsense. The hardest part to this whole thing for me was the pre-op liver reduction diet. I had to do two weeks of nothing but high protein drinks and liquids. I lost 14 pounds before surgery. I really thought it would be hard - the hardest part was not that I was hungry I just got very tired of those protein drinks. I wanted something that wasn't sweet.
Hang in there - the surgery was the best thing I have done for myself. My surgery went very well and I was home the next day - about day 4 I thought what in the world have I done but after that I haven't looked back. You get so you know what you can eat and how much - I have never pushed it and I haven't been sick once (of course I am very careful) I have my go to snacks and I eat about 6 times a day - small amounts.

You CAN do this! YOU are worth it.

Let me know when you get your surgery date!
Kathy

Hi K:

YOu sound so positive and that is wonderful. I haven't started any pre-op yet but when I do I will let you know. I will be needing the positive energy to stay on track! Where did you have your surgery?

Debra,

Wish you the best. I have been overweight my entire life and been in pretty good health. Until I hit 50 that is and now I just hurt. Had my VSG on 8/22 and really feeling better. Protein and water is the key. Down 33 pounds so I am 1/4 of the way to my goal.
good luck with you - follow doctors orders and get the protein and water in. OH and don't forget those vitamins they are really important.

Greetings this early morning! I am Debra and I am working towards having the "Sleeve" either before Christmas or just in to the new year. I have been planning for this for over two years and am excited to be heading in that direction...finally! emoticon

I have been overweight for most of my life. At the age of 53, I am tired of extra pounds I am carrying around and the effect it is having on my body and mental health. emoticon It is time to get rid of it so I can be here for my children, my (hopefully) grandchildren and my guy, Steve!

Glad to be here and tracking my goals on SparkPeople. I look forward to meeting more of you as the days/weeks/years go by!
