Hi Linda, I am new to this team. You are not alone! I am 60 and have had Hashimoto's for over 10 years. Recently my doc lowered my Armour thyroid meds. She did it too fast and sent me into a tail spin. I called back and asked to go slower. She agreed and I hope to slowly lower my amount. She is trying to make sure I am not on too high of a dose and cause heart issues. I have learned to ask a lot of questions and stick up for myself!! Not easy for me to do. I hope you have good luck on your meds.

I am noticing that my meds are not working. My doctor did increase my dosage in October. I hope that it shows a difference.

my last doctor did not want to help my with my hypothyroid. i dont think the medicine was helpful but i have a new doctor and i want to learn to manage it better before it gets worse. of course they want to try the meds right away so i will try that and if it does not seem to be working then i can push for non-drug treatments

Welcome, Linda.

When the proper medication and dose get dialed in for you, you *should* feel much better. If you are not feeling better, advocate for yourself and explore other alternatives.

For some of us the synthetic thyroid hormones do not work for us. I happen to be one of those folks. My PCP tried for 18 months to regulate thyroid function for me with synthetics to no avail. Once we shifted to a natural preparation (I used different doses of Armour Thyroid on different days of the week.), I felt MUCH better. It was staggering how much better I felt Ö and FAST! Like in a couple of weeks! Shocked me given how bad I'd felt for so long.

I have several medical issues. Always thin as a younger woman. Cannot seem to get myself out of the 150s despite watching my diet and doing well, most days. Plenty of gym exercise. My TSH levels have been all over the place for a few years. I was just given the prescription for Synthroid. I am 63.

Happy to find this team.

Hi Pam. I'm glad you made you're way here too. Welcome. A lot of issues to deal with, sounds like my DH. Seems like we are always going to doctors.

Pam, My apologies for the delayed response.

emoticon Happy to have you join us!

emoticon on your success and persistence in addressing your health and well-being. I admire your persistence.

You are not the only one amongst this group addressing underlying autoimmune issues. Although I have had thyroid issues since the late 1980s / early 1990s, it was not until the late 1990s that the clinical diagnosis finally came. And, it was not until I experienced a non-traumatic pelvic fracture in 2015 that I began digging deeper to try and understand the underlying health issues.

In hindsight, these issues have likely dogged me since birth. Better to come to an understanding later rather than never?

Again, emoticon

Hi all, I'm Pam, been with Sparks for a very long time. (*Check out my Spark Page)
Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism this past May as well as other autoimmune disorders.
I had lost 200 pounds then all of a sudden I stopped losing and started gaining when my exercise and diet hadn't changed. So then I started exercising more, harder and cut down calories even more and still gained. As well as I had so many other symptoms. I talked to my Neurologist about it (had a Mini Stroke Dec 31st, 2017) and she is the one who had me tested. Within weeks of being put on Levothyroxine I began losing weight naturally. I've now lost the 26 pounds I gained plus 5 more so far. Life has changed so much this year. I see so many Doctors now. Makes my head spin just thinking about it. Anyway, just wanted to say hello, I'm happy I found this group and look forward to getting to know you all, learning more about Hypo and making new friends.
