I have to agree with CJ. You see, this disease is unique to the individual. POE should be the up to the person. What works for one, doesn't work for the other due to the one day at a time belief system. Life happens and POE changes all the time. If one way works for a while and then you have to tailor it to achieve your specific goal.....then that is what has to happen for you. We are not perfect. Progress not perfection is really a blessing in disguise for POE in my opinion. POE for a 6 foot man is not going to work for a 5 foot woman. That is how you have to kind of look at it. I love the fact that OA makes us accountable for our own actions towards a plan.....We got this disease now its up to us to get well. Not by others standards but by our HP and our own.

Janine

I was going to reply saying that one person's plan of eating is not someone else's, but Mary has said that very well!

But, I will add that even one person's plan of eating at one point in their life will be different at another point.

Examples:
When I was losing, I had 3 meals, two snacks a day. Then, as my weight went down, I needed less food a day in order to continue to lose my excess weight. I took out the two snacks. Then, when I reached a healthy weight, I kept on losing and losing. I had to add back in first one, then another snack in order to maintain my weight. Always conferring with my HP and with my sponsor each step of the way.

An OA friend of mine faithfully followed a 3-0-1 plan. (3 meals, nothing in between, 1 day at a time) for over 2 years. She is now pregnant and follows a 6 meals a day plan, as that is what works for her to not get over-full at each meal, and to prevent nausea, at the same time making sure she is never too hungry either.

I completely understand overwhelmed. There's so much information to digest, so many choices to make. But your POE has to suit you or it won't work. My sponsor shared hers with me, and she's quite successful at maintaining weight loss. The important thing to remember is that your disease is yours, so your "treatment" must be yours as well. I don't know who Ms. Sheppard is, and I'm sure her POE works for her, but you need to experiment a little and find what suits you and your lifestyle and your needs. Then you will have a POE that you can life with every day, one day at a time.

You can do this!

I have two of the O A books and I even visited Kay Sheppards food plan, also when I asked this on a OA Facebook page I felt a women was rather rude. Kay's POE said no caffeine, non of this non of that ect. Just reading that I felt over whelmed.

Hello to you, too, and welcome to the program. Nothing says you can only eat 3 meals a day. Many folks have a plan of eating (POE) that includes a snack or two. As for abstinence, it may seem hard but you'll get used to it. Remember, you only have to stay abstinent one second, minute, hour, day at a time. Many people get overwhelmed, and many people relapse and return. I've done that myself. Repeat the serenity prayer, and depend on your Higher Power. You can do this, and you're not in this alone.

I finally went to my first O.A. Meeting. It was nice only three people total but I kinda liked that too. I am having such a hard time following the three meals a day rule and staying abstentent is there any advice out there?
