Hello everyone My name is Phyllis.
It's always good to learn new tactics on this journey to healthy living.
I have the No S Diet book and have decided to begin with "no snacks" as I am working on other things too and don't want to burn out.
So far I'm loving the simplicity of this idea and plan to eventually do all three S's.
Nice to be here. emoticon

Hey all! emoticon I see a lot of familiar faces here from other teams that I am a member of. Word of mouth is still the best advertisement.

I feel that this approach is compatible with what else I am doing (KISS) emoticon at this time so that is why I am here. emoticon

Welcome Sheila!

I've been here for a short time and I'm pleased with No S ... I can follow it now far better than I could in the beginning. It's different for each of us but given a good chance I think No S is a good habit to develop! Glad you're here! ~ dj

Thanks Gill,

I ordered the Kindle version and started reading it last night.

I started following it this morning. So simple that I can start right away. emoticon

I know my lunch needs to be a little larger (more protein) because waiting for dinner is a little difficult right now. I don't want to eat too early. Starting to feel it a little.

I think I like the three meals a day... at least to try it and see how my body adjusts to it. I had already stopped eating after dinner, but I always had a snack after work. I did not have it today so maybe my body is used to it and is temporarily confused. emoticon

First, I have to say, I am NOT pre-diabetic, but I certainly used to be someone who had to eat every 2-3 hrs otherwise I'd feel shaky, headachy and grouchy! Within 2 weeks of doing No S, I no longer needed my snacks.

I certainly recommend getting the book - in any format - it's a great resource and answers all the questions.

Although the general guidance is for three meals a day - the more important thing is deciding and sticking to whatever format you decide on: so, for example, you could decide to eat four smaller meals, or three meals and one mini-meal (aka snack!) a day. It's eating 'off habit' or chaotically/randomly that causes problems. Habit-formation is the key.

It doesn't happen often... but I have always had snacks available for the rare times it did. Now that I am eating healthier it has not been a big issue. It used to happen often if I did not have a high protein meal.

I was just wondering if others had this issue and how they worked it into the No S plan.

Thank you for your guidance and the welcome! emoticon

Welcome!

Do you get the shakes at work, too? If not, then it's likely not a true blood sugar issue, but just the body trying to get better at tapping into its stores of glycogen and resisting the new habit.

BUT health conditions trump the 3-meal structure, meaning that you should never insist on it if it will not support a present condition, but also know that some people have reported that feeling shaky was a temporary thing. After a few days, it went away. However, no one person's experience can predict what another one's will be. You can take your time to wean yourself off the extras if that feels safer.

Know also that beverages are allowed (though not drinks that blend solid foods to liquids) but ones with milk, including nut milks, can sometimes tide people over. Drinking some coffee or tea with a milk or even sipping half a cup of milk or more straight rarely leads to overeating but snacking even on healthy foods can set a person up to expect a snack and end up reaching for other foods when the ideal snack food isn't available. It can also influence what she eats at her meals, where she unconsciously thinks that she's already had a healthy snack so it's okay to load the plate with other foods that "healthier" ones would crowd out.

I am a teacher, too, and I gently suggest that you try very hard to resist filling the time between meals on N days with food. It is a very easy habit, but one that can be broken; millions of very hard-working people throughout time and the world have done it and thrived. I myself believe it is better to fill my time with even rather silly stuff than to eat. I've been at it for several years and have NEVER regretted resisting the urge to snack, even if all I did was watch TV or mope!

When I feel like that I eat my next meal instead of a snack. I'm at home and so I can do that, but if you can't I say have a healthy snack. If I don't take care of the shakes right away they get harder to get rid of, so I don't wait.

Hi everyone!

There are a lot of No S members on another Spark Team I belong to. I have been doing a little reading into the "No S" and I was thinking of using it. For the past few months I have been eating a healthy diet and the scale has dropped 15 lbs.... but I snack, even if it is healthy food, I snack.

While I am at work it is easier for me to just eat my meals with no snacking. I work in a school and after this week I am off for the summer. I need more structure, something to be accountable for... a guide I guess. I worry I will lose my healthy habits and snack my health away. emoticon

My only concern is I am pre-diabetic so sometimes I get the shakes if I wait too long between meals. I eat high fiber, lean protein heavy meals but every now and then my body lets me know I need fuel before it is meal time. Does anyone else deal with this? If so what do you do?

Thinking of ordering the Kindle version of the book.
