I originally joined 11 years ago. (under a different user name) Originally, I was at my wits end, and my highest weight, without a clue as to how to get it all under control! I randomly found Spark from a desperation on line search for weight loss tools, and the rest is history! My motives have changed over the last 11 years, as to why I am here. The knowledge that Spark contains is unfathomable. I love the learn and explore this journey to health.

Hello from Seattle(ish)! I'm Embi!

When you finally learn that a person's behavior has more to do with their own internal struggle then it ever did with you, you learn grace.

I joined SP in the beginning stages of the website. Things were a bit rough back then. For example, the recipes and blogs were separate logins in order to comment, earn points, etc. I was so glad when they fixed that! Don't recall exactly why I joined. Left and came back again several times under different logins. Really enjoyed the "Coach Nicole" challenge days the best. She was really encouraging to me. So sad to see her leave.

I've joined SP about 10 years ago. It has always helped me lose my pregnancy weight in the past. This time around though it just doesn't want to come off. But I try to stay on here to prevent more weight gain, at least! I can't give up...

My spirits took a dip today. Feeling like there are people who have lost the vision of why we first joined Sparkpeople and feeling that they've lost their spark and trying to think of how to help reignite it.
And feeling totally helpless and at a loss as to how to help rekindle this team's flame and to keep it burning.

What made over 14,220 people join this team? What drew them in the first place?

What will it take to bring back that spark?

Coronation AB Canada

Married 3 years and work full time at the regional newspaper as head of marketing.

Present Goal Weight: 175

I'm now 57 and BAZINGA! Life has become an entirely different journey for me! And if I've got the determination and grit to go through with this I and the others are going to give it all we've got to do our best to see that you do too! We're going to go it together side by side and meet each other at the finish line looking hot and most importantly healthier. This journey is a lifestyle change and has its daily challenges to overcome. There's always going to be bumps in the tarmac along the way. Just remember to set daily goals and if there is one that you don't meet? Don't sweat it! It's NOT failure just a non-accomplishment that can be accomplished another day. We do not beat ourselves up over it either. It's one day at a time. And we are here to support each other to keep each other motivated determined and on track. We never quit quitting It's all for one and one for all!

Overall Goal: So being 57 with a few remaining health issues that I know I can overcome with weight-loss and maintaining. I am determined and nothing detours me but, I work in an office so although I move quite a bit it's not enough to burn adequate calories for the weight-loss I'm looking for. My trouble is finding time for exercise.
I am very active on weekends. It's during the week that I have difficulty with. So, my goal is to do 40 minutes Mon-Fri.
I have both a stepper and recumbent bike. All it would take is 20 minutes a day on each. That is if the weather is unfavourable for walking.

All of us are conditioned to live within a limited perception of our own power to transform our lives -- moving through our days with invisible tethers that hold us back from becoming who we really are. But while the elephant submits to its restricted boundaries, we possess the freedom to set the scope of our own dreams. We're free to move out of the dusty circle where we've stood, stuck and discouraged, and into a new terrain that offers a landscape of vast potential.

Chris Downie

I've had invisible tethers all of my life It was actually Joel Furhman who helped me successfully break mine. His nutritarian lifestyle I still follow but through Sparkpeople I have found invaluable friends and support.

Sparkpeople helped me find that positive force that flows through me that is unique. At SparkPeople, I tapped into it to envision my best life and then achieve it.

Why did you join?

Hullo all - I'm Carolyn (72) (from Colorado). I've been with SP since January 2018. Did well meeting my goals - reached goal weight in October, ate healthy, consistently worked out.

DH and I flew to San Antonio to spend Christmas with son and family. The day before we arrived, son had received the final contract for a new job in Leavenworth, KS. That meant TX house to sell - clean up inside and outside for staging, showings, etc. Son was to report to KS 1/15/19. His wife was newly pregnant, really sick, and dealing with an adorable very active 2-year-old. There was no way she could handle all of this on her own so we volunteered to stay with her until we could caravan to KS, DH and I packed 95% of the house, took care of DIL and granddaughter (who got admitted to the hospital with RSV during this time). Son found a house in KS, closed on it in March so we could caravan up there. Got to KS, unpacked 95% of the house for them. (Day after son started new job his last master's degree term began so he was out of the picture to help out much). We ended up being with them for 3 months.

So where am I going with all this rambling? I put all care of myself on the back burner just to get the many tasks done, all of which were under tight deadlines. Wasn't able to work out, log into SP for 3 mos. simply because I had no mental or physical energy left at the end of the day.

Finally got home this past Monday - Mr. Scale shows a gain of 22 lbs. My muscles are really talking to me after getting back into the gym and home workout routines after missing 3 months. I've jumped back into SP with both feet but could use some accountability and encouragement. Hopefully this 3-month "vacation" is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. I'm really thankful that DH and I stayed healthy and productive during this time.

But I'm back in my normal lifestyle and am determined to un-do the damage as soon as possible. Already enjoying healthy eating and my concentration is finally coming back.

Since we'd only packed clothes for Christmas, I brought Christmas socks and ended up wearing them into March. As an aside, it's amazing what grows in toilets that haven't been flushed for 3 months.

Oh, honey, I'm with you! Push push push. Do it and gett'er done My kind of girl!
My downfall is exercising. So I have to PUSH myself every day to do at least 30 minutes of cardio.
I have an 8 hr desk job so I NEED to move!
So how be we push each other.
If we have to have someone to answer to, to keep us in line then that's what we do.I'm only 2 maybe 3 years older than you so there's no excuse for either of us NOT to get to where we not only want to be but need to be.

LAST year I maintained a 60+ lb. weight loss and actually lost another 10 (but I gained those back over the holidays.)

THIS year I will 1) Undo the 10-lb. damage; 2) Lose an additional 10 lbs. to attain my 135-lb. goal weight; and 3) take up body building.

I had a mid-life crisis a couple years ago. While I'm mostly over it, I've managed to reconnect with my inner teenager. I've concluded that's a GOOD thing; I do teach high-schoolers, after all.

I think I need people to not just encourage me but to PUSH me. I think I want to challenge notions of what is "reasonable" for a menopausal 55-year-old. I don't want to retreat into my comfort zone, but to move forward, defy my age, and exceed expectations.
