the following is an easy do-it-yourself way to calculate your BF% Fat# LBM# and Ideal-for-you weight.
(-) is to multiply the body part by the factor in ()
-/- is to divide.

Women over 30
HIPS + THIGH – (2)Calf – WRIST = % Body Fat
Weight x %BF = Fat #
Weight – Fat # = Lean Body Mass
LBM -/- .78 = Ideal Body Weight

Women under 30
HIPS + (.80)THIGH – (2)CALF – WRIST = % Body Fat
Weight x %BF = Fat #
Weight – Fat # = Lean Body Mass
LBM -/- .80 = Ideal Body Weight

Men under 30
waist + (1/2)hip – (3)forearm – wrist = % Body Fat
Weight x %BF = Fat #
Weight – Fat # = Lean Body Mass
LBM -/- .90 = Ideal Body Weight

Men over 30
waist + (1/2)hip – (2.7)forearm – wrist = % Body Fat
Weight x %BF = Fat #
Weight – Fat # = Lean Body Mass
LBM -/- .85 = Ideal Body Weight

Ahhh...I missed the post that explained the 22% part. Yay, not needing a math tutor after all! And thanks for your other calculations, since my current goal weight is 119, I'm aiming for the right range with 18% being the top end.

The equation is correct.
You are simply using the wrong factor.
The factor listed is for a woman wanting to be an average of 22% BF.

If you are wanting to be 16-18% BF you have to do the following:

for 16%:

100 - 16 = 84

LBM 97.3 -/- .84 = 115.8#

18%:

100 - 18 = 82 = 118.2#

Is that better?

If you are not willing to weigh that much then you might want to lose some muscle mass.
Something I would never suggest.

Ok, either my math is bad, or this equation is trying to make me crazy! 20.25 BF, 24.7# fat, 97.3# lean, but it's telling me my ideal body weight should be almost 3# HEAVIER than I am right now! Excuse me, still trying to LOSE a few pounds here! Aiming for between 16 and 18% (trying to leave my behind in the past!) And, unfortunately, when I was young and very thin, the periods NEVER STOPPED COMING! Hooray for hysterectomies!

It sure does make a difference WHERE those fat pounds are located doesn't it?

You have 20.5% body fat.

You have 26 Pounds of fat and 101 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

Ha! Tell that to my muffin top!

Oh, I don't have TOM anymore anyway because of the pill I am on. My doctors (I got four opinions on this) always say that's a good thing. That women should not have it as often as they should to avoid cancers and complications from ovulations.

But, at 22% I have too much fat. I see it and feel it, so I definitely need to go down some more and check it out every so often.

I love that link - makes it easy - although it could be off by 3%, so we'll see what happens over time.

I see where the site says 18% and below is for athletic women, but other sites with calculators list 14% and under as the athletic category...so, who knows..I'll just go by pictures and what I see in the mirror to determine when I will stop losing and start maintaining.

High Hitting atheletic women who go below 18% BF can find themselves with amenorrhea.

I'm working on getting myself back down to 22% and then seeing where my muscle mass is and going from there. I'm pretty curvy and want to stay that way....just not be so 'fluffy'....

You have 22.3% body fat.

You have 34.5 Pounds of fat and 120.5 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

This is what I just got...I wish I could get down to 15-16%...working on it.
