Hi, My name is Elle. I recently got back on track with my eating and exercising. Cooking all my meals has been challenging at time. Looking for ways to make it easier with a busy schedule and cook things that taste good.

Hi all you sparks out there. My name is Kitty and I live in Trenton Ontario. Moved here 3 years ago with hubby of 35 years for his job. Can't wait to move back to Texas where one of our daughters lives. I am excited to find this team 'cause I have been trying really hard to cook healthier and eat healthier. You see, I have this weight problem, that has crept up on me. Someone through out 30 pounds about two years ago and I'm afraid they landed on my body and I am struggling to move past the 8-10 pound initial loss and then I have about 50 more pounds to shed. I was raised in Alabama, no, Jen, I don't use bacon grease in my veggies any more. Maybe a little in my cornbread but it shurely is good, yall.

Hey Sparklers!! My name is Yanna and I am cooking challenged. My mom barely cooked when I was growing up--we would just stop for something on the way home. Fast food is my greatest challenge and I really want to defeat its place in my life. I have been teaching myself to cook for the past year. Salads and 30 min meals are my secrets to success. I love the idea for this challenge and I think once you marry the exercise and good, healthy eating---miracles happen!! I have confidence that we all will do well!!

On my way home from a glucose tolerance test this morning, starving and light-headed, my first thought was to stop at Sonic and get something, anything to eat. Went home instead and made a chicken wrap that was even better than Sonic's and better for me. Maybe I am ready for this challenge! Lots of medical issues right now that would definitely improve with better eating, weight loss and exercise so let's DO IT!

Hi,
My name is Lee & I desperately need to get back on track. I just had a set back for the last 4 months since my Mom passed away, & needless to say, I just strayed right into bad eating habits, & not exercising regularly.
Well mentally I'm feeling better since my Mom's passing, but in that time, which was a short time, I gained 10 LBS and I'm very upset. It looks like I gained double that weight because I'm short, it shows more.
So I'm ready to get back in gear & start to EAT CLEAN.
I'm happy i came across this team. Thanks!

Hello,

I'm in Nashville, and I'm working on losing over 100 lbs. I've come down 18 lbs. so far this year. I've really learned to love cooking this year. I enjoy cruising sparkrecipes.com for new recipes. I cook almost everyday, and am finding new ways to sneak fruits and vegetables into my diet.

Hi, I'm Jen, I'm a nurse, and I live in southwest ohio. I've lost 30 pounds, and have 31 more to lose to reach my first goal. I joined this challenge because I dine out far too often - a waste of money and a waste of calories. I'm looking to learn to cook my restaurant favorites at home for less calories.

Hello! I am excited to find this cooking challenge. I love to cook but it seems like I get in a rut. I cook for myself and then the rest of my family (husband and 3 children ages 9, 7, & 5) eat something different because they don't like what I eat. I want to learn how to flavor my healthy food so the rest of my family will enjoy it too and will want to eat it.

No one can do it for me - I have to do it for myself!!
Slow and steady wins the race.

I too have to watch, but for different reasons (food allergies, inflammatory foods, etc.), but I've never been much of a veggie eater. I like the mashed cauliflower, esp. when I add spices and things (garlic, cheese or whatever)

Cathy- I just read your posting. I am a diabetic so I have to stay away from certain starchy foods. Corn, peas, potatoes are not so good for me. Here is a list of the veggies that I am able to eat: asparagus, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower (this is used to make mash potatoes substitute, low cal etc.) green beans, peppers. Give the greens a try too, spinach, kale etc.
I wish you the best.

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

Hi Everyone, my name is Cathy and I live in Phoenix AZ. I'm working on eating healthier, and need good meals that I can serve my picky eaters here at home. I'm good at making a main dish pretty healthy, but it's also the side dishes, mainly vegetables that I could use some help on, instead of always having corn or green beans.

Hi! I'm Erin, a special education teacher in south TX, and I love to cook (and eat). I typically use whatever a recipe calls for, so I'm joining this challenge to get some tips on substitutions and ways to decrease calories in my favorite foods. Hope to learn some great things and meet lots of new friends! emoticon emoticon

Hi- my name is Elise. I already cook most of the meals for my DH and 3 teenage sons. Overall, we have a fairly healthy diet, but I am always trying to improve upon it! DH and I are trying to lose just a few pounds, so at the moment I am limiting my baking (my one true love) to zucchini recipes! Looking forward to some great ideas and tips from this team!

Hi, my name is Sue.
I decided to join this group when I realised I needed to learn to cook in more healthy ways. I am on a very strict diet due to high cholesterol and pre-kidney disease. I would also like to learn to cook foods that are delicious as well as healthy, so my family can enjoy them as well. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon emoticon we homeschooled our kids, too. I included cooking as home ec. It was also a good way to included math. This way they all learned about cooking, planning meals, running a household. Our son even learned how to wash his clothes, iron them, and sew on a button. While his sisters also learn how to change a tire, pump gas, etc. It was important to me that they all knew these things. My dad instilled this in us. He was in the military, with 4 kids, his thought was "what if my mom went in the hospital or something, he couldn't let 4 little kids starve." I've always remembered that. Take care & have a good day. emoticon

Cyclegirl- Not sure how old your children are.......
Perhaps you could use planing a meal and making it part of the lessons with your home schooled children. I think those are life skills that are invaluable. Give them ads from the newspaper and play money and make it part of the maths class, what they can buy and how much from their budget does it take. Do it at home then make a field trip to the supermarket and buy the goods to make that meal. Maths comes in to making a meal, baking a cake, a batch of cookies etc. I think you might have some fun! Perhaps you could do it once a week and then build to 5 meals a week etc.

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

Hello team! This is my weakest of all points. I make great plans, I exercise regular - but my cooking isn't organized very well and there are WAY too many times that I find I don't have what I need and we go out and grab something. Most of the time it's not healthy either. I have four kiddos which we homeschool and my hubby is a surgery resident, so needless to say that we get a little busy here and there. I'm hoping this will help both financially and nutritionally. Today is day one of week one!

Keep Smiling

Hi team! I know what I need to do, but I simply don't do it on a consistent basis. It took falling in love with running outdoors to get me to exercise regularly. I'm hoping this challenge will convince me to cook healthy more often. I think part of my challenge is my craving for variety mixed with a bad memory for new recipe ideas, but we'll work on that together.

Hello! My name is Michelle, and I'm from Maryland. I'm married with 4 kids, ages 11-24, all of whom are still home. I love to cook, especially bake, and would like to start making more healthy family meals we can all enjoy, not a separate meal for myself. I'd also like to slim down some of my baking recipes. I've lost about 50 pounds since joining Spark several years ago. It's been slow going, but I think this challenge could definitely help keep me on track.

Good morning! My name is Erneshia. I am no stranger to cooking...it's the healthy part that has me baffled. LOL! I love to cook southern favorites like fried chicken, collard green and macaroni and cheese. Sadly, our waistlines aren't so happy about all the fat and calories in those meal. I have successfully revamped my recipes to reduce fat and calorie counts but want to learn to try new things as well.

I have decided that each week I would buy a new fruit or vegetable and research ways to introduce them to my family. I understand that the initial exposure can make or break their opinion of the item so I know I need to be super careful on how I prepare it.

I really want to be more disciplined about shopping and meal plans. I try to approach my weekly meals like this but get off track often. I am hopeful that this challenge will get me off on the right track.

Hi. My name is Julie and I know to prepare a menu and shop from it and cook it, but something always breaks down in the process. I tend to purchase healthy foods. But I feel terribly inefficient in the kitchen. I tend to fix the main item, then the side and then the vegetables....but then just get too lazy for the veggies. I'm thinking about forcing myself to switch the order and see if I don't eat better. We'll see what I can learn from this challenge!

Hi, I'm Jess! I've been on Spark for 6 months and have lost 50 pounds...I'm really looking forward to this challenge and am trying really hard to make healthier meals that my entire family will enjoy...I have a son with chronic kidney disease who had a kidney transplant when he was 11 months old (he's now 5) so diet and exercise are ESPECIALLY important for him. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hello everyone, it's a little late to introduce myself but I will anyway. I joined this challenge for a few reasons. First of all I am a cook at a daycare center so I am looking for some inspiration to continue cooking at home instead of having the mentality of "I've been doing this all day". Second I want my family to eat healthier and not do something last minute which is so typical. I buy food for the week but I don't do a menu and that really helped this first week. Lastly I can just use the help because food is always a struggle for me. I am one of the many who think oh I'm not eating a lot of food and then you think about it afterward and realize yeah I did. So I look forward to the many discussions and ideas. Good luck to everyone and I hope we all have fun on our journey!

Hello Team! I am joining this team to become committed to creating healthier meals for me and my family. We are so used to eating on the run or take-out more than having a delicious home cooked meal. This is my first step to losing weight!

Hi Everyone, I'm joining this challenge to modify my eating. I'm good about doing my exercise but food is another matter, especially get togethers with friends. I hope to learn more about cooking and choosing the healthy food I need. Let's get started. Hope everyone achieves the trophy at the end of this challenge.

I'm here because we went to a Chinese buffet last night and I blew it big time! I know I can cook some of those same foods at home in a MUCH healthier way.

Hi I'm Diane.
I joined this team because I want to get back to planning healthy meals. When I do, I lose weight. It's that simple!

Hi! My name is Pat. I'm a 65yo grandmother of 7. I had triple bypass surgery 9/11/2009. My highest ever weight was 222. Currently I'm lurking in the mid 180s after a brief visit to the mid 170s. Goal is 125-140. Not sure if I can make it to 125, but if I can get to 140 and HOLD it, that would work.

I used to be thin. When I was thin, I planned meals and cooked. Since I've gotten heavy (postpartum, but my baby is nearly 34) I feel intimidated by the THOUGHT of planning menus, shopping for the meals, and actually following through with cooking. On the rare occasion that I get a good list put together and the food put away in the kitchen, I rarely follow through and make the meals. I've wasted WAY too much money on food that gets thrown out because I don't complete the task.

HELP!!! emoticon

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Dear God, please help me to remember that there is nothing that can happen to me that You have not permitted, and that if You have permitted it, You are right with me as I make my way over, under, around, or through it.

Hi, my name is Lisa and I love to cook. My problem is that everything I cook isn't always healthy. I hope I get some ideas on how to revamp some of the things I cook so that they are healthier. I also want to get better at planning my meals for the week so that I can have healthy lunches and dinners and not spend all my spare time in the kitchen.

Hello, I am Ann and I am here on this team to learn about cooking and being more healthy.

In doing this I know food and exercise have to be my best companions but I have to learn how to do good and healthy food. I also have to learn to plan so I can get the food into me the quickest way, because if not, the take out menus will be in one hand and the phone in the other!!!

I look forward to learning, doing the challenges and loosing weight at the same time!

Hi! My name is Erin and my story is that I don't eat very well when I get home from work. I don't know what to eat and am tired and not in the mood to eat much of anything, but I'm prone to hunger headaches so i have to eat something. I love my crockpot (just made up a new recipe today--quite tasty) but never remember to use it on the weekends. I don't eat red meat but 1 or 2 x a month and I don't eat pork (I can't stand most things that are pork based). I take salad of some sort for snack at work (I work in a preschool so I usually eat lunch with the kids that I work with) and finish my day with a cold bottle of crystal light--there are about 6 flavors that i rotate through every day. Anyway, I'm looking for ways to find something healthy to eat for dinner, even if I batch cook it on the weekends and eat it all week.

Don't stress and God bless!

Hi just discovered this team and am glad I did. I cook most week day meals at home and have lean cuisines for lunch, but am looking to get more organized on meal planning and to remove the red meat from the menu except perhaps one day a week.

Hi! I get three free meals a day at work, Mon. through Fri. I'm here to learn to make healthy weekend meals and snacks throughout the week. I also want to be able to recognize what is a healthy meal.

God's grace and peace be multiplied.
