Hi I'm Linda. I'm a mother of 8 Beautiful children, 6 girls and 2 boys, 1 of each is disabled so my life has always been about them i always came last and now i am paying the price with my weight. i developed diabetes 2, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. now its time to concentrate on me as my youngest is 12 and pretty self sufficent. All the girls are heavy and the boys are skinny.

Hello, my name is Janet and I am lucky to live with my wonderful husband and I have 3 sons - 23, 19 and 16. They are all tall and thin ... I am short and round.

emoticon That's not fair, is it?!? emoticon

I started SparkPeople for me but my family is going to be healthier too, I'm sure.

Funny moment: I made a yummy butternut squash whole wheat ravioli dish yesterday. My 16 year old said, "Oh, that was really good." I asked him to take the recycling out ... and he picked up the fresh pasta container read the "healthy choice" title and gave me a dirty look. I laughed and said, "Yup, that's healthy! Sorry, dude." He laughed and ate the rest ... leftovers do not exist in my house.

I'm excited about the challenge. My daughter and I both need to lose a good amount of weight and generally just get healthier. She is 12 years old and I know I set the tone for what is healthy and what is not. I want to set the best example possible for her.

I'm Laurie. I have 3 kids that live at home (another daughter grown up and gone). My daughters are 17 and 10 and my son is 14. My hubby is a long distance trucker so rarely home. My 17yr old and myself could both stand to lose 20ish pounds. I want to do this for myself and I want to involve my family because I want to make sure my daughter is on solid ground before she goes off to university next fall!

Hi, I'm Paula and I've been working with SP to improve my health for a few months now. I felt it was a good time to involve my 11 year old daughter. Do to schedules, she has developed her own not great habits and it's time to change them before her weight becomes an issue. She's also started spending too much time in front of the computer, which needs to stop.

Hi - I'm Christy and have 3 wonderful kids. 17 yo daughter, 9 yo son and 4 yo son. We have consistently been eating healthier in our house for quite some time, however I like the idea of this challenge and I know we can always do more! I have lost 43 lbs on SP this year and my husband has lost about 10 just from eating my dinners :) I am excited to do this and see the benefits for my family.

Hello,
I'm Sylvia and my husband and I have 8 children who are turning into adults so quickly that it is mind boggling. Our "baby" is now 12--and the other boys are ages 18, 19, 21, 26, and 28. Our daughters are ages 14 and 22. Two of them have their own places to live, but are here more than they are there, lol. We are all working at some kind of fitness activities except for our 28 year old and my husband (who works 9 hours a day, 7 days a week and gets in a lot of physical activity at his job.)
We are animal lovers and have 4 doggies--2 bassets, a pug and a doxie-lab. We have 6 cats right now (we rescue strays) and we have a rabbit, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, a rat... and I think that is all for now.
I am a teacher and have struggled with major health issues for the past 10+ years. I am working hard to get myself into better condition and part of what I need to accomplish is bringing my family back together and to have them see me as being a part of things. (I realized today that I have had over 40 surgeries in this same time frame--I have relied on my family for a lot, but I am getting myself back together and want to be an active participant.
I am excited to have found this team--and I'm raring to go. The new school year is a great time to add in other things as well--and we all need to work on fitness, so my kids don't end up repeating some of my problems.

Hi, Everyone! My name is Lori and I live in Atlantic Canada. I am 38.5 years old, married, & have 7 children. We are a "yours, mine, & ours" family... He had 4, I had 1, & then we had 2 together.

Fortunately, (for them) I am the only one in our family who is obese. However, I joined this team because I'd like to get them all eating healthy with me. It's hard to stay on track when they are eating garbage in front of me. Plus, they need to incorporate a healthy lifestyle while they are still young and information sponges. I do not want any of our kids to have to struggle with weight issues later on in life.

Hi I'm Suzie and 41 years old and a mom of an 11 year old boy that is also struggling with his weight just like his parents. I've learned a lot on spark people and am incorporating that into our lifestyle but could sure use the hints and encouragement to really get this ball rolling. HI, I'm Sarah. I am 29yrs old with a 7, 5 and almost 2yr old. I am just trying to teach them the right tools to make better decisions. My youngest has major food allergies so we have had to completely re-think the way we eat, prepare and buy food in our household. I'm Billie I'm 29 and have a 10year old son. I knew he was gaining weight but at his appt today he weighed 114pounds! So we are going to get serious about losing weight or at least maintaining his until he hits a growth spurt. He does nothing for activities except ride his bike to and from school most days which is 3/4 mile each way. He comes home watches tv and eats...and eats....and eats! Hopefully we can make some healthy changes to get back on track.

Hey every1 I'm Maga I m 42 yrs young, 3 grown children, 3 granddaughters, married 10 1/2 yrs

Good morning!
My name is Tracy and I am joining this challenge in order to get myself and my 2 boys healthy! We live a very active life and don't eat as healthy as we should. I work full-time and my boys play baseball 10 months out of the year. So between practice, games, homework, CCD, and just LIFE we never have time to sit down and eat a healthy meal together.
My youngest (8) is at a healthy weight but my oldest (11) and I could use to shed a few pounds!!!! I hope this team and challenge helps!!!!

Hey! I'm Danielle. I have always struggled with my weight especially after my parents got divorced when I was 10. I am now a mom to three awesome little guys all 3 and under. I have a supper supportive DH and really feel that I need to instill great values on how life should be now before my kids get too big. Hi! I am April. I have been struggling with my weight since having my DD 4 years ago and my 2nd DD 3 years ago. I didn't eat the healthiest prior to that either. DH doesn't like the food I have been cooking - it is healthier versions of the processed stuff he is used to .

Hi! I am Cheryle from Pittsburgh. Mother of 3 teens, have a 92 year old live in MIL, husband of 24 years. Four out of 6 of us are overweight or slightly overweight. My daughter still has the metabolism of a teen and my youngest son is going through a growth spurt. I am always or almost always watching what I eat. It's something I have always had to do. If the whole family would participate it would be great. I am going to really try.

Hello! I've been a part of SP since March, and it's done AMAZING things for me. This challenge makes sense on so many levels. My children (9 y.o. son/8 y.o. dtr.) are very thin and active. My husband is thin and I'm about 10 lbs. from my goal, but we all could use some improvement in the eating healthier dept. I want to eat healthier and have more intention to our meals- not just throw whatever's convenient together at the last minute all the time, like I seem to do now. That usually equals processed stuff, which IMO is OK occasionally but doesn't need to be our norm! I want to also make it meal TIME- not just grab your food and park in front of the TV (yup, that happens all too often as well, I'm sorry to admit!) Also hope to get ideas on things the kids and I can do together fitness-wise. Right now working out is my "me time" but I'd love to do some things as a family as well.
Looking forward to this challenge!

Hi, my name is Karen. I am a mother of two (one boy in 8th grade and one girl in 4th grade). Kids are healthy active and lean. Hubby and I are not, but taking steps to get there. I have started walking and am up to 10,000 steps a day (even if that means doing a figure 8 around the house!) Logging my food is one of the better ways for me to watch what I eat, but I took a few weeks off lately, so I better get back to it.

Looking for ways to all to be active and healthy together.

Hello everyone, my name is Chasity and I have a three year old daughter named Olivia. Due to some financial issues, we are living with my parents right now. I was raised in a family where you were always supposed to clear your plate and nutrition and exercise were not popular subjects. Hi, my name is Lynnette. I have an active family of 6! We eat generally healthy, but, we could make some adjustments to get better. I am hoping to motivate my sedentary husband. He won't exercise on his own and he is paying for it. My kids are 14, 10, 9, and 6 - 2 girls and 2 boys. It will be great to see if exercising as a family makes the ADHD half of the family a little more tired! I have always exercised on my own since I want to lose weight. But why not make this a family thing. It will teach my kids that, even though they are thin, they still need a healthy lifestyle. The easiest change that I recently made is Barilla multigrain pasta! It tastes just like the regular pasta. You just have to cook it a little longer to achieve the same texture. I wish they made a multigrain lasagna noodles!

I can do all things in Christ, who strengthens me!

Hi, I'm April, mother of two awesome tweens and married to the love of my life. I just celebrated 15 years of marriage and I am still in love so much! I am obese and have suffered in pain with back pain, knee pain, ankle swelling, and high blood pressure, for about 5 years. I am one of those that just didn't see the weight when I looked at myself and now wonder how I let myself go like this. I joined SP a while back, but got serious about it the beginning of the year. The summer was tough because of extreme heat and humidity so my weight loss slowed some, but I'm gearing up with fall coming. I've lost 30 lbs. so far and have about 52+ get out of obesity category. I am very excited to be part of a "family" challenge as my whole family needs this.

My name is Oona. I am married to a wonderful woman that I have been with for 20 years. We've only been married a little less than 2 years though. (I didn't want to make a commitment too soon....lol) She is in very poor health. She has osteoarthritis in her knees, she is very obese, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, diabetes and the list goes on and on. I have been letting myself go lately and after our latest scare with her heart, I decided that enough is enough. We are both couch potatoes and very rarely eat meals at the dining room table. I think if we started, we would eat better, eat less and eat healthier.

Hi I'm Sarah, Mom of 2 girls (11 & 3) and have a super awesome hubby! Growing up no one emphasized the importance of exercise & healthy eating to me or my hubby so as parents we've made a pack that WE WILL educate our daughter about how important it truly is! If you learn to love exercise at a young age then its not something you have to force yourself to do as an adult. I'm super excited to get started with this family challenge and get my girls involved!

Hi my name is Hari and I am married 19 yrs and have 3 boys! My family is fairly active, my eldest Izzy (16) is very active with soccer, Dino(12) is also following in his brothers footsteps, my youngest thinks he's active but needs some encouragement. All my boys are thin, so they think they're healthy. I am joining this challenge to help my boys realize that there is more to being healthy than staying thin. I want them to see the whole picture.

Hey there. My name is Leah. I have a great husband and a beautiful 13 year old daughter at home right now. I am joining this challenge because I am very worried about my husbands weight problem. He actually may weight 400 lbs and he's told me if I'll cook healthier he'll eat healthier. I am working on my health / weight as well ... and we all know what a teenagers diet can be like lol. So I can't wait to get started with the challenges!

Hi! I am Reyhne, and I have a husband and two stepchildren.

My main goals for this challenge are to get my stepchildren playing outside more, and to get my husband to eat regular meals. If I am not home-he does not eat!

Hi, my name is Brian and have been married for eight years. I have three daughters, Mikayla,5, Olivia,3, and Abbie,1. I joined this team because we need some help becoming more healthier and active as a family. We almost always eat dinner at the dinner table, but my oldest daughter, still has the sweet tooth and she is my picky eater, but a very active little girl. I want us to get healthy and active as a family.

Hello everyone;

My name is Barbara, married with two children. A 10 year old son at home and an 17 year old daughter who is finishing her college program in Florida. My son is very active but I have to push him to eat fruits and veggies. Even though my daughter is not home with me I am hoping that by making these changes here at home I can pass them on to her and she will embrace them. The true challenge in this makeover will be my husband, he has no interest in getting healthy.

Hi everyone, I'm Chris and I am married with 2 children (2 daughters) that are 2 and 4. I'm lucky because at the moment the girls aren't interested in the tv so much. I'm trying to make sure I do more with the girls as far as making a better example for them and teaching them better habits as far as staying active and eating healthier.

Hi all, thought I would give this a shot. From the west coast, married, have a son at home and a daughter in college. My son is very active and no weight issues, but he loves junk food and I'd really like to see him eat more fruit and veges!!

Hopefully this will give me a few more ideas. And I can pass them along to my daughter!
