Hi, I'm Pat, from Frederick, MD. I am not new to Spark People, but dropped out for a few months. I have a lot of stress, so hopefully this team will help me. I also have alot of health problems, which leads to alot of my stress. I have learned one stress technique from my Therapist. I practice EFT - which stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, which involves, tapping with your fingers on Accupuncture meridian points, saying what you are bothered about at that time, anger, feelings, etc. on -- anything that bothers you at that particular time, not only expressing what you are stressed about, but also expressing positive affirmations about your problem. It helps me! emoticon

Hi, my name is Ronda and I do find myself eating alot when I'm stressed out. I try not letting stress run my life by staying as positive as I can. But when I sit down to do the monthly bills, it's hard to stay positive, especially when it come to the medical bills. I had a total knee replacement surgery this past May and I recently found out that my insurance company did not pay for any of it. Stuff like that triggers my need to eat. I can, however, say that we have been keeping healthier snack alternatives, fruits and veggies but my husband still insists on buying several cases of soda pop almost every weekend and that is the one thing I haven't been able to totally cut myself off from, but I have cut back on the amount I drink. So yea, I really need help in controlling my stress levels.

Hi! I am Annie, divorced mom to two preteens (wait, is that supposed to be stressful?). My job is an emotional roller coaster! I have the accountability and the responsibility without the authority. Absent owners, one of them is nuts. He is either calling at 2am with great new ideas for the business (yes, I let it go to voicemail) or is screaming and firing someone. The other one is super nice, but the first one undercuts everything she tries to do. Yes, I love my coworkers and what I do....but if good jobs weren't so scarce (unemployment in this county slowly coming down from its high of over 17% a while ago) I would be outta there! I have packed on over 50 pounds in the last five years, mostly stress and emotional eating. It is time to take care of myself!

Hello! My name is Tammy. I am first of all a care giver to my mom who has Alzheimer's or dementia or something like that. My father, who's health isn't all that great (don't tell him though) is here too. He watches my mom while I am at work. My brother and his boyfriend also live here. They cause much of my stress. They are critical of everything I say and do. I've been told by a family member that she thinks they have put a camera in their room because they think I am snooping through their room. They leave the house a mess then I have to clean it up. If I ask for help they say they do alot around the house and how dare I ask this question. They are both currently unemployed so they are home all the time! emoticon

Hello, everyone! My name is Jenna. I'm glad to see, reading through other posts, that I am not the only one who has tried this before and fallen off the wagon, only to come back and try again. This time, I would really like to make becoming healthier and stress-free a priority.

Currently, I am 24 years old and a teacher in South Dakota. I love my job, but as a high school English teacher, it is never-ending. I teach 6 different classes a day, and see around 95 students a day--which makes for quite a lot of prep and grading work. It's not uncommon for me to work 10-15 hours a day, and yet I still never seem to catch up.

My stress levels tend to run high, and I know that it's not easy on myself or my husband (bless his heart for putting up with me!) when I'm stressed out all the time. So, my hope is that being healthier and getting some exercise will help with my stress levels. I'm glad that I found this group, because I think that in something like this, support is important. Maybe that's why I've fallen off the SparkPeople bandwagon in the past--I didn't reach out to other members for support. I'm also hoping to find some tips to help me learn to manage my stress. So, here's hoping!

Hi,

I tried Spark People earlier this year after starting to regain a significant weight loss. I didn't stick with it and today I am giving it another try. The first time, I didn't look for the support from other members, but I have realized that I need support. After losing 89 pounds over three years, in less than one year I have gained 50 pounds back. This has been a very stressful year and so far I am not coping very well. Looking forward to finding a positive way forward.

Susan

Hi everyone. I joined this forum ahwile ago but I have been away from SparkPeople for a while. I am gaining great motivation from the site and the book-The Spark. I can't put it down.

I have had a lot of stress in my life but I am chipping away at it. I believe in being positive always and acting as if.

Glad to be here.

Joanne

Peace.

Hi All !
My name is Janet and I,m in my third week of SparkPeople and am still getting used to navigating around the site.
This is going to be a great challange for me because I always seem to be at high stress. Most of it is going through "the change" so I'm learning to deal with the highs and lows of the hormone swings.
Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!
Good Luck Everyone!

Hello everyone my name is ALicia I have tried this a few times. I have been very up and down with my weight loss and my stress. I have looked for ways to cope with these issues. I have been medicated to help with my stress levels. I have a wonderful life. I have an amazing family. I have a daughter who is 5 my step daughter who is also 5, and my son who is 7. I have a wonderful man I will be happy to marry in a year. I have been through some things in my short life but would like to be able to control the stress I keep contained in myself. I am hoping to find ways to help me relax a little more and hoping this makes a positive impact on my relationships with friends, and family.

Every day is a fresh start, never give up and don't quit!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Mary. I'm 42, married with kids living in northeast Ohio. I joined this challenge to see if I can do anything about my tendency to procrastinate, cause myself all kinds of problems and then stress out about the problems I've created.

All in all I have a great life. Loving family, rewarding job, etc. I just need to rein myself in a little bit and get some control over how I spend my time. It is causing me all sorts of messes that are harder to clean up than just doing it right in the first place.

So, that's my story. Hello to all you sparkpeople!

Hi everyone!

My name is Ashley. I'm not new to Spark, this is my 3rd or 4th or so time back. The first time I came to spark was back in 2006 or so and I was losing weight because I was a little overweight and out of shape. I got pregnant right after my wedding in 2007 and became the highest weight I'd ever been. I got all the way back down to the weight I was the first time with Spark, again. But unfortunately I developed IBS and major back pain and my weight just went up, up, up. I tried to get back on Spark, but wasn't motivated because my back pain was too bad. So here I am again!

I suffer from depression and anxiety, so stress seems to be a major topic for me. Money woes are common and stress of being a mom to a child with Autism is also quite difficult. So here I am to kick stress' butt!

Hi everybody, This is a great idea! I'm 72 and have not been exercising before. So, I started with an Abdoer, and just today I ordered the 28 day boot camp, and a light resistance cord with DVD. This totally cracks me up. I saw someone say they wanted to get back to who they used to be. Not me, I am creating a whole new integrated me!

If someone told me a few weeks ago what I'd be doing today, I'd fall over laughing. The Beginner's routine is easy now, but the next level is way beyond me...so I'm daring to reach out to try new things at a level which I can do...without any should's to talk me out of it.

Personally, I'd say that SparkCoach is a great stress buster, right up front, since I don't get lost in trying to navigate this busy site. This is very exciting & stimulating, and I delighted to say: "Keep on Sparkling, ReeGee

Hello: My name is Deborah and I am working at a busy job, am a wife, a mom, and a nana to two beautiful grandchildren. I also volunteer at work and at my church and sometimes it just seems there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything. I have a sense of responsibility that sometimes is a blessing and at other times. I have begun to learn how to say no but still need help with that. Some of my family members are ill right now and need special attention. But soon they will be well. We have an upcoming (January 2013) family challenge that we will all have to face. But when you are together you can do it. Team work! And my faith helps me - I do not know what I would do without it! I am sending out a big cheer to all who are participating in this challenge. I have heard it say, that we place too much stress upon ourselves and yet we attribute it/feel that it is coming from the outside. What do you think about that?

Ann

Hello!
I'm JJ, I'm a student and am recently new to sparkpeople. I joined this group to find methods to deal with my stress. I think I deal with stress in a negative way and it really effects me when it gets to be too much. I am hoping this challenge will give me tips on how to work with stressful situations.

Hi. I'm Shelly. I've been a stay at home Mom for the past 3 years. I'm 41, and have 3 daughters, ages 7, 4, and 2. My family is my biggest source of both joy and stress. It is difficult for me to find balance. I joined this challenge in order to develop more healthy ways of dealing with stress daily, so that I can be more centered, calm, and joyful.

HI, My name is Jessica and I am a 24 year old female suffering from "chronic stress". I produce to much coritzol, or stress hormone, (3x's at last check) and have been struggling with this for the last 6 years of my life, but within the last year i have not only seen my health deteriorate bur my weight blossom causing my mental health to nose dive. I am looking for ways to tie in stress relief, weight loss, and a healthy lifestyle change in a way that will benefit me for a healthier lifestyle all around and where better to go than my beloved sparkpeople. I look forward to getting started.

Hi, I'm Dianne from Wyoming. My stress comes from being many things for many people. I'm a mom, grandma & wife & work full time. My husband is permanently disabled & I am his caretaker. We have 2 adorable dogs who sometimes are great stress relievers, sometimes not. I have been on a journey to improve my health and lose weight for a year & have slowly lost 40 lbs. so far, about half of that since joining Sparkpeople. I'm hoping to learn how to better manage the stress in my life and continue to become more healthy. Having a team to share the road will be great!

Hi my name is Liza and I am 38. I am a mom to a 20 year old and almost 13 year old (both girls) and married more than 21 years to a man who keeps me on my toes.

Up until I joined this spark team I thought that I was over-stressed and burdened with problems but reading just a few of the intros posted here I realize that I am a normal person with everyday hiccups in their life that doesn't remember how to manage life's varied problems.

I look forward to committing to this journey with all of you and I am so glad that Sparkpeople exists to help bring us all together!

But let it be known that I do try my best at everything, everyday!! Sometimes, I just need some help, motivation, and friends. lol. I sometimes find myself loving life 1 day, and simply hating it the next. I am new to this spark thing and I am hoping that it can help me...with stress, and encouragment to my weight loss goals of course!!

Hi, my name is Cate and I am a full time student in health administration/sciences along with working full time. I have a very busy schedule and not much time to myself, and I take on way to much than I can handle sometimes. I'm the type of person who likes to try and fix other people's problems and that starts to weigh on me a lot. I am here because I want to educate myself on how to control my stress and what I can do to prevent it.

Hi, my name is Emily. I'm 24 and a full-time student at Carrington College and currently going for my Associates in Medical Assisting. I'm engaged, though we have agreed not to set a date until I'm done with the M.O.M program at school. At the moment I'm taking care of my dad who spent 2 weeks in ICU at the beginning of August. He refuses to do any of his exercises or even fill his own prescriptions, relying fully on me. I already don't get along with my father so this forced time together is making things more stressful. I'm looking for a second job just so I can get out of the house for at least 8hrs a day. Between looking for a second job, looking after my dad, taxiing my brother around, cleaning houses for close friends, and spending time with my best friends and my love, I feel so worn out that i can't even get enough energy to lay out in the sun. I'm hoping this stress challenge helps as school starts in a week.

Hi, my name is Cassie. I'm 24 years old and currently a full-time student in undergraduate chemistry. Since I also work 3 jobs currently, the stress level is pretty high for me for these couple of months. For a long time, the lap pool (and competition swimming) has been my stress outlet. But, now that I have next to no time during the day (while the gym is open), I have been finding it increasingly difficult to find ways and times to channel out my stress. I'm hoping to learn to ease the stress so I can remain healthy for the remainder of my time in school and hopefully learn to better incorporate stress relief into my everyday life from here on out.

Hello, My name is Crystal. I'm 35 (single mom) with a teenage daughter struggling with an emotional disability. I've had trouble finding the right therapist for her for years. Which makes me feel like a horrible parent. I think we have finally found the right one=)
My whole family has struggled with weight, depression, money issues for as long as I can remember. Which has always made me feel vulnerable and stressed.
I am self employed and love my career. I know I'm the best in the area at what I do and I offer a great service for my clients. However I'm highly stressed as a business owner because of all that I dont know.
Hoping to learn and share in this group.

Hello, Im Jessica and this is my 5th alter ego with Sparkpeople. I felt it was necessary because after losing 40 lbs earlier this year (Jan-Apr) with Spark, I fell off the wagon. I went from 216 to 224.8 where I started back up this week. Now my ultimate goal is to hit 160, but I want to eat better, lose the stress, and reduce the to-dos on my to-do list of life. Which as a mother, volunteer, employee, business owner, wife, sister, etc (we all wear many hats), the list is never ending. I am looking for supportive friends, who wont hesitate to kick my butt!

Find me on facebook too facebook.com/rainnnaturelover

I look forward to learning from this team, and being done with losing weight. Some day Id like to simply focus on maintaining it.

Hi, I am Glynis and I live on the South Coast of New South Wales in Australia. I have six children, four grandchildren, have just finished a long stint of casual teaching on a very difficult Kindergarten class .I have just moved my 86 year old father down to live closer to my family here and I live with constant stress. I am a perfectionist,I like order but tend to have to live in a certain amount of chaos because I am the one who needs order but others in the family don't care. I worry about my relationship with people all the time. I need to put myself first but am not sure how to do that. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and need to lose a lot of weight. I need to learn how to manage stress better rather than stress managing me!

Hey y'all!

I'm Lisa. Wife, mom, librarian, teacher, daughter, and friend. And stressed. My family has had quite a few big crises over the last few years and I have both a mom and son with chronic illnesses. I don't know that I've ever learned to manage stress well. I spent a lot of my adult life trying to eat it away before it ate ME away, but I'm ready to be done with that. I joined Weight Watchers in January and have lost almost 50 pounds, but I still feel incredibly stressed by life in general. Not depressed and not anxious -- just stressed.

So here I am. I'm glad you're doing this challenge. I think it will be good for me.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well. -- Julian of Norwich

Hey everyone!

I'm Melanie and I am from Illinois. I am just starting this Stress Busting Challenge because I live in a high stress environment. I recently moved back home from living in Arkansas. It's been a struggle because I do not get a lot of alone time when I am at home because there are 4 other adults and 3 four year old children in a five bedroom house.

Outside of home life, I am also in between jobs. My career is working in college residence halls, but I missed many of the searches that may have already gone on. That being said, my career is high stress because there is always some sort of crisis and there are many things we are expected to do outside of the normal 9-5 work hours.

All this being said, I started my blog as both a fitness journal and a stress journal so that I can start forming those healthy habits.

Woot! Go team!

Hi, Everyone! I'm a little late with my introduction since I started the challenge last week, but I'm still in the process of getting everything "set up." My spark page is set up, I've commented on some blogs, and I started my stress journal on my own blog. I'm in the swing and find spending time on SP a much better use of my spare time than eating.

I think I was born stressed, and for many many years I sort of thought it was something to be proud of. Things were accomplished, but many roses were not smelled along the way. My weight gain started when I quit smoking about 15 years ago...big surprise, but it wasn't until the last year or two that I realized the role stress/perfectiontionism/lack of sleep was playing in my inability to lose weight. I know I will not conquer obesity unless I can learn to be kinder to myself, and it's time to begin.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Hi I am Ruthie. I live in NJ, have been married 38 years and love to take pictures.
I have lived with overwhelming chronic stress for the past two and a half years. My daughter was hospitalized twice two years ago for mental issues. SHe is bipolar among several other diagnoses. SHe is 32 years old, divorced her husband a year ago and abandoned her son (who will be 9 next week).
SHe blames everyone else for her issues and behaviors. SHe is extremely nasty and abusive to me in particular.
My husband and I have done everything we can to help raise our grandson along with our son in law. Fortunately the grandson is doing amazingly well, except for abandonment issues.
At my last dr visit, I had gained weight, my BP was way up and my bad cholesterol (for the first time in my life) was too high. My dr told me I have to take steps to reduce my stress. I am happy to have found this team.

Blessings,
Ruthie
