Hi, I'm Amethyst and I do believe I have gone and lost my mind. But it feels good to have a tangible goal to work towards! I signed up for the 5k walk. Watch out world...here I go! emoticon

Good Morning... my name is Amy. I just sign up to walk one mile. I have never trainer / did anything like this. It seems like it could be fun. I am very excited to be here.

Hi everyone! I am happy to have found this program...a little late to the game though! I am hoping to successfully do a 5K Heart walk on September 22nd to honor my Dad who passed away August 31, 2011, and a 5K Diabetes walk in November to honor my Mom who passed away November 28, 2011.

I miss them both very much and I know that they would be very proud of the efforts I am making to improve my health, and to honor them by completing these 5K events would mean so much to me.

Hi, I'm Andi. I've been a SP member for years, but the on-again, off-again type. Now I'm back ON! This time I'm using Spark Coach for added motivation. I recently had knee surgery (torn meniscus) in July, and I wanted to get back into the Couch to 5k program, but I'm not ready for running yet, so I thought I'd try this team out!

Hi, I'm a on-again, off-again dieter, mostly off. Since my heart attack in June, I've been determined to get my excess baggage off and STAY off, so I began walking 3 or 4 weeks ago. Every year in August, the weekend b4 the kids start their next school year, our town sponsors a 5k run/walk for the active and not-so-active. I've wanted to do this with my daughters, but it has never happened. Next year I've told my family, I WILL be entered in it & finish it! Also, I would like to try to run 1/2 of the way. Think a 65 yr. old can actually accomplish this?

Hi, I'm Jasmine and I've been on SP for awhile but have seriously slacked. Today a friend of mine did a 12K and asked me to do it with her next year. Wow! I'm terrified. So I said yes, and went straight to SP, knowing I would find what I need here. So here I am. Today I start walking and in a year I'll do a 12K, possibly still walking but I'll do it!

Hi I'm Springtime. I've been a member of SP for some time, was active and then fell out of it. I've been back tracking my food and really need to get back into exercising.

I'm probably going to be starting on Sat or Sun.

Hi! I just started Week 1, Day 1 of the walking program today! Goal is to be able to get thru all 4 programs. 0.87 miles today in 15 minute. Not a bad way to start for my first day :)

Hi, I am reading The Spark and it has made such a difference. Then I saw this Walking Program and decided to give it a try. I would love to be able to run but I'd be just as happy to walk a 5K. I am just getting started, today is my first day officially, and I walked this morning. When should I sign up for a race? It wouldn't be an actual race but just me walking 5K hopefully and prayer-fully emoticon
Thank you so much for all the encouragement. I can't wait to really get going now. I've not been this excited and motivated about getting healthy so thank you again and again!

Hi. My name is Jen. My husband and I just registered for a 5K for the Melanoma Research Foundation. We're walking in honor of my dad who has Stage IV Melanoma. When I was younger I participated in many CROP Walks (which are 10K) and we used to do the Komen Race for the Cure, but I have a problem with my knees and we had to stop. This will be my first 5K in about 8 years. The 5K is Sept 16, so I have enough time to get ready. And because it's for a cause so close to my heart, I am highly motivated...and I am excited to have a SparkTeam to help me STAY motivated!

Hello! I actually had joined up for the "5K Rookie Walk/Run" program but hadn't done anything. I'm starting tomorrow to get a fitness program going, and discovered this group... which is probably much more realistic for me. Get the walking down first, *then* worry about running. I don't have any walks or anything to participate in, but I'll look for some or do a virtual one when the time comes.

I'm Bel. I live in MN. I want to do C25K, but it seems my body isn't quite ready for that, so I'm starting here. I used to walk a lot, but it seems a mile is all I'm up for at the moment, so I'll work my way up and work on my speed and be able to walk a 5k before I start trying to run one!

Hi all,

My husband and I are preparing to begin "trying" for kids when school starts in Sept. I still would like to lose some more weight and stay healthy during the pregnancy. So, what could be easier and healthier than walking!

Hi,
My name is Lynn, and this seemed to be a great place for me to stay motivated. Walking is the best place for me to start because I use a wheelchair and the exercise program I've been doing has been walking in a pool and when I'm in my wheelchair, I use my feet to propel myself.

Hi Lisa,

I was just in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and missed being in the area ( at least during the summer months). I did quite a bit of walking since I left my car in Homewood, IL, while we visited my daughter's grandmother on Lake Shore (absolutely no parking there). It was different to walk to the store and to restaurants. We walked somewhere everyday and even went ot Millenium Park and visited the Art Institute. I saw all of that to say you are in a good place to walk. I live in NC where you really have to drive to get anywhere. There is nothing in walking distance. Good luck with your goals!!

Hello, I just need some guidance and motivation to get started. Kathryn, I loved your analogy.

It is very stressful to come up a good sign off. Right now everything that comes to mind is cheesy or snarky. So, respect to everyone with a good signature. One day I will find mine.

Hello,

I'm Kathryn. I joined this challenge because I feel my Summer motivation dripping away like an ice cream cone on a hot day. I intend to do my training on a treadmill at the gym where it's cool. The treadmill even has a 5K program which makes it easy.

Hi, I'm RoAnne, 39 years old and trying to get back to a healthy weight before I turn 40 next May. A few years ago I was in really good shape and I did a walk/run 5k. I was so proud of myself. For the first time in my life I felt like an athlete, but then I fell off the wagaon and now I'm about 75 pounds heavier. I need to get back into shape and my first step is to be able to just walk a 5k and then train to run in one again.

Hi, Willow, yes, one can learn forever here at SparkPeople, it's a really wonderful site I don't get tired of. Lots of ideas and energy.

I joined this team/race yesterday; it fits in well with my next doctor's appointment (July 20) and with my avowed interest in being able to walk a mile or two easily by February when I go do research in the Caribbean with my researcher from London.

I was in London in September/October of last year and the amount of walking those people do. Eek! I lost 5 pounds just being there for a week! The Caribbean island I'm going to, we'll be downtown, less than 1-1/2 miles from the archives so walking to/from looks likely rather than taking expensive cabs or renting a car.
