Hi Everyone,

My name is Stefanie and I use to be a very avid athlete, my fav being Track and field. I was a jumper and a sprinter. I always wanted to be able to run the long distances but could never get motivated enough to do so. Anyway, I eventually got married and had 2 beautiful little girls and I am on a mission to get the "me" back.
I had throat surgery and leg injections last November/December 2010 (I joined spark shortly afterwards) and tried running on an old treadmill my inlaws gave us, and I couldn't believe my lung capacity and how awesome it was again as well the back of my leg was no longer hurting anymore either. I was thrilled.
So I thought to myself that i would start to run again, then I came across the SP 28 day bootcamp, I did that instead along with the Golds Gym Dance workout for wii. Then half way through the 28 day bootcamp I came across this challenge and I have been looking forward to starting it ever since, but i had to finish the bootcamp challenge first.

So anyways today was my first day and I made it through the whole 20 minutes, jogged each one of the 4 minutes and felt great. I am hoping that i will be able to build up endurance and run my first 5 k with an awesome sprint near the finish line, well thats my goal, when the 8 weeks are finished.

Woot feeling good.

Welcome to the team!

Novablue, you don't have to have a race picked out to be a member, it's just a program to start you running and you do it at your own pace. You can pick a race (or never pick one) anytime you want.

Hi everyone , its really great to see i'm not the only novice when it comes to running. Ive never really enjoyed running, whenever I could avoid it I did. But when I decided to join the virtual running challenge for the week of April8-17. I realized it was time to stop being scared if the treadmill, and learn to love it. I'm on week one and let me just say I think I may be a runner at heart. I didn't realize I would like running so much, granted the first day was hard , but It made me want to do better the next day and the next. Now im ready for the challenge of week 2 and it feels amazing. Not only do I feel stronger but a guy friend asked me if I was a runner because I have sexy legs lol,( I love wearing shorts now to show off my legs as well). I guess running has givin me a huge confidence boost as well. So if you are struggling , hang in there because it will become easier with time.

Hey Fellow Rookies,

I completed most of the C25K program this past fall and participated in my first 5K in November. It was the Free to Breathe 5K event to raise money for lung cancer awareness and cure. I decided to do it to honor the memory of my father who died from lung cancer in May 2010.

Once the weather got cold, I gave up on going out to run. I don't have a treadmill, yet, so I tried doing the Wii Free Run indoors. That didn't work out so good for me, so I eventually just stopped running.

Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, I'm ready to get back outside and try running once more. My goal is to complete the program and run the whole way during my next 5K. Unfortunately, I did have to take a few short walking breaks during my first 5K.

I'm signed-up to do my Virtual 5K the week of April 10 - April 16th. emoticon

Note: I'm a 42 yo mother of three.

Hi! My name is Jennifer. I'm 42 and live in Southeast Missouri. I've wanted to "be a runner" for many years. My father used to run when I was in high school and it amazed me. I'm tired of being a couch potato and I'm working on a new me.

Hi, my name is Sherrie, I'm 53 and I joined the team last thursday but my first workout was Saturday. I was a runner ages ago in high school and I want to run again because my kids run. I also have a small issue with one knee, but I'm discovering that the mechanics of running don't bother me as much as trying to walk fast. Go figure. Lori, I think this is the right place. Eight weeks from now is april and if we can keep on schedule, we should be able to do this.

Hi, my name is Lori. I'm 51, work full time and just want to get fit!! I have a considerable amount of weight to lose, but have always wanted to be able to run. Now that I've joined, I'm not sure I'm in the right place...is this for people who have a race planned for April? I just started W1D1 yesterday.

Hi! My name is Erin. I joined this program to help me lose the last 20 pounds of baby weight I gained with my first son. I started running in 2005 and have completed 4 half marathons as well as a couple 5ks. I have struggled with getting back into running since having my son in January 2010. Hopefully this program will get me back into running 3 miles consistently. Good luck everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Emily, I'm a 34 year old living in Montana. I've never entered a race with the intention of jogging/running, and I'm so excited about this! My current ability is that I can just barely huff and puff through a mile. I'm doing the 5K running plan for rookies and am starting week 2.

Good luck to everyone!!

Hey folks,

I'm new to running, but this challenge came at a great time, when I'd already started the Couch to 5K training program. It's even more motivating to know that so many people are going through it with me, as well as having that deadline in April.

Best of luck everyone

Hi Everyone!
My name is Karyn. I initially joined the walk/jog team but after looking at the different programs, I decided that if I was going to be walking and running pretty much the same for the first two weeks, I might as well stick it out for the eight weeks and become a runner (I use that term loosely). The weather is becoming too nice to stay inside here so I'm ready to go!

Hi everyone
My name is Mary, and this is a great challenge for me since during the winter and spring months I use the treadmill. The sidewalks are too icy, and it's a little chilly outside. I'm not that great a jogger on icy sidewalks, and the treadmills are perfect. Hope to get a lot of support from this team.

Hi everyone - I just turned 47 and have 2 5k's under my belt. I walked both of those and on Memorial weekend I am doing the Wounded Warrior 8K and I want to run it. I have joined the virtual race in May. I have not been fit since my 20's. Last April I decided to change my life style and get fit. I am 12 pounds short of my goal. I love the idea of being a runner. 3 months ago I could barely walk 2 miles now I am doing 3.10 everyday. Need to kick it up!

I live in FL, married 16yrs and have 2 school age boys and another son 28.

HI all. My name is Sheila. I am 52 years old and I am from western Massachusetts. I have never run before, except in pe in high school. I threw up the last time I ran. I never thought of myself as a runner... but Spark has changed me... (See my blog from 2/12). I signed up for a C25K at the local Y to see if maybe I could become a runner... my husband runs... I have arthritis in my hips....and I am not sure I can do this... But I am sure I can try... I am going to take this process slowly but surely.... to increase my chance of success.... I am really thankful for Coach Nicole's VIDEO: 10-Minute Stretching Routine for Runners.... it has helped me... and I appreciate the interval training ideas... because I cannot run for any length of time at this point. I have been active and work out frequently... but running is a big step for me...

Wishing you well, Sheila

Hi! My name is Sandi. I'm 21 and a Chemistry senior in Chicago. I've never been much of a runner (unless you count playing tag as a kid). I'm not new to exercise, but I'm new to running. I wanted to change up my workout, so I thought it would be a fun challenge to work at being able to run continuously!

afternoon everyone,

I used to be runner, than I injured my hip, and haven't run in months. I have been cleared to start running, but need a gentle way to start. This seems like a really good way to start. I did my first run yesterday, and I am really looking forward to the rest of the program!

Hi! I am one of those people who would never run unless chased! I've never considered myself a runner and wasn't really interested in running until I started to get back in shape recently.

I signed up for my first 5K - to be run on May 1. I want a program that will help me gradually increase my endurance so I am not walking the entire race! I got my husband to sign up for the 5K too, now I just have to convince him to run instead of walk emoticon

Hi Everyone my name is Lori and I live in Davenport Florida. I have been looking for something new to challenge myself and I am hoping this is it. One of these years I want to go back home to MD and run the Marine Corp Marathon so I am hoping this will be great prep for me and inspire me to run/jog.

Hi everyone! My name is De and I live in the Chicagoland area. A friend emailed me this morning and asked if I was doing the Spark into Spring 5k. I had no clue what is was so I checked it out. I finished the 28 day boot camp back in January and am currently doing it again, but I have been looking for a new challenge. And I ended up here! I have been wanting to do a race for some time, but all the ones I find have a ridiculous sign up fee that I can't handle. I love the idea of a virtual race and glad I found a new challenge. Since I have never ran more than 1.5 miles before (and that was years ago) I signed up for this program. I am looking forward to making progress and achieving a 5k!

Hi! I'm Andrea, I'm 54, and part of my bucket list is to run a 5k by my 55th birthday. I have 5 months until that date. I started the C25K but my first week in I developed a sinus infection, I then received the email about the Spark program and the virtual 5K. This program looks more doable for me, at least to start. I am still on medication so probably will not get to start it until next week sometime. Oh, and there is a local 5k here on July 4th, 3 days before my bday, I'm signing up for it! emoticon

Hi, my name is Sara. I am 22 from IA. I am joining this group not only because I am trying to get healthy and lose weight but also because I want to do better in a 5K. Two or three years ago I did an earth day 5K and pretty much came in last. That did not make me feel good about myself at all. This year I'd like to do much better at the 5K that is almost exactly 8 weeks away. I also want to do the Susan G Komen walk for a curr 5k this fall in honor of my grandmother who passed away from breast cancer. I want to honor her by being in good shape and doing well at the 5K.

Hi, I'm Kelli from MO, 28, married, mom to a 5yr old, work fulltime with an hour commute one way. Never been much of a runner but my best friend runs and I think it would be awesome to go for a run with her the next time I see her. I just found out there's a 5k at the lake not far from my house April 9. I printed the flyer and I'm seriously thinking about signing up. Not sure if I should though since I'm just starting out. Never been in a race before.

Hi there! My name is Casi. I am a 27 year old first time mom, wife, teacher and graduate student. My life is really full, but I'm excited to add this training and 5K to my plate. This will be my 2nd 5K. I'm doing one in March for a fundraiser for my school. I am definitely not a runner...well, yet anyway. But I am ecstatic for the opportunity to accomplish this and to get healthier! :)

I'm Martha,
I've been thinking about starting a running program for awhile now..when the email describing this new race appeared in my inbox it seemed like a sign. So I signed up. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to run in NE Ohio in Feburary! And I need a watch or some way to keep track of the minutes...and I need some shoes...and I need to get started today, so I'd better get busy!

I'm really excited for this program! I've tried Couch to 5K in the past but the intervals were too difficult for me, especially when I got to weeks 4 and 5. I'm hoping this program will be more doable for me!

Hi - I'm excited about this program. I just decided last week that I was going to push myself to run a 5k in a few weeks & then I found this! I do crossfit 3 times a week & love it, but still need more cardio & want to get down more pounds! I've lost 4-5% in body fat with crossfit, and that is great, but want more!!

Hi everyone! I am like all of you...not a runner! I frequently take my dog for walks and have recently been pondering throwing in some running, but have been afraid that I would fail. Then I got the SP email talking about the 5k race coming up in April. I asked myself what I was so afraid of and decided to give it a try. I'm only 21, I should be able to do anything I put my mind to. So I started today and my lungs felt they were about to bust! But with time and consistency I'm sure that will change. Other than that, it was wonderful!

Hello, My name is Shelly and I am 28 years old. I am excited to start this 5K. I will be running a 5K with obstacles and hope that this will help train me for that one. It should be a fun race as long as I'm not out of breath the whole race.
Shelly
