Back in September 2011 when I finally hit bottom I was 213 Lbs, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and I had also been told I was in the way to become diabetic. BB health insurance denied me for all this plus my age. Everything is normal now....except the age....LOL! But I can move and exercise like a much younger woman, better that I could 5 years ago.
I honestly thought I was cooking healthy until I started logging all my meals (don't get me wrong it was a challenge the first couple of weeks) but when I finally started writing everything that went in my mouth and started printing the reports to see how I was doing....WOW, what an eye opener that was.
As SP says start one small change at the time then add another and one more after that.
Do not focus on a "Diet" focus on a life style change to become healthy. Start eating healthy and increase a little fitness and you will see the results.
I have learned so much about nutrition, fitness and about my self with the help of this web site.
I'm going to tell you an example of how my day went today, I started the day as usual on Saturdays walking 4 miles with a couple of Spark friends (if you are close to the West Side or willing to come you are invited, we walk at the Jax - Baldwin Trail off of Commonwealth and near to I-295)
Send me an Spark mail if you are interested to finding out more.
After my walk I stopped by the Bank and went to fill a prescription for my granddaughter, between the wait in both places it was about 10:15 or 10:30 and I was hungry....since I was by the pharmacy I started to look at the so call "healthy snacks", the so call protein had up to 9g of fat, then others had 15mg of sugar (anything under 5 is healthier) I decided it was not worth putting that in my body, before I left the store went by the produce found some small bananas I bought a couple and ate one on my way home. Since my granddaughter was sick since yesterday I made a pot of veggie soup last knight, I had a bowl, that and the small banana was my snack.
I went out again running errands and when I got hungry again, I was looking for a Subway but couldn't find one were I was and the nearest I knew of was out of my way....so I stopped at a Publix in my way, went to the deli got a whole wheat 6" veggie sub, asked the lady to take all the inside of the bread, ask for little mustard and packed with veggies, with an unsweetened tea.
Two years ago I would had not made those choices and feel as good as I do now.
We can motivate you and encourage you to do good.
But ultimately you are the one that have to take control of the steering wheel and keep moving forward.
Good luck in your journey and keep in touch, we all need each other to help out when the weakness are too strong to bear.
