Hi my name is Melanie. I'm the mother of a 19 year old daughter and a 30 year old stepson. I work in a high school special education classroom where the children have various disabilities. Spark people has taught me that changing your lifestyle helps keep the weight off instead of just dieting. I've been trying by myself for years with no progress to show for it. Started Sparkpeople in 2011 and left for several years as my life was a mess. Now I'm back and ready to do this.

Hi I am Jen. 37. 3 kids 10 year old girl, 13 year old girl and a soon to be 15 year old boy. My weight loss has been on a steady uphill climb since my last successful spark adventure back in 2007 when I lost 55 pounds. I have had some serious life upset since then and well it went straight to my hips (and my rear). Getting healthy is always the thing I whine the most about. It is time to just do it!

Hi, I am Lesley. I am 52, married with 2 grown boys It is time to start focusing on me and not them. I have been sparking for about 4 years on and off. This time I am more committed to staying the course and looking for maintaining my motivation through sparking. I love teams that keep me active on the site, because I seem to be more accountable. Looking forward to being a part of your team!

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomfort.

Hi There! Thank you so much! emoticon I understand, my friend. Actually, I couldn't have done this after I got hit by a car, but I kept moving, and this summer, I haven't been able to get out in the heat much, as I tend to pass out with atrial fibrillation. But I do a lot of dancing around the apartment and in the kitchen. I use a lot of youtube videos and zumba dances. I don't do them perfect, but I just move my body and do a lot of "free style" movement, and just enough where it moves the pedometer. hee hee I feel any kind of movement helps, and keeps me out of the hospital with heart conditions and thyroid disease. We can do it girl! Here's to rockin and rollin and taking it one minute at a time. You are an inspiration! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Patti---Welcome to the team. I have seen your post on the steps you take. You rock. I am lucky if I get 1200 steps in a day. Only twice I have reached 5000 since I purchased the fitbit in December. That was Christmas shopping I had 14982 and last Sat in Boston. I do move in the water and you don't wear the fitbit in the water though.

Hi! I am Patti, I keep going like a copper top battery! Woo Hoo! I had lost 50 pounds last year, but then got injured after getting hit by a car, and have had some family losses this year, and it has set me back a bit. But I am a very positive person, and believe that positivity spreads like wildfire! Woo Hoo! I love music and love just dancing to music in the kitchen, and walking. Moving forward and ready to rock! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Lou. Welcome to the team. I have led a pretty sedentary life too. I am disabled and it took me 23 months but I literally lost 1/2 of myself. My ortho Dr. prescribed aquatic exercise for me a couple years ago and I have been doing it since. i have become stronger and my pain has lessened a great deal. He wanted to do a TKR but I have been able to put if off so far with the supartz shots and the physical therapy in the water. I know I will eventually need both knees replaced but the longer I can put it off the better. I rent so can't have a garden, though sometimes work in my Mom's but I do love to read. James Patterson is my favorite author. I enjoy the Alex Cross series and the Women's Murder Club series the most. Good to have you on the team. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Everyone. I"m Lou. I'm 60, disabled (partial paralysis on left side) and have been Sparking since April 24. I've lost twenty pounds this year (8 before I joined SP) and my ultimate goal is to get down to 145-149. That's over seventy pounds away, and I have no idea how long it will take. So, my first goal is to reach One-derland, which I hope to do by Christmas. Meanwhile I"m working at fine-tuning my eating plan and making exercise a regular consistent part of my life. I'm finding exercise tough after spending several years being sedentary, but already I'm stronger and having less pain, which is motivating. I like books, music, gardening, cooking (well, some days I don't), and Sparking. The support I get here makes these life changes do-able. I only wish I'd joined sooner.

Hello! I'm JoEllen but I go by Jo. I've been on sparkpeople for a little of 3 years but I do really well for awhile and then fall off the wagon. I'm hoping that I can stick with it better this time. My first goal is to lose enough weight to feel comfortable in my shorts this summer, right now they are a little snug. I have 2 numbers in mind that I could like to hit. The first is 10 lbs away and the weight I was when I got pregnant with my first daughter. If I could be there by my birthday this year (8/20) that would be awesome. My second goal number is 20 lbs away and would be the weight I was when I got married. This is an open ended goal.

I've struggled with depression, anxiety, PTSD and emotional eating since high school and for the most part have it all under control but when one goes, they all go. Luckily not that often any more.

Things I enjoy are : playing with my kids, taking walks, hiking, shopping, traveling and Disney World (I'm a little bit of a Disney junkie)

Things I don't like are : judgemental people, arrogent people, liars, the feeling I get after I binge, constantly putting myself down, snakes and clowns.

My name is Shelley. I teach 4th grade & have been teaching for over 20 years. I recently became licensed to teach students needing intense intervention, focusing on students with autism, & am especially interested in non-verbal learners.

I want to lose weight to feel even better about myself! I lost about 40 lbs. 10 yrs ago, but a variety of health issues, and medications for those issues, have allowed the weight to creep back on so that I have put on nearly all that I've lost.
My school district, in conjunction with a local gym, gave us a terrific incentive for a membership so I've been taking fitness classes~ Pilates, zumba & yoga~ & the weight (and inches) are starting to come off!

Things I love: Healthy cooking, learning new things (currently taking ASL instruction), and zumba

Things I hate: Judgemental people, being too hard on myself

My name's Mary. I turn 60 a week from tomorrow.

I've struggled for years with major depression, massive overweight and mobility issues. I rejoined Weight Watchers last week, so I'm hoping to finally defeat the weight.

I love my kids, knitting, cooking, cooking shows, football, movies, and ANYTHING to do with Ireland!

I'm Barb. Today is my last day being 58 yrs. old! Time flies when you're having fun!

I joined SP in 2010 (Feb. 8). Have lost 100 lbs., but lost some of it prior to SP. Had lots of health issues, but mostly under control now with the weight loss.

My main goal is to maintain my weight. Reached my goal weight in July 2010, but went on to lose 20 more lbs., which I've maintained now for 2 yrs.

Being in maintenance, there is no end to it! so, no date-specific goals in that area.

Am working on balance, so doing things like T-Stands and one legged stands to improve. That again is an ongoing issue.

Sleep . . . have to work to get my 8 hrs. in, but have been going at it for almost a year and most time, it's not a problem now. Just have to keep it up.

Nutrition: Maintaining my habit of weekly menu planning adn getting the proper nutrition.

What do I like?

dancing
walking
hiking
biking
cooking
reading
socializing w/friends and family
gardening

What DON'T I like?

laundry
ironing
shoveling
weeding

Love is the root of all things good in life.
