"A small daily task, if it be really daily, will beat the labours of a spasmodic Hercules."
~ Anthony Trollope

This may be my new mantra. All my life I've lived with the illusion that I could make up for lost time. BTW, that was the logic that fueled my driving habits....as a consequence, only one more speeding ticket would have made me 'uninsurable', wake up girl! I said to myself. I'm probably lucky to alive and skate by serious injury.

I've always been an all or nothing person. Sounds ridiculous to post this thought where sensible people can see it!

Before I totally loose my audience, I found myself thinking I cannot exercise now because of the postoperative no weight bearing restriction.

Well I lost the 15 lbs before my foot surgery. Then I thought, if I lay around or sit around for 6 weeks or more, I'm going to be right back where I started. I began giving "think possible" a try and found I can work up a good sweat on the floor...no standing, walking or any pressure on that right foot!

I'm rambling on, but it's been very exciting learning to work around my limitations.

Yes! Back on my feet again. No more exercising like the baby crawling for the goal line. Start walkin baby!

Slowly but surely, moving in a better direction!

I would begin by trying to find 5-10 minutes to be active per day. then add time or segments of 10 minutes to where you are staying active 30 minutes or more.
I am sure you can do it with the help of all the awesome people who are regulars at SP.
Best wishes as your journey to better health continues emoticon

emoticon PHP5775 and emoticon back to SparkPeople and the team challenge...Nice to have you with us on the journey to a healthier lifestyle. emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Try looking through the Fitness Videos on here! There are some great short ones that you may be able to fit in during your work day - depending on your job. Also, if you have a desk job, what about getting one of those stationary pedelars to use at your desk during the day? Just a suggestion - my job actually won't let us use those "it's a distraction." I work customer service.

Syl, Hip pain is a killer. I have a matching set of hip prosthetics now but I had years of agony and no one could identify the problem. I felt like my life was over. But that's really a cop out so I decided to fight for my life. Good to remember....it's already a distant memory.

Well you just need to find activities that don't hurt. I'm finding things to do that don't require walking or standing right now because I'm on a no weight bearing restriction....right foot recovering from surgery. I got myself enough gumption to buckle down and loose some weight before the surgery....lost 15 lbs after thinking I would never lose another lb and keep it off.

It's a unique adventure because no one gives you a program that fits with physical limitations like these. Believe it! You can find something. emoticon

Don't waste a minute feeling bad about what you can't do though. emoticon

2PINE4U That info is really interesting. Right now I am unable to workout like I want because of bursitis in my hip. It hurts just to stand and walk. But I am only eating 1100-1200 cal. Stopped sugar two days ago. I hope to see a difference. I have struggled this afternoon with cravings and realized it was b/c I was too hungry before I ate lunch.

PHP a little exercise every day goes a long way!

A personal trainer at my health club told me years ago that weight management is 85% nutrition. Stumped me! When I started watching how many calories I burned off exercising I thought, "I can kill myself trying to work off the fat & sugar and not even come close."

I am learning that the whole picture makes the difference! Working on finding the right balance for my own healthy lifestyle.

You DO have a full plate! Me too, but like, today, I had off, so I had to run to the mall to pick up a couple of things and it's a HUGE mall so I purposely walked the whole thing just cuz I knew this would probably be my only excersize today. So, I logged 15 minutes of walking for something I had to do anyway. EVEN if I just run home for lunch and walk the dog for 10 minutes, I log it. If I'm sittin' around watching tv, I keep my free weights by the couch so it's easy to pick em up and do couple of reps on each arm. No big deal. Small stuff adds up!

Slow and steady wins the race!

I'm hoping Spark People with give me th spark I need to lose 50 pounds by next March. I started Weight Watchers several times but lose interest after a few weeks. I lost 35 pounds back in 2006 but have gained it back. This time, I want to finish and keep it off. My biggest challenge is exercise - I already get up at 5 am to go to work, and I have a twelve-hour day every week day. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!
