Thanks guys for your messages, tips and support.

One of my goals are to attempt to come off my evening only NPH basal insulin injections.
I can happily report that I am no down from 32 units to 20 units. My morning blood sugar count centers around 90.

So the first week went well. I also met my eat a small sweet treat (1 chocolate and 1 ice cream portion) once a week. I had 25g of darl chocolate and 50 ml of Ben and Jerry's.

I am going to have 1/2 of a small banana prevent my sugar going down to much on my 3 km walk followed by breakfast.

Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!

I am not sure of your current eating plan but my MIL who is diabetic moved to a vegan diet and has lowered her AC1 numbers as well as improving her over all energy.
you might look into this option.
Best wishes on your journey to better health

It's not about many times you fall down, but how many times you get up that counts. And you're here and up again. emoticon emoticon

Guess what GSEATON?!! We all mess up! It's part of our learning curve! Although you don't have to share with us why you messed up, it would be helpful to you to backtrack how you were feeling before you gave in to your weakness. Was it stress, powerlessness, deprivation? Examine what it was so that you can counter in the very near future. Don't you dare sit and wallow! On your feet soldier, it's a brand new day!

Kiss my pounds goodbye! I'm going DOWN baby!

I regularly fall off the wagon, badly!

I have learned that I have 2 options when this happen:

1) to let the guilt feeling pass - whats done is done! I start all over again.
2) to reward myself with a sweet treat (1 snickers bar, a portion of chocolate fudge cake, a portion of my favourite ice cream etc.) ONCE a week if I have been good or if my blood sugar levels are excellent or kept to my goals. This way I have something to look forward to and don't deny myself a treat.

Don't whip yourself to much - you can do it!

Welcome! Thank goodness, my Type II diabetes is controlled well w/diet. I hope that remains the case, which is a worry since I take some meds that have weight gain listed among their side-effects. If I eat ice cream, I feel very, very ill; so I don't risk it. Nor do I visit all you can eat dessert bars. Last time I made that mistake, I ended up taking my first ambulance ride!

Not worth it to feel bad, so fruit is pretty much as bad as I get! emoticon

Happy to have you amongst us! I'm also glad you want to eliminate insulin injections from your life! A worthy endeavor indeed. Since I've met people who can reverse their Type 2 Diabetes by adjusting their diet, you shouldn't be an exception. The question is how bad do you want it, and what are you willing to give up?

Anytime you wish to change old habits, you must be prepared to replace it with new habits. I suggest that you walk around with healthy replacement foods for the ones that you are yielding to now. Reacquaint yourself with fresh fruit and produce. Learn to savor them individually before you consider mixing them, that way you can truly identify what you like and dislike. Always keep what you like handy in order to avoid pitfalls.

I also wanted you to take a look at this article for more ideas.

It's almost been two weeks without (most) sugars and my side roll is decreasing. Who knew? I have more energy and my hot flashes are pretty much non-existent. I am making better food choices. While on sugar I would grab candies here and there; caramels to suck on, lollipops to pacify, hershey kisses to celebrate, yada yada yada. The trick for me was ridding my desk and my kitchen of the sweets. When I start tweaking I get a glass of water and count from 10 or 100 depending on the magnitude of the withdrawal. Day by day, hour by hour - that's my new motto! Thank you SparkTeam!!!

Hi,

I am a 51 year old guy living in Turkey. I am a Type 2 diabetic which uses tablets and a once a day insulin injection to control my blood sugar levels.

I suffer from a sweet tooth ... and it does not help my diabetes at all. I have joined this team to learn to control my sweet tooth as well as my blood sugar levels.

I hope if I do that I will be able to go off my insulin injections.

So, this is week one for me on Spark people. I aim to be here for a long time.

Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!
