SUZIWOLLMAN,
As I write this, I see from the count below your name that that was your only post on Spark People, number one.

So I do hope you come back. I am a type-2 diabetic, and in my opinion it is a slow burnout of the insulin system from excessive carbs. Type-2 diabetes is a slow decline, no one day when there is a sudden change. So every meal matters.

emoticon Suzi & emoticon to the keto team!

We have a lot in common! I had been doing water aerobics for 9 years -- and my degenerative back & arthritic knees were doing just fine, the only thing that had ever really helped my back pain. The my right knee went bonkers & I got sent to the ortho surgeon who said I need a complete knee replacement. I haven't been able to afford the copays so I haven't done the surgery yet. Which I hope is a good thing: now my PCP says he has a shot that will build up the cartilage so I won't need the surgery. I'm all for that!

And of course I've put on a lot of weight this year and a half that I couldn't do much of anything. So I'm hoping the keto WOE will take all that off, and more!

emoticon you, for paying attention to that prediabetes diagnosis! My doctor at the time mentioned it very casually, and I didn't pick up on it, so I didn't take any steps to prevent the slide into diabetes. Much better to be proactive, which I wasn't!

You've found the right place to get plenty of support & information, not to mention great keto recipes. Good luck on the surgery -- I hope it goes well and your recovery is as swift & pain-free as possible.

It's great that your physicians are all encouraging you in this direction. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We are here for support. I am assuming that you are going to start after surgery and are in the info stage.

Hi Suzi!!
We have a couple things in common...keto and TKR!! mine had severe complications..due to a prior surgery..its never happened before and i'm one of only 3 that had the prior experimental surgery, so it will never happen again..i'm sure you will breeze through!! but if you need someone to talk to while in recovery let me know!! I did everything everyone else does, just a little later in the game than expected.
You can do this..the first 3 days are a bit difficult then the cravings and hunger GO AWAY and you wont believe how easy keto is!!

Hi, there! I've been a member of Spark People for several years now, but never stuck with it. I was recently diagnosed as prediabetic, and I AM NOT GOING TO GET DIABETES! My cardiologist, PCP and kinesthesiologist all told me to eat a keto diet, and I want the support of all you guys to help me stay focused.

Next week I go in for a knee replacement surgery, but I'll be back in my deep water aerobics class as quickly as I can. (My osteoarthritis is bad. I've already had one hip and one femur replaced with titanium.)

I'd love to hear from y'all as you walk this journey with me!
