Welcome and i am a noobie too. I am starting week 2 today and down over 7.6 lb. Luckily, my husband and daughter joined me. The husband has been doing the food shopping lately and he shops for instant gratification than meal planning so it didn't take long to rid pantry of most carb foods. What was left like oatmeal, flour, sugar, was put into airtight containers. Since most of keto foods are fridge and freezer, there isn't much need to go into cabinets.

I have warned husband and daughter repeatedly that if they are not following carbs and kcal/fat percentage necessary that I don't want them on this diet with me. So yesterday, I found them counting carbs correctly but not the fat so I voted them off the island. They asked how to get back on board and I just told them to research the diet before they come to me for help. So last night I showed husband how to use SP to track macros and the percentage graph. Let's say he didn't like what he had to eat to get his percentages back on track. Hopefully it was a lesson learned for not tracking/logging and relying on memory.

to add in. i own a bakery. i make gingersnaps..and i have to tell you the amount of ginger in them is very tiny. i just looked for ginger tea recipes online..many use fresh gingerroot to steep, some use powdered ginger, but ALL of them have more ginger in a cup of tea than you would get in a cookie, let alone half a one.

I will try to cut out the 1/2 ginger snap. I was counting it with my under 20 carbs. Any suggestions with the gut thing? I just get nausous in the afyernoon. I know I need to start keeping track of proteins and calories but haven't yet. I think I may be taking in too much protein.

Hi Candi!

Here are the goals:
1. Not waste food
2. Not waste money
3. Be healthy

These can be competing goals. On point one, I grew up in a family where throwing away food was a sin. There were hungry people in the world somewhere, and in our abundance we were committing a sin by wasting food.

The second goal is to not waste money. Throwing out food is like throwing out money.

Lastly, the third goal is the goal of being healthy. Eating Keto is healthy, and your husband's dropping blood sugar shows that. The quote is "when you've got your health, you've got everything". Focus on the last goal, and don't give the first two a thought.

So I suggest you separate out all the high carb stuff and put it somewhere else. If it isn't perishable perhaps a room on the basement. But separate.

gramika everything looks good but the gingersnap...you can make keto ones without a problem. i would definitely stop that. go easy on the veg and check the sausage...alot of premade has sugar. otherwise..you are golden!!

well done on sticking with it...i found the more time went on the easier it becomes. I own a bakery..and am never even remotely tempted to have anything. i enjoy the smell..but none if it has any pull any more.

My family is not supportive either. The unhealthy carb filled food is still there, but each week I limit the foods I eat. I am finishing my third week. First week I allowed myself bacon, eggs, chicken, beef, asparagus, brussel sprouts, lettuce, avacado and 1/2 a ginger snap at night. Week two I added blue cheese stuffed olives, regular olives and brocolli and week three I added Italian sausage and an occasionsl piece of tomato...and lots of water. Since I am focused on only those foods, I don't pay attention to what I cook for my family or what they are munching on. I take the 1/2 ginger snap to help my gut and have a treat. Oh, I also take pure C8 MTC oil. Don't forget to take extra minerals. To be honest, I have to make myself eat now. I am seldom hungry. You are off to a great start. Stay focused on the goals you have set for yourself. The first goal for me was to get healthy and feel good, not just lose weight.

Hi Candi and welcome!!!

It’s difficult when you have someone that isn’t 100% committed. I have financial strains and throwing out food wasn’t an option to me. Besides, I had convinced myself I wasn’t going to do keto for more than 3 weeks. After 2 years on keto, 135 pounds gone, my health back, I finally packed up everything with good dates and gave it all away. BAGS of it. Canned fruit, veg, pasta. Salad dressings and marinades. All of it. Gone. Every asks me how I can eat keto when it’s so expensive. Easy..it’s NOT. My grocery bill is far less now!!

Hi Candi - welcome and good luck!! Well you won't need luck if you do keto, it works that well!

My husband just started keto 6 weeks ago and has lost 26 pounds. Before that (I've been keto for 9 months) he ate keto and whatever else he wanted. His blood glucose is now down to the 80s (82 yesterday) and it was almost 200 when he started. It works!!

I understand wanting to not throw the food out - what about a food bank? Would he go along with donating the food you shouldn't be eating? If not, I suggest tucking a bit in the garbage every day until it's gone... because you don't need it either. If you can't endorse that strategy, maybe have a potluck at your house, cook up all the food, plus keto food for yourself, and get rid of it that way!

In any case, it will soon be gone and not a temptation to you.

It sounds like it is definitely something that can help you both, especially your husband. My husband is reluctant to try it because he loves bread. He's been seeing my progress though and he is really excited about it. He has been wanting to make me things, like breakfast in bed, and learning a bit about what I can eat and what I can't. He does all the grocery shopping so he buys me healthy foods and is surprised when I can't eat something like corn or blueberries. He's learning though. It is really hard eating this way when other people in the house are not. I just have to remind myself that if I eat too many carbs I won't lose any weight. I always have a short term goal I'm shooting for so it is exciting to reach those and I don't want to have to wait longer just because I ate something I shouldn't have. One good thing though is I know if I do eat something like that, even accidentally because I didn't know it wasn't Keto, than I know I can just learn that lesson and get right back to doing better.

I wish you both lots of luck in this new experience.

Hello My Name is Candi. I began cooking and eating Keto as of last week. I wanted to begin the Keto Diet a couple of months ago so I bought 3 Keto cookbooks, but my husband absolutely refused to allow it. Recently my husbands Blood Glucose levels were 336 and he was scared. He now is very glad that I had purchased the books and had done some research so we could get started quickly. In approximately 1 week his Glucose levels are now down to 106 today and he has lost 5 pounds. I have lost 2 pounds although I have been eating up the candy lying around so he won't eat them. I tried to throw them out and He wouldn't go along with that. I wanted to go through our Pantry and cupboards but he refuses to throw anything out, so I came up with an idea tonight, and I will pose it to him tomorrow. I want to separate out all of the foods that we should not eat and place them all in the same cupboard, so that will be our No-No Cupboard. Hopefully we will eventually just throw it all out but at least if we do cheat we will absolutely know it, and it can't be an accident.
