Hi everyone! Newbie to the team here. My name is Barb. I've been on SP for some time. I haven't been successful with losing weight and keeping it off. About 2 years ago I decided no quitting until goal weight, no matter what. So I have been sticking around, but not doing the things I should be doing. I've taken that first step by joining SP. I've taken a couple more steps by staying here ..... but it's time to quit watching everyone parade past me and to take some more forward steps (even teeny, tiny ones!). My name is Marilyn Kay. I am going to be 62 in 2 days. I need to lose 60 lbs. I have a heart condition where my heart only pumps less than 30% of the blood out of my heart with each beat instead of the 80% for most people. The tiny capillaries are clogged so can't do surgery to open them up. I really need to eat better. I also have Diabetes. I want today to be the start of getting healthy.

Welcome to the team Mandy. Sometimes the first step can be the hardest. For me, my health has dictated the first steps: reduce soda consumption then switched to water. When you find it, make reasonable goals and feel free to come for support. I know I've needed a lot of support lately. I'm frustrated with the injuries and the losing of my jobs. I went through 2 in less than 2 years and it wasn't anything I could control. I got that support and now I'm not binging every time a storm comes. I'm coping with things better and trying to find my next steps. Good luck to you!

Welcome! I've been a SP member on and off for at least 8 years now I think. I joined when I was losing. Started plateauing, then gained it all back and then some. What's really hurting me is injuries. It makes it very hard to exercise, but I also need to get a handle on food. I've been incorporating changes and then I step back and see what happens. I'm hoping after I make enough changes in my life, it will reflect on the scale. Good luck to us all.

I'm Vicki and I've been a member of sparkpeople off and on for the last 7-8 years. In that time I've managed to yo-yo myself up about 70 lbs. I'll lose some weight then get compliant and gain it back plus more. But now I'm starting to have health issues that wouldn't be as bad if I were at a smaller size.
I don't expect to ever see below 225 lbs. again but would love to see that number again, so this is my goal to reach. As of today I'm 262.8 lbs., so my goal is to drop 38 lbs. Once I manage that, then I'll decide if I want to try to go lower.

Hey Everyone...once again I am returning to SP. I have joined again in hopes that I find within myself and through others the support I need to conquer my issues. I am a food addict that is out of control at the moment. I don't have a trigger food, food is my trigger. I am an emotional eater, a boredom eater, oh and I am awake eater. I am 10 months post op from having vertical sleeve weight lose surgery. I have reached the surgeons goal but I would like to loss another 25 pounds. I have been on a stall for 10 weeks now and it is getting the best of me. I would love to have a solid 5 pound weight lose by the end of March. I would love to be back on track and I would love to be able to block the stinkin' thinkin' I have been showering myself with the past few weeks. I would love to have my back pain free and I would love to be loving life. Here's to goals, to challenges and future victories.

Hello Alicia. I understand. Fat has exacerbated injuries I havve sustained over the years. It is getting harder and harder for me to exercise. I feel like I need a new body. I've been trying to make up with what I can't do with exercise by looking at my diet. Good luck and hope you are able to get on track. Just do a little until you are used to it and work your way up.

Do you have a library nearby that has DVDs you can rent? Mine does and this includes exercise DVDs. I check out movies all the time since I do have a collection of exercise DVDs, but also Sparkpeople has exercise workouts that are short and I guess you can find some on youtube as well. I love to read too, but can't workout while I do that because I don't have the space for an exercise bike. I would like to get one of those pedals where I can just pedal as I sit though.

No, I haven't tried a DVD yet. Not willing to spend the money on something I might not do. Might have to anyway since I don't know any other way to get strength training done.

Also, there are no commercials because I don't watch TV. I am a reader and most of the time, my nose is in a book,.

Hi, All,

HOMEBODY67 invited me to join your team.

I have been around for years and lost and re-gained. The last year or so I have been losing and gaining the same 5-6 pounds and I need to get serious about breaking out of my rut.

Also, I need some suggestions about strength training for couch-potatoes. I walk, but that won't get rid of the underarm flab. I also have an autistic son, so leaving the house when I'm not at work and him at school is not likely to happen.

Sparkpeople can be a bit overwhelming, there is so much here. It's tricky to figure out how to use the site and where to go to see things. I tried a long time ago, for awhile. Now I am ready to try again.
I've been laid up with a broken foot and turned to junk food to comfort myself as a couch potato, naturally, gained a bit on top of what I was.

On top of being healthier, I have big motivations for the holidays. My son's have new girlfriends that I will be traveling to meet, I would like to feel more confident

Hi I'm Lisa & I live with my younger brother Steven. Right now I can't do much exercise for a few days because I just had a Cortisone shot in my left shoulder today. I love to read walk watch TV & do craft work & color Mandalas.

Hey Lisa, I'm also a single Mom to one daughter. I'm so proud of you for going to school so you can better yourself which will ultimately be better for your children. I feel fortunate that I established a career before I had Caley so I can support her with one job vs having to work 2 or 3. We are by no means living the good life, but a much better life than we would otherwise and I'm thankful for that. I keep fresh fruit and buy frozen veggies. Caley likes them much better than canned and whole grains as much as possible. Welcome to the team and your quest.

Hi,
I'm Gwen; live in Florida with my dear husband. We have 3 adult children and 3 grands. I enjoy reading, biking/brisk walking, traveling, and helping others. I am unable to do any exercise for a while; I had Meniscus tear surgery on my left knee a little over a week ago. So I'm taking it one day/step at a time :) Looking forward to being part of this team.

I've lived on the couch way too long! I'm just starting to move any which way I can. Walking is the safest, but am looking for a simple gym with no couch in the room to run to. emoticon

I'm 62 yo, handled a lot through diet so far. Now I just have find the fire within that I use to have. Thank you for putting all of these Challenges together.

Hi, I'm Chris, I'm 61, live in country Victoria, Australia, with my 17 year old cat and three dogs. I've just recently started on trying to transform the long uncared-for front yard and the area bordering the carport at the side of the house I'm leasing into something that looks as though someone loves living here, which I do. I love knitting, walking my dogs individually at least once a day, and am almost at my goal weight - just another 800 grams to go and I'll be there. The closer I get, the harder I try, the less I seem to lose. I know I can do this, and unlike previous times, I know too that I can stay at my goal weight if I just eat sensibly.

Hello. I'm a long time spark member who's looking to find lasting success. I know one of the issues I'm having is injuries and from what I've been reading exercising to burnout so I know I need to make some changes and maybe smaller steps because I know I'm not going to win this battle unless I can get in shape, stay in shape, and make some strides in exercise. I'm also going to continue to make changes in my eating until I start seeing results.

Hi, I am Robin. I am a 65 year old retired secretary from West Central PA. I fell in February (on the ice) and broke the 3 major bones in my ankle. I am just now getting where I can walk longer than from the kitchen to the living room. I still have lots of trouble with stairs, but each day I do a little better. I am happy to have been invited to this team and hope to make lots of new friends.
