Too late!! I did try to increase the resistance much too soon and ended up with my legs aching. So I've backed way off and will take my time now.

@LEW0123 . I think you're doing it perfectly! I was advised to start on easiest resistance with using bike twice a day. Then gradually increase time to 10 minutes. Once there, I very slowly increased the resistance while striving for 10 minutes at that level. It's important to build up slowly. The quickest way to harm yourself is trying to too high of a resistance level for too long a time.......I made that mistake when I first started!

Hi everyone. I'm a repeat Sparker. I first started with Sparkpeople years ago and have been back several times. It's been a few years since I've been gone and I need to get all my stuff updated, especially my blog. Wow. Time does fly.
2 weeks ago, I got my first recumbent exercise bike and I love it. I started off at 2 minutes a session, twice a day. Now I'm up to 10 minutes a session, 3 times a day. I have a lot of pain in my lower back and my legs and the bike really seems to be helping. I am still on the easiest resistance and plan on building my resistance while keeping to 10 minutes a session. I would really love it if I could get some input from members that have been using an exercising bike. I don't know if I am going too slowly or not. I haven't been able to find much helpful info online. I'm not scheduled to see my doctor for 2 months and don't want to mess myself up in the meantime.

G'day everyone. I'm 56 and have issues with balance, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and connective tissue disorder. I took part in a falls prevention clinic which was half strength and other exercises and the other half was balance training. It was really helpful and I've been striving to keep at it ever since. I have a Fitbit and do a lot of walking around my house to reach my step goal every day and I'm recovering from overdoing it on the recumbent bike I bought a few months ago. I didn't have the best seat position (my legs were extended too far) and also started out doing interval training when I should have just eased into getting my muscles used to the new activity. I ended up messing up my tendons up near the top of my thigh. I'm still hobbling a little bit from it but it's getting better. Today I moved the seat forward on the bike and peddled slowly on the least resistance for 5 minutes and seem to be ok from it. I'll just keep going at the low resistance and increase the time slowly before trying intervals or higher resistance for awhile. I'm really glad I found this team!

JUST Keep Moving!!!

Hi I am Guy

There's nothing to fear, you're as good as the best,
As strong as the mightiest, too.
You can win in every battle or test;
For there's no one just like you.
There's only one you in the world today;
So nobody else, you see,
Can do your work in as fine a way:
You're the only you there'll be

Hi Bikers, my name is Marlene and I'm happy to be a member of this group. I'm a retired middle school teacher and have plenty of time for myself, I just need support and motivation to do my daily exercises. Hopefully, we can accomplish this together.

Thanks Silver.

Glad I popped in to Spark as I think I was pedalling too fast for my first two days. Worked out the correct speed now, better to "gently does it"

emoticon Rogan and emoticon to the team!

Both my surgeon and physical therapist recommended a stationary bike after my bilateral knee replacement done in September 2014 it does seem to help. So, I am sure it will help you also.

Looking forward to getting to know you better and cheering you along this journey!!

HI everyone

Just joining, was jogging for a few years but no longer allowed due to hip arthroscopy mid April. Physical therapist has started me on stationary bike, so have joined this group to keep me motivated. Presently have just started last week and am logging my progress.

I have moderate hip arthritis, so hope this will help. Sadly can no longer participate in my spark jogging team :(

Hi I'm Marie, I have had a rough past year with several illnesses and health issues. Right now I'm recovering from the flu/cold and feel so weak. I need to get moving again so I will start with my exercise bike.

Hi, I'm Judi. Such a small group that we ought to get to know each other. I live in Pittsburgh. I'm working on a script for a musical I'm writing. Kind of like an old woman dabbling in paints.

Hi, I wanted to start a team that included stationary bikes. I have mobility issues and need to build strong muscles and get stronger for my later years.
