Hi I’m Mike. I live in Kenosha and have been struggling with my diabetes since 2005. Weight lose has been a challenge as has been maintains stable BS. I breed and show borzoi so 2020 has been tough. Hope to regain my motivation.

emoticon Hi I'm Sande from New Zealand. I joined Spark 7 weeks ago, after my hubby showed me how great it was. Over a year he's lost about 50 pounds and looks amazing. But the health benefits are what caught my attention. Ive been married for 46 years and have a daughter with disabilities (She lives at home) and a son, Nana to 4 but a great grandma to 4 wee girls. I'm a type 2 diabetic. On numerous tablets and insulin twice daily. Went years in denial with my condition, but have finally realized I had to change . Looking forward to knowing you all.

emoticon CORRIEC2, I am also a widow, next April it will be 20 years since my Husband passed, we didn't have any kids, but he has/had 2 grown sons ( 1 passed away in 1992), I don't see the one that is still around too much. I'm Type 2 Diabetic since 2013, still trying to lose weight, I'm going to have to be stubborn with myself to do that. Did you get a lot of snow?? Take care and stay safe

Hello My name is Gail emoticon & I'm T2 diabetic for about 17 years. I just got a Libre Freestyle Flash sensor a few weeks ago. It certainly helps to test more often, especially at night. But I'm having difficulty with download the apps. I'm very pleased to find the great Tools for tracking on Sparks, it's teaching me lots. I've always controlled my T2 by counting carbs, but now through Sparks realize I'm not getting enough calories.I'm glad to meet others with some of the same issues.

I just joined this team. My diabetes is doing well, but I would like the friendship and support of others. Ive been signing in consistently for well over a month. I have some left over stroke symptoms on my left side, but Ive come to terms with my new normal. My hubby is so good to me. He fills in my gaps. I hold his hand when we walk and dont need the cane. Weve been married 54 yrs.

Hello I guess my post the other day didn't post so I'll try again. I just found out I am a diatomic and know nothing about what to do about it.

On Saturday I got a teeny tiny paper cut on my pinkie which I didn't think much about. By Sunday my baby finger had swollen, turned red and hurt every time I hit it while working, which was about a thousand times. Sunday night I could barely sleep because of the pain and by Monday morning my finger had swollen sausage size along with half my hand.

So I was forced to go to one of those clinics in hopes of getting antibiotics. My blood sugar reading was 360, which i guess is pretty high and the doctor didn't buy my excuse that I hate a pastry before I arrived. He sent off a blood test to see what I'd been running the past 6 weeks... and learned that I've been running about 300 average.

Now how can they see that?? I think there must be some spying going on!!

I have been informed that I am a diabetic. I still don't accept it. And I am not planning on going on the shots because I am a total wimp and pass out at the sight of a needle.

I am now following the sparks meal plans for diabetics and I plan on not sitting on my butt and actually exercising in hopes of getting this under control. Because frankly, this scares me.

So you now have a total rookie in your mist and I hope to learn from yall.

yesterday my FBS was 115, this morning it was 148, not sure why such a big swing, but it may be from the storms coming through, I try to eat a protein with a carb at night after supper, and try not to eat too much at that.

Hi all,

I have been working on getting my BS down since Oct. 26, 2019. That is more important than my weight at my age. When I get healthy the weight will come off. I made a commitment to myself on that day: No More Sugar! So far, my morning readings of Blood Sugar have dropped from 250s to 100s.

I have completely changed my lifestyle to the Keto and Intermittent Fasting of 20 hours (of no eating) and a 4-hour window of eating. IF is really healing for the body and it's easy. I have been fasting for 70 days (100 days will be on Mar. 30th) for about 20 to 22 hours every day and I love it. I started the Intermittent Fasting on Dec.13, 2020. I'm keeping my carbs under 30 and most of the time they are under 20 a day. I have done that since Oct. 26th, over 100 days.


Once I made up my mind to do Keto I went to my kitchen and through away my bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and anything that was high in carbs. Then I made my list of allowed meats, veggies and condiments and off to the grocery store I went. You Can Do ANYTHING You Make Up Your Mind To Do.!!! I call My MINDSET. I don't miss any of those high carb things I used to eat. Not even ice cream. My DH still has all he wants but he's not a diabetic.

Oh yes, I haven't take any medication since Nov. 2018 for anything. I do take herbs and vitamins.

Hi everyone - new here. I just got a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

I have an autoimmune disease that I've been getting better at handling, but it greatly reduced my exercise. I had been holding back almost-prediabetes for a couple years - but after two rounds of steroids for a different issue - boom! - suddenly I have full on diabetes. Sigh.

Going on Metformin soon. I have a couple weeks before my RDN appointment, so for now I'm focusing on whole food alternatives to bread / tortillas / pasta, and getting in fruit and veggies.

But I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and out of my depth, honestly. Thanks for listening.

Hello I'm Bobbie,

I'm new here (well, I mean I'm back from a 2yr. Sparkbreak and this is the 1st time I've posted here).

I wanted to introduce myself and tell someone about my Exciting New Discovery. I don't know if it would work for EveryBody but it has for mine so far.

Years ago I lost 50 pounds on Atkins and just as I was getting use to being thinner my daughter had a stroke. Of course, I went to take care of her (she is fine now) but, in the process of my attention being focused on her I fell back into my old southern style habits of eating and gained the 50 pounds back and then some.

Ok, I said all that to say this. I just started the Ketogenic diet last Sat.10/26/19 and yes it is like Atkins in that it is Low Carbs so, it was probably easier for me to adapt to the idea of cutting out STARCHES & SUGARS.

Once I made up my mind to do this I went to my kitchen and through away my bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and anything that was high in carbs (I could do this because it's just my husband and I). Don't worry I kept the things he really likes and he's fine with it. Then I made my list of allowed meats, veggies and condiments and off to the grocery store I went.

When I did Atkins I didn't know anything about diabetes, as far as I know I didn't have it back then 1996/97. I did try several times to go back to doing Atkins over the years but, my mind or body just was not ready or willing to do what I wanted. I "KNOW" LOW CARB works so I started doing research and found Dr. Berg talking about Keto and Intermittent Fasting on YouTube. It was just what I needed to get me to do Low Carb again but healthier.

So far I have Lost 11 lbs. since I restarted myself, Had Family problems that needed my,
Help with my Hubby Due to his Surgery on his Leg with Blood clots.and so I had too leave,

Hi! Newly diagnosed in June, with Type 2... the "It's all my fault" kind... I've been feeling kind of defeated, but learning to manage the diabetes has helped some. I've lost almost 30 pounds, and have kept my BG numbers below 150 for a while now... Looking for more ways to lose weight and keep the BG under control.

Hi, My name is Sandy. I have been a type 2 diabetic for about 6 years now. My last A1C readings were 9.1 and 9.7. I'm finally getting serious about controlling this disease. I've just been put on insulin, just at night. If you need insulin and are afraid, don't be! I can't even feel the needle. I was also just diagnosed with breast cancer, luckily it is early, so just a lumpectomy, no chemo, and hopefully no radiation.My surgery is next week. I also have several other conditions, fibromyalgia being the most painful. I also need to lose about 60-70 pounds. I am eating very healthy, following a diabetic diet, but so far it's not helping my glucose reading. I may need to increase my insulin. I'll report my readings to my NP and see what happens.

Hi everyone. My name is Rani. I was diagnosed with Type 2 in June of 2013. Like many other Type 2-ers, I already had a cart-full of diabetic complications brewing at the time I was diagnosed (gestational diabetes-1983, peripheral neuropathy, atherosclerosis, chronic kidney disease, periodontal disease, dry eyes, depression, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, high lipid profile, NAFLD, frozen shoulder, obesity, cataracts, hearing loss, obstructive sleep apnea and I think there's some more but I'll stop here.) In retrospect, it seems likely that years or decades of high post-meal blood glucose levels were occurring and no one knew. Only my fasting blood sugar was ever tracked - once per year, and the levels were consistently high normal - between 95 to 100. I had no symptoms...just diabetic complications. They never tested my A1C until after the fact.

My highest recorded A1C was 6.1. My brother, who is also Type 2 and now in end-stage chronic kidney disease and nearly blind from diabetic retinopathy has never been over A1C 6.2. It runs in the family...maternally passed down.

My current A1C is 5.4 and all the complications are either holding steady or are improved. I keep close track of my post-meal readings - at 1 hour and at 2 hours - sometimes at 3 or 4 hours, depending on what I've eaten and how much. I take metformin - two, 500mg ER, one in the morning and the other before bed. And, SparkPeople has me exercising, finally! So, I'm feeling loads better and am down 40 pounds since late August of last year.

I've come to the team to learn and to share what's working for me.

No, Janice it was from a meter the doctor used. I am very new to this and have no idea about getting readings . I have a meter which our government gave us for free and I think the readings begin with a C. I will look atbit properly the next time I do it. The reading I am going to list today is from this morning, so the next reading will probably be very soon.

Long time listener, first time caller.

I've been on SP for a few years and really slipped off path last year. Now my A1C is in the 8s so I thought I'd check in here for a bit.

What's really worked well for me in the past is a Whole Foods Plant Based program. I love Dr. Fuhrman and the concept of "nutritarian" - eating the foods with the highest nutritional content. But alas, the Carbomatic Comfort Creature gets the best of me sometimes. So glad spring is ahead with her vegetable bounties...

Hi! Among onther things, I have Type 2 diabetes. I am here on SparkPeople because my last A1C was over 8 - higher than it had ever been. I though maybe that was because of New Year's Eve (too much bad food), but I got a real shock when I started doing fasting blood sugar tests. Way too high! And I thought I'd been eating well.

So, I needed some help... and came to SparkPeople

Hello. I joined spark with the goal of losing weight and hopefully improving my health. My medical conditions include Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Type 2 Diabetes, Depression, Migraines, Fatigue, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Raynaud's Disease. I haven't known a pain free day in over 12 years, but I will not let that stop me. I look forward to making friends and being an active member of the team.

I just joined the team and I hope I can get some insight to diabetes. My medical history is lengthy from cancer, heart failure , afib/pacemaker and now a diabetic as of 2017. I retired in 2016 and now it's all about me get healthy. I'm spending time for daily walks and working out at the gym. The results are starting to show with my recent A1C in October was down to 5.8 from 7.2 back in 2017.

I have been a Sparker for some time....but today was that day I have dreaded. My doctor told me last year that I was prediabetic...diet controlled. These last few months I didn't exercise regularly and my A1C is 7.0. Also my blood pressure was up and cholesterol as well. I guess it is meds for me which is what I was trying to avoid. I am waiting to see what the meds are. I am going to get back in the swing of things. I appreciate all the help I can get!

Hi, I am Kathleen,n living in northern CA foothills. I am ashamed to say that I am an on again-off again member. I am often too ill. I suffered a broken neck and three back injuries some time ago which led to weight gain-- sedentary lifestyle and now diabetes ll. I struggle with my diabetes numbers but my Dr insists it is high because I am recovering from back surgery. I truly hope to check in daily like I used. Bless you all for the encouragement you give.
