My name is Jan but most call me 2B short for my spark name. I have been on Sparks since 2012 and can't remember missing a day to log on! ..... I am completely sold on Sparks and the idea that starting with small goals is the sensible way to go.
Those ten minutes starting out with any exercise can really spark you, and before you know it, the ten turn into fifteen and so on. No weekend 'warrior' stuff that can leave you exhausted and burned out.
I have seen so many changes since beginning, with an Optimistic outlook daily, and look forward to fitness in a fun way rather than looking at it as 'work.'
Thanks to Spark Guy for thinking of us collectively by starting this site and always looking for ways to keep it fun and challenging! emoticon

Hi there Sparkers. My name is Jamia and I have been a member of Sparkpeople since 2007. Back then I had a goal weight of 110 and actually got down to 106. My profile picture is me with my 16 yr. old daughter. I lost my computer and without the accountability I am now back and trying to get back to a healthier weight. I have 5 grandchildren now and wish to be around for them. I want to get back into shape so I can be the "FUN" grandma. I look forward to getting to know everyone and reaching some goals. Thank You to Sparkguy Chris for getting this team together and for the site. emoticon

Hi! I'm Emilie.
I've been a member since 2008. I followed the program and lost 40 pounds. For several years between then and now, I lost a few pounds and gained a few pounds. I was pretty much stuck on a plateau. A few months ago I joined the Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge and found the motivation I needed to get back on track.
When that challenge ended I joined the Plateau Busting Challenge. That helped me lose a few pounds, but more importantly, it helped me bring my cholesterol and glucose levels back to a healthier range.
It's time for another challenge, and this looks like a great one for me. I look forward to reading everyone's posts.

Hi I'm Maria,

Joined this team because I think setting small goals makes getting healthy and in shape much more attainable. I've stopped focusing on how much weight I needed to lose and started focusing on more important things. Like actually loving the person I am now. Has not been an easy thing, but I work on it every day. I try to say kind words to myself instead of the mean words I used to say. I think not liking who you are from the start of your journey makes it much more difficult to get healthy and in shape. You expect results to come quickly and when it doesn't you feel like you have failed. At least that is how I felt before. Now I don't worry about the lbs. I created a goal chart reward list using stones. When I do something on that list I earn whatever number of stones I've attached to that said goal. for example logging my food earns me 1 stone, but staying in my calorie range earns me two. To make it more interesting I have two Jars I'm filling up. The first Jar is for smaller prizes like a book or music from iTunes. The second Jar is for bigger prizes such as a massage or a good pair of new sneakers. I can only fill the second Jar once I've filled the first Jar. Sometimes I only do one of those goals on that list and that's okay. The important thing is that I'm focusing on goals that are going to help me get healthy and in shape instead of just focusing on weight I need to lose and getting upset because the scale didn't move down or my clothes still fit the same. Before I know it I'm going to be like "Whoa when did I get so sexy"

Hi my name is Sharyl - I am from Yorkville, IL - I have 3 small goals right now that I am working on (21 days to make a habit right?)

1) walk 6,000 steps 6 days a week and strength training 2 x a week I am on week 3 now!
2) under 1400 calories a day (on day 3 attempt 3)
3) under 40% carbs per day (on day 3 attempt 3)

since joining the team I have added 1 motivator a day and sparking someone else (on day 3)

Here is the deal for me, I don't care how long the practice takes to make perfect I will continue with these goals until I make them habits and then I will move on to the next goals. I didnt learn to walk on my first attempt, or tie my shoe, or cook a complex meal - they all took training and practice - and I will continue to practice until I get it right :)

I'm Carmen posting from Oakland, California

I am in need of serious help and I think this could be the team for me. Weight loss is only one item on my life to-do list. I'm overwhelmed on where to start so I'm here, actually back here, I joined over 10 years ago and strayed away but not before attending a convention in 2009 that was absolutely amazing. I would like to experience that feeling again

In a nutshell, I need to start taking better care of myself on every level and I hope committing to small goals will be the way

Happy to be a part of this new team. I love small goals. I lost 240 pounds on small goals with SparkPeople. I went to the wayside but I am back trying to lose the 50 pounds I gained back. Small goals worked for me before and will again. Good luck to all here.

Happy Birthday JANROLG! Happy 4th of July to all the US Sparkers!

I've been on SparkPeople for 10 years. I was very active at first, I reached many of my weight goals, but looking back, I probably didn't do it in the healthiest of ways. And I failed to learn lasting habits to maintain my weight loss. Over the past couple of years, I've been dealing with some health issues, so I haven't been very active here. My goals changed from thinking I needed to be a certain weight to survival and getting back to a healthier new normal. I am pretty close to there. Through it all, my goals have changed. I'm not so focused on "looking" a certain way. I'm more focused on being healthy and what that means to me as an individual. I am hoping this team helps me to more specifically define my goals and help me to reach them with long-lasting, healthy, maintainable habits.

Joyce

I have been on Spark for almost 6 years. My efforts have brought me some success. I have learned allot. I definitely eat more nutrient dense foods then ever before. Due to life situations beyond my sphere of personal control the last 6 years have probably been my most stressful years of my life. Never thought I was so much of an emotional eater. Eating emotions obviously solves nothing. My number one obstacle is consistency. The team support has been the most helpful. The tools on Spark people are amazing. I still believe in my goals. I have tweaked my program multiple times. Like Edison I guess I know a million ways to not reach my goal. So with that in mind I'm so grateful to be here and all the support. Thank you Spark Guy for the invite to the team. emoticon

I'm an eternal optimist. I found the Secret; the Eat to Live plan. I will be a Success Story !

Hi, I'm Theresa and I've been with Sparkpeople for 10 years (2007). I have reached my weightloss goal with lots of help from SP articles and the different teams I joined. I am now maintaining my weight. I have been at my goal weight for 5 years. It was a rough and difficult process for me, but I made it in 2012. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm Sabine originally from Germany but spent most of my life in Colorado. I love it here. I joined Sparkpeople in 2006. Most of my life I have weighed over 200 lbs and my highest weight was 275 a few months before I joined SP.

With SP I made it just below 190 and then I quit because of all my other responsibilities, I just didn't have the time to spend here online. Regretfully I gained a lot of weight back. Due to surgeries on my feet I have been home bound for most of the last 10 months. Even though I had the knee scooter, it is very bothersome on uneven ground and in small spaces. It doesn't help to have RA in your hands and arms either. I'm waiting for the middle of July hoping to be able to start walking again.

I hate exercising but I love deep water aerobics, swimming, dancing and yoga which I haven't done in a year. I've been counting calories to at least to maintain my current weight because I can't move around much. I am sooo close to being under 200 lbs and that's what I am looking forward to.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Hi Spark friends! I am Joanne, a Canadian member since 2010. I have benefited so much from Spark, and I am excited about this new team!
I am a mother of two, grandma of two, love dogs, reading, gardening, and being active!
I am retired now but worked many years as a children's librarian in an elementary school, and as a marriage commissioner in Alberta. I was so fortunate to have not just one, but two jobs which I loved.
Now I love my healthy lifestyle and the freedom retirement brings!
Keep Sparking!

Hello Sparkers! I'm Tracee, almost 38. I have been with Spark for over 10 years with many different goals throughout.

My current goals are overall health. Making healthy habits and decisions. Developing habits that I can maintain throughout my life.

I have four teenage daughters. My oldest is 19 , she is a sophomore at Earlham College studying political science and international business (pre-law track) she wants to be an immigration lawyer. My 15 year old is a high school sophomore, an ace archer, and great student! I have 13 year old twins with special needs and they truly amaze and inspire me everyday!!

I'm truly blessed in life and want to be thankful for it and take care of myself the best I can. I want to be a good role model for my girls.

Will it be easy, NO, but it will be worth it!

Hi, my name is Karen. I've been with SparkPeople for about 7 years. My weight has gone up and down during that time, mostly due to personal family challenges but I am getting better at managing emotional eating. I found SparkPeople after losing my mother and another family member unexpectedly, and this site has been a Godsend. Between the information and the tools to help me build a healthy lifestyle, and the wonderful supportive friendships I've found, I really love SparkPeople, and I really appreciate Sparkguy/Chris' vision for this.

At the beginning of this year, I suffered an accident, injuring my shoulder and my foot. I just had surgery on my foot, and am still rehabbing both shoulder and foot. Unfortunately, I regained a lot of weight during the months I was sidelined but I've started walking again (baby steps!) and I am DETERMINED to lose the excess weight completely and rebuild my fitness. I am down from 200 lbs to 180 now, and need to lose another 45 lbs. I have a lot of other life goals I am working on as well, so this kind of team challenge is perfect timing!

This is my DETERMINED (not angry) face: emoticon

Good luck to everyone and God bless!

I'm Kathy. I have been with SparkPeople for 2 1/2 years now although I signed up a couple years before that. I have loved every minute of my active time on Spark and have had a 41 pound loss to show for it.

I have 3 daughters, 2 sons, and a step-son - 3 are married, and I also have 5 wonderful grandchildren. My end goal is to improve my health so I am around a long time to play with those wonderful children.

I am recently recovered (or recovering actually) from knee replacement surgery - 3 months and 2 weeks. I am finally able to walk better than I have walked in so many years I can't remember. Daisy and I walk about 2 miles every morning and that will continue until it gets too cold to go out - which it will because I live in Minnesota.

My youngest son is taking me to Norway this summer - we leave on August 1st. I will see the home of three of my grandparents and get to meet a few remaining relatives. I am both excited and a bit nervous but I can't wait!

Another Jeanne here.
I have no problem meeting my goals throughout the day: exercise, eating plan, enough sleep, meditate to bust stress and then. Oh, that then...when I sit at the computer to log in all the successes of my day, the snack attacks come calling. Most evenings I manage to keep them at bay. It's as if I cannot allow myself to have the success I need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It's my hope that this challenge will help me find what I need to get through those evenings.

Hi, I'm Dee and I live in PA. I've been Sparking since January 30, 2015, and joined after receiving a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. SP helped me lose 70 pounds, bring my blood glucose levels to a normal range and eventually led me to pursue a career as a Motivational Health Coach. I know how important small, sustainable changes combined with accountability can lead to realizing our goals. As a Health Coach I need to walk my talk!

I'm married with 2 grown sons and 4 spectacular grandchildren ranging in ages from 8-20. We're "owned" by our Irish Red & White Setter.

I'm always a work in progress, and like everyone else, having team support is welcomed. I've been on the Champions in the Kitchen Team for the 5% seasonal Weight Loss Challenges since I joined SP, and I've made many good friends. There are so many amazing resources to be found on this site, and this team is an excellent example of how engaging with others on SP can help you no matter you goals.

Hi all! My name is Patti and I live in Spring Hill Florida, about an hour north of Tampa. I am 51 years old and have been a Spark member since 2009. My weight has been up and down over this time, but never near my goal weight. I have been overweight my entire life, attending my first weight watchers meeting at the tender age of 6. I am healthy if you look at my bloodwork and my ability to run 3+ miles without stopping, but I still want to have less fat on my body and feel better in clothes. I feel this Team fits into my goals and what I am trying to accomplish in my life. I am a teacher, Union rep/treasurer/Bargaining team member/Evaluation team member, and the JV Soccer Coach. I have a loving husband, 3 surviving daughters, and 7 grandchildren. Life is busy!! Happy SParking everyone!!

My name is Jeanne. I initially learned about SparkPeople in July 2010 (7 years ago!) from an RN that had led a workshop at my workplace on Quick Healthy Eating. I joined SparkPeople at that time; but, I allowed life to get in the way and divert me from my goals. I was not here for long.

In late June 2013 I began walking to reduce stress. The stress in my life had become unbearable. In late December 2013 I received a health questionnaire from my health care provider. I completed it and was advised to improve my eating habits, exercise, and lose weight. It was at that time that I remembered SparkPeople and returned.

I committed to food tracking for one day. When that wasn't so bad, I committed to one week. One week became one month, one month became one year and here I am three and a half years later still merrily tracking away.

The crisscross effects are clearly evident in my experience. I had never tracked food in any way shape or form until returning to SparkPeople in late December 2013. For me, food tracking was a game changer.

Based upon the information gathered food tracking, I've been able to make the needed dietary adjustments to support my health and well-being. I have been living with longstanding autoimmune conditions and dietary changes have had the biggest impact on improving my health. It has been incredibly shocking to me to learn how powerful ones food choices are when it comes to ones health and well-being ... at least for this "canary".

Ironically, I was the most resistant to addressing my food choices. Here's where the crisscross effects come in ... I had to reduce the stress in my life first. I did that by getting out to walk. Nature soothes my soul. While we were out walking we carried water. So, my hydration improved. Reducing stress and improved hydration led to more restful sleep.

Being less stressed, well hydrated and well rested I had the energy to address my food choices. I was simply too overwhelmed with life before. Less than 6 months after returning to SparkPeople, I would find myself at my goal weight. The weight loss was a side effect, it was not my primary goal.

I have continued to have life challenges (personal, work, illness, injury); but, returning to SparkPeople in late December 2013 and getting engaged has provided a foundation that's supported me in meeting these life challenges.

I'm looking forward to engaging this system in a more focused and structured manner. Thanks for the invitation to the Small Goals Commitment Challenge.

Hi, I'm Kendra. I joined SP in 2007. I am at my goal weight and maintaining, but over the years my lines have blurred, and my program is wishy washy at best. Now is a good time to refocus and gain some clarity. I'm excited! Thanks SparkGuy.

I'm Diane, and so thankful for SP as it's changing my life for the better. emoticon Thanks Chris and all of you! emoticon

The biggest change for me is getting off the couch and moving. The weight loss is a very slow process for me, but I keep staying within cal range, drinking water n tracking n eventually it should come off.

In the meantime, my outlook n moods r good n I know moving is healthy for me even if I'd prefer being a couch potato. It's because of the 10 min small goal and encouragement from SP that I'm up now using my treadmill. I'm even participating in the Summer 5 challenge. emoticon

Thanks again everyone and know your support does have positive impacts on others. God bless you all. emoticon

Thank You Lord for being on this journey with me and all my many blessings.
Thank You Lord for all the many wonderful SP friends I've met and those I have yet to meet.
Jesus, I trust in You!

Hello, Wanda here. I really tend to focus on the big goals and need to learn to stick with small goals. I know this will apply in many areas of my life. WOOHOO, a button to remind me to take my pill. I am so bad about something so important! I can tell already that this team is going to be helpful in my healthy journey!

Hi, I'm Libby. I'd like to focus on a more holistic, overall approach to health rather than only traditional diet/exercise. So this team came along at exactly the right time. I've been managing my nutrition pretty well for the past 3 months but have a lot of weight to lose. More exercise, managing stress, and enjoying life rather than obsessing over calories are my big picture goals.

Hi Leslie, I'm Trina.
I have found that writing all the reasons WHY I need to lose weight, my weight loss advantage list, and reading the list throughout the day as my reminder, has been helpful too stick to my plan. I also write out my sabotaging thoughts and write out a response on a 3X5 card, and look at those when those sabotaging thoughts and temptations arise. Just thought I'd share what's been helpful to me.
I also write out my daily and weekly goals and review often as well. To help keep me focused.
