Hi Mary, I'm very glad you chose our team to join. We're all like-minded, trying to lose weight be active. It doesn't really involve much to belong to a team - you can join in on any or all threads that interest you or sit back and just read the posts. I'd encourage you to join our chat thread because that's where you'll get to know the members, receive tips, encouragement and support. Remember, you're not alone in this struggle.

The more you get involved in a team and with it's members, the more you'll get out of it. It's up to you and I sure look forward to meeting and greeting you on the threads. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll enjoy being with us, we're a friendly group.

By the way, your spark page is marked private and we won't be able to get in and see it. Did you know? It's okay if you wish to keep it private but if you make it public, we can come in to leave you goodies and comments, etc.
emoticon to the team! It's good to have you with us!

Hi All,
I am new - never been on a Spark Team before - not sure what it involves really. My name is Mary and live in Massachusetts. I'm 72 years old and in good health. But I'm very overweight and sedentary and struggle off and on with trying to change both of those conditions. Here we go again!.

emoticon to the team Roz! I think you and I belonged to a same team a few years back -- Classy 70's -- are you still on that one?

We're not big on exercise, we can generally get that on other teams but we love to chat, great at supporting and helping one another and we enjoy sharing our days. We do like games and have several on the go, plus we have a 'question of the day' that Carol puts on, always interesting. Good recipes thread and we welcome any you'd like to share with us.

Come in on any/all threads that you wish, they're there for you.

Welcome to the team, I look forward to once again getting to know you.

emoticon to the team CEEJAYC. Like you, I had a health issue all the month of April (severe bronchitis) which really almost put a halt to my walking. When it started getting better, it was like starting all over, difficult to walk far.

If I have it figured right, you're still 30 lbs down and that's awesome! Just eating healthy & small portions will help you get that off again, may take a while but it will happen. Keep on doing all that you can ... recording your food intake is a good thing to do. You'll get back on track, never give up!

We share a lot of common things on this team, a lot are because of being seniors but keep going and you're going to get there. I know you can do it!

I'm a life-time member of Weight Watchers for over 30 years now and although I don't go to the meetings anymore I have to always do something to keep myself in check or my weight will just keep climbing up. So here I am back with SP after a long absence and found this team only a few days ago myself. I liked the idea of a team 70+ as our needs and issues would be different from those 40 or 50 years old. Metabolism being slower making weight come off slower, and perhaps more serious joint and health issues.

Looking forward to seeing your posts. These ladies are very friendly and helpful.

emoticon DollyDoodle. My goodness, this team is growing by leaps and bounds in the last few days. I' m Dorothy from Mississauga and as you can see below in a post to another new member, I'm also new. Like you, people often think I'm younger than I am (72). I'm blessed with good health and lots of energy for which I'm very grateful.

You are well on your way with 35 lbs. gone already. That in itself is a big achievement. Hang on to that thought and try not to look at the big picture of another 100 lbs. to go. 5 lb. increments is manageable and can lead to success. Little by little you will get there. It's not easy loosing weight at our age, but it certainly isn't impossible either. Stick with the team and I'm sure you will get all the help and support you need.

Hi all! I am new to this team but not to SparkPeople. I joined years ago and am a classic yoyo dieter. Last year I lost 50+ pounds on Optifast, but gained 20+ back. I've had some health issues this spring (nothing serious) that have forced me to be more inactive than I'd like to be, so exercise isn't much of an option, but I'm logging in daily, recording my food intake, and trying to keep my spark streaks going.

I live in Florida, and lost my hubby 16 years ago next month. I have 3 adult children and 3 granddaughters who all live close by, and am very busy! I'll turn 70 at the end of August and want to get as healthy as I can. Getting my weight down is a big part of that. My doctor really scolded me last week so I'm finally trying to get back on track. I know I can do this...it will be easier when I can walk more and work outside. It's pretty hot for that right now, so I'd settle for going to LA Fitness and maybe swimming (slowly) some laps. When it cools off I hope to go bike riding...I couldn't on my vacation last month because I was in too much pain.

It will be nice to hear from people who share common challenges and I can always use encouragement and suggestions!

LIFE is short.
BREAK the rules,
FORGIVE quickly,
LAUGH uncontrollably, and
NEVER REGRET ANYTHING
that made you SMILE!

It seems that many of us decide to take care of our weight in our senior years and I think that is wise. We want to make the best of our remaining years. I'm pre-diabetic also and losing some weight would surely help with that.

Come on the threads, jump right in and in no time you'll feel right at home and you'll get to know other women on our team. We're supportive, helpful and friendly.

I look forward to meeting you on the chat thread. I'm pleased you decided to join our team ... see you there!

Hello, I am 79 and have been a widow for 13 years. I live in the Midwest U.S. I am active and most people think that I am 60 and they are shocked when I tell them that I am 79. I have 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandsons
I think this sounds like a good group.
I have fought weight my entire life - 2 years ago, after seeing the Dr. I decided that I had better work on getting this weight off. I am prediabetic - so far my A1C count is good and I need no medication, just diet.
I decided that I do not want to take medication for my Psoriatic Arthritis - with eating no sugar and no flour, I manage to keep the inflammation out of my body and so far no meds for that.
I lost 35 pounds and need to lose another 100. Hoping Spark People can keep me motivated

Hi Luvs2bike and a very warm welcome to the team. I'm new to this team as of a few days ago.

I'm a Canadian Sparker...Dorothy from Mississauga, Ontario, 72 years old and love crafts as well. It's good for the soul especially when shared to help others. Was with SP for quite a while and left about 6 or 7 years ago. Now I'm back and active with my old team and this one.

Congrats on being a grandmother for the first time. Looking forward to you joining in.

Welcome LUVS2BIKE. I enjoy my bicycle too.

I live in Harrow which is close to Windsor which is across the river from Detroit, Michigan. I also make quilts. Mine are for our local hospice. Each new resident will find a small quilt and comfort bear on their bed when they move in.

My exciting news is that our oldest granddaughter will make me a great-grandmother in November. It is such a wonderful time for you and I as we anticipate what the future will bring (and all the other grands and great-grands.) Yes, we want to be healthy so that we can fully enjoy our new little ones.

Hello, everyone! And special greetings to our Canadian Sparkers on this glorious Canada Day! I am from New York State and have been a Sparker since June 2010. As you can see from my Spark name, I LOVE to bike! I find the key to happiness is to have God in your life and to be active in the world He created for us while helping our neighbor. As an avid quilter, I enjoy making quilts for Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need. I'm 65 years old and a soon-to-be grandmother for the first time. I'm so grateful and excited! SparkPeople keeps me in check on my journey to better health so I may enjoy my future more with my grandchild.

Best wishes to all our Canadian Sparkers! May you enjoy a healthy and safe day celebrating!

Keep Sparking!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Dorothy. I'm 72 and live in Mississauga, Ontario Canada. Been away from SparkPeople for approximately 7 years and returned June 23rd. Been looking for a 2nd team to join that's age appropriate and not too busy as I like to be an active member and participate daily. Searched through all the other teams in this age group and this one looks like the best choice for me. My other team that I was with for years and rejoined last week is Canada's 50+ Ladies Club. Many have left over the years but there are still a few dedicated people who keep on keeping on.

I'm a volunteer for almost 15 years with my Senior Centre. In good health and quite active for my age. Want to ensure I stay that way as long as possible by eating right, exercising and being of help and support to others whenever I can.

Looking forward to joining in with you.

We're not heavy into challenges but we're more of a casual, chatty, helpful group. Kind of relaxing, for a nice change. No pushing you into doing anything ... all the info you need about losing weight is here on SP, read the articles and also the member's blogs, they are very inspiring and helpful.

Track you food and also your exercise and watch those pounds come off! We are all striving to be as healthy as possible. Come join us!

Hi Gloria, My name is Virginia and I live in Vermont, which explains my username VAinVT. Not a lifelong resident by any means, but I love the beauty here and the fact that many residents - young and old - are physically active. SP helps me stay on track with food and exercise, so I am grateful for the opportunity to join a group of people who continue to try to stay healthy.

emoticon to our team, MOMTOLJ! So glad you chose to join us and it's good to see you here. Yes, you're in the right place. This is where newbies introduce themselves and also, our team is for anyone over 70 (or close to 70 & over).

We do our own individual exercising and follow whatever diet/food plan that suits us. But we're not a team into challenges. We're more into chatting, being supportive, encouraging, etc. I think you'll like being here.

I read your post on the chat thread and was so pleased that you joined us there! Having your own exercise machine, any one of them, in your home, is a huge help. That means you can get on it whenever you wish, whenever you have the chance. Awesome!

Again, welcome to our team and if you choose to let us know your name or something shorter we can call you, that would be great too!

See you on the threads!

emoticon to our team, ITSMEAGAINO! First of all, do you want us to call you by your name? I'm Gloria and I'm glad you chose to join us, we're a friendly, supportive, helpful group of ladies and though we don't really do challenges, we do like to chat.

I found that it was easy for weight to come on as I got older but very difficult to take it off. I don't diet, I have just cut out junk food, eat as healthy as I can. Oh yeah, I'm overweight but always working on it. I don't think I'd want to join in that stretching class, not with that instructor! Wow, that was terrible of her to push that lady's back down, could have hurt her and that must have embarrassed her!

We have an exercise room in my apartment building and reading your 'getting to know you' post here, reminds me that I should be using it! It's one of those 'use at your own risk' type of rooms, no instructors, just exercise machines. I like the exercise bike and there are treadmills too. Why not try those kind, they are easy on your body but really help with the weight.

Now that we know a bit about you, come on our chat thread and chat with us? It's the first thread on this page and is called that. We talk about our days there, share them actually. You can say as much or as little as you like but it is nice to see you come in and if you need to know anything, you can ask on the chat thread too. Someone will always answer.

I'm the team's leader, and try to put on threads that I think will interest members but am always open to suggestions. I am on my own, separated 4 years ago, never divorced my second husband and he passed away this past December. We had a nice big home, lived there for 30 years and now I'm in a small apartment but at least that means less work and at my age, I like to do less, lol.

See you on the chat thread!

Here I am posting just before I go to bed cause I said I would! I have joined SP 3 times and the first two times were years ago. I resigned up about last April and did okay in the beginning. I wandered off, and now have returned for I regained all my FAT! I am FAT! I am apple shaped and I can see it right in front of me so I never lose sight of it lol I don't have a waist anymore and it's been a long time gone. Anyways, I refuse to give up working on losing some of this FAT! My sweetie and I have recently joined the senior citizens center about 18 miles away. He does better than I do once we get ourselves over there. It's the first time I have ever worked in the weight room. I use the equipment I think I am least likely to hurt myself on lol and I walk the track. I have been eyeing the stretching class. I did not get a good first impression when I watched them the first time cause the instructor went over and put her hands on a ladies upper back and pushed her forehead to the floor. The lady was probably in her mid 70's and I almost screamed for her. Not sure I can survive such a thing. What else is of interest to anyone and I will write again. I don't know much about which forum to write in, but I will do some more exploring. Thank you for the warm welcome from so many of you.

Jayne Welcome to our really chatty and wonderful group of women. WE hail from all over the world and that is interesting because the food is different as well as the weather. There is another lady, Nola, that is from Australia, and I am sure you both might have lots in common. I just found out that being in Australia you are a day ahead of us. Duh, I am the dummy, but I understand this is your summer season right now. Nola said it was 100 one of the days last week, Gads thought we here in Sacramento CA had the hottest weather. BUT WAIT, we have very little humidity. LOL I got news for the weather people, hot is hot.

When you get a chance drop by the threads and chat with us. We really don't bite, well, at least I don't LOL We kinda sorta share everything; It is like our own personal support group.

Aunty/Yvonne, how did I not see your name at the end of your post? I'm sorry about that and will call you Yvonne when you come on the threads.

As Bev has said, do drop in on the chat thread, we're easy to talk to.

Yvonne, welcome to the team. This is an awesome team and what I do like is that all we do is chat. You will find out, I am a chatty person. I live near Greenback and Garfield. I can walk to the theaters and used to go twice a week, but now that I have loaded (and paid) for all 3 Hallmark channels I watch these movies over and over.

I love, love to read. I bought a kindle when they first came out, and hardly ever use it because I love to buy the book and I like turning the pages. Also, I love to share with others. I have lots of favorite authors. Janet Evanovich, and Debbie MacComber come to mind. I love to read mysteries and used to belong to Book of the Month club, but it became too expensive I mustn't forget I also read James Patterson's Women's Murder Mysteries. I am on #17 and need to get myself in gear and order #18.

Drop in on the conversation and you will be pleased at how easy it is. Bevieg

emoticon to the team Aunty. I'm really glad you chose to join us. We aren't really a 'challenges' team but more chatty than anything. Kind of a relaxing place to come to, no pressures.

When our weight creeps up on us, I agree that we're killing ourselves and I, too have vowed to get it off this year! Since age is also creeping up on us, there's no time like the present to take care of ourselves!

You have a good plan, walking is an all round exercise, it works every part of our body. I need a walker to walk, my balance is kind of off. But I walk the long hallways of my apt building and when weather permits, walk the streets near me. I'd love to walk a mile each day as you do but if we take it a day at a time, the sky's the limit!

Come on the chat thread and get to know us Aunty, is it okay to call you that or do you want us to have your actual name. Whatever way is fine. You'll find the women here are friendly, supportive and actually, awesome!

Welcome to our group!

I turned 70 last November, and when I weighed yesterday, I weighed more than I ever remember. I'm killing myself, and it's time to do something. I can't undo most of the prior damage, but all I can do is start where I am.

My plans are to walk at least 6 days a week, 1/2 mile each day. Either outside or on the treadmill. And I would like to lose 20 pounds as my first goal.

emoticon Hi Jenye! I'm so sorry I'm late coming in to greet you, I was out all yesterday! I think a lot of us yo-yo and that is so hard to conquer! I just try to eat healthy foods and watch my portions. That seems to be the best I can do.

Being in a wheelchair would certainly make it difficult to do any exercises. Has your doctor recommended some you can do? I have a back problem and it affects my left leg so I do some chair exercises that are for 'senior' seniors! I look them up on Youtube.

We have a nice group of ladies on our team and I'm sure you'll join in and be comfortable with us right away. We're not heavy into challenges, we're more for chatting and doing a few fun games. I hope you'll scroll down the threads and choose the ones you wish to get into.

Looking forward to meeting you on the chat thread and speaking of that thread, I need to get in there yet today, lol.

Hi everyone, my name is Jenye and I am 77 years old. I have been a widow for 4 years and live in Australia. I have been a member of SP for many years now and my weight has yo-yo'd so much. Since I shifted after my husband died and I have put on at least 12kgs, so now I have to concentrate on losing it.. I have MS and am in a wheelchair 24/7 so unable to partake in much exercise.
This team looks like it will be so much fun, so I really am pleased that I found it

Cheers Jenye ( Ashenpond2).

Welcome to the team Jan! So pleased that you chose to join our group. Good to know you like to chat, that is mainly what we're about here, we're not really into challenges, we leave that to other teams.

It's just nice to be able to talk to others close to our age, to get encouragement and support from them. So come on the chat thread, talk to us there, get to know us and we'll get to know you too!

Welcome to our team!!

Welcome to the team Donna. I'm glad you came in here to tell us a bit about yourself. I like positive people also, cannot abide grouches or grumblers. Sorry, but they tend to pull a person down.

I'm glad that you're feeling comfortable with the team now, good to see you here.

I am new to this team too. Live in a Chicago suburb and love to travel. I spend a lot of time on the computer and spark people does take a bit of time each day. I like positive people and dislike some of the harsh media communications that sensationalize life. We want to be happy and positive while we're here and maybe hereafter too!

Welcome Carole, I am 77 and really like this team because it is only chatting and nothing else. The challenges are not for me anymore. I have 3 children, Brian, 52, Bruce 51, and Nicole 42. Brian kinda sorta lives with me, has a 51 foot yacht on the river with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths and more amenities than I have, Bruce lives in Bend Or, and more about him later, Nicole in Colorado Springs CO. and hates it, looking to come back to CA. She is married to a man, that if he got in front of my car, I would have to think twice about running him down. LOL, 3 children, one boy and 2 girls. I have Glaucoma in both my eyes, taking MJ and it is helping the pressure, also have OA in both my knees and fighting through the pain to keep moving. NOT EASY.

I do lots and lots of reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. (keeping my brain active) I try to limit my computer time so I don't feel like it is a job. When I first joined SP, I was on about 7 teams and felt obligated to join in, but I am only on two teams now and that is enough for me. Before when I was on all the teams, I was on the computer for about 8 hours. Now that is a job, no thank you. Originally I am from MA, so where in MA did you hang your hat? I was 28 miles north of Boston in Lawrence, Methuen and worked in Salem, NH. We as a family then moved to Torrance in the South Bay. and It was really ideal, then on to Sacramento, (again no snow) but we here have sun, sun and more sun. We will not see rain or a cloudy day at least until Nov or Dec. It is 98 right now, and A/C is already on.

well, that is it for me, and again welcome to our team and looking forward to seeing you on the threads. Bev

Welcome to our team Carole, you're in good company here. Working on our weight as we get older can be harder but it is doable. I seem to lose a few pounds then they find me again but we can't give up.

Congrats on being a 20 year cancer survivor! My daughter had both breasts removed and has been a cancer survivor for about 8 years now! It's awesome to hear about those of you who endured so much and made it through.

Yes, it is so true that with extra pounds also comes health woes. We need to think of that and keep it in mind when we are trying so hard to lose. Even losing a few pounds makes a difference in our health!

You've certainly lived in many places, were they mostly while growing up? And you've even lived in Canada! I live in Southern Ontario, Canada but haven't traveled much in my own country and would love to!

What kind of cards do you make? And do you sell them or keep them or maybe give to family for gifts? Sounds really interesting. I'm with you ... I loved to cook and bake when I had family living with me but now that I'm alone, I don't have the interest and it is also hard for me to stand for long with my wonky back and poor balance. It does make a big difference, doesn't it!

Again, welcome to our team, I'm really glad you chose to join us and look forward to chatting with you on the chat thread. Just jump right in, get to know the ladies, they're all super nice and in no time, you'll feel right at home!

Hi, My name is Carole and I'm 75. A small team thatís not challenge orientated of people in my own age group sounds doable for me. I've been a member of Spark People for a long time but have never managed to lose much weight. Starting fresh with more determination, maybe I'll have more success this time.
I have two grown kids, 48 and 40. No grandchildren. I was born in California and have lived in a lot of great places. (Texas, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Alabama, Louisiana, Maryland, Illinois, Idaho, Nebraska, In Canada, Montreal, Windsor, and France) but I have lived here in Ohio for the last 40 Years and I will be tickled pink if I can live here until I die.
As with most elderly, obese people there's a list of health issues. COPD, A ruptured disk with degenerative disease, a bum ankle from a break, incontinence, lymphedema, from having my breast removed 20 years ago. (Hooray! 20 year survivor of breast cancer!). God's been good to me, no Diabetes or heart problems. I do have some problems with swelling in my legs and feet but after tests my doctor thinks it's too much salt in my diet. I think it might have to do with this last 20 pounds I've gained.
I make cards for a hobby. It's a lot of fun. I use to collect recipes and loved cooking but my back makes it more about collecting than cooking.
Well now you know everything about meÖ I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better. My hope is that we can help each other along this journey of healthier living.

Have a GREAT day!

I joined Spark years ago and like most I have been off and on, back and forth. Today I'm looking forward to staying a while and enjoy being on this team. emoticon

Jackie, welcome to our team. I'm glad you chose ours to join and hope you find what you seek. We aren't into challenges very much but we do like to chat on our chat thread, it's a nice social place to join in. We're friendly, supportive and we share our days on that thread.

Now that sounds interesting, living in an RV, would like to hear more about it, sounds like fun to me! That's something how your brother feels about you having gained weight over the years. It seems to be a battle that most women have and it's really a shame that others do not understand and work at helping us when we genuinely want to take steps to get it off.

So you've joined the right Healthy Lifestyle site, I'd say read lots of blogs on SP, use the food tracker, it really IS amazing how many calories we take in when we don't keep track. I use mine daily and when I slip it is always an eye opener to me!!

Looking forward to seeing you on the threads, do join in on whichever ones suit you.

I found the Spark page while looking for a way to keep track of my calories. Found this small group of old people while looking around the site. I am 82 and currently in Oregon, but I live in an RV and have for 15 years traveling around. My brother, who is very size conscience, asked me how I let myself gain 50 pounds. I told him, I didn't, I let myself gain 2 pounds that month and 5 pounds that year, etc. But of course I want to take it all off in I was astounded at how many calories I was eating everyday. No wonder I am fat.

Welcome to the team Jane. I love it that our team has stayed small, it will be nice if/when a few more join but I've led large teams and been on large teams and much prefer these smaller one. I deliberately did not add real challenges when I started up the team ... many in our age bracket just do not want the challenges and I know what you mean by younger folks on big challenge teams getting after you! Not for me, whew, I walk for my exercise and figure we all do what exercises we wish and don't need to be challenged!! I'm firm about that, lol.

Sometimes our age bracket does stop businesses from hiring us and though it isn't fair, I'm afraid that's how it goes in life.

Sounds like you have a very nice family and that's wonderful! I have 4 grown grandsons and 2 small great-grandchildren, I think the younger ones keep me young, etc.

Again, welcome to the team and I'm glad to see you jumping in on the threads that appeal to you. And you can trust that I won't get after you about anything, lol. I'm glad to see you here, hope you decide to come on the chat thread and get to know us.

I am Jane (or Janie) and have been a member of SP for nine years. It seems like I go on and off this program, but I always come back. Boomerang! I am here to lose weight. That's my main goal. I have tried every diet around going back to the sixties. It is fun to join a team of similarly aged folks, since you may all remember such things as Irwin Maxwell Stillman and his diet. SOOO long ago. Tried it and failed. Joined Weight Watchers so many times I probably hold some kind of record. First time I joined WW I was sixteen and my mother had to OK it. Since she needed to lose 100 pounds and was attending with me! I think I weighed all of about 150 pounds and felt SO huge. Oh what I wouldn't give to be 150 pounds again!

At any rate, this team looked appealing to me because of the age group, the small size, and the lack of deathly competition! I joined a Summer Challenge last year and it was the most intense group of women. If you didn't post every day in several areas and continue to lose weight, they were on the war path! I was the only old broad on the team. At this age, we all know that life's too short for the war path.

So here goes:
I am 71 years old, 72 in January. I was born in Independence, Missouri, and have lived in the Kansas City area as well as Omaha, Denver, and now Lakeland, Florida (midway between Orlando and Tampa). I have been married to Bob for 44 years this October. We have three kids: Steve 42, Scott 40, and Stacy 38. Stacy has two children, Jordan 10 and Audrey 3. They are my only grandchildren and the loves of my life.

I am retired after many years in the workforce. I have a BA in Business and some credits on a Masters . . . but not interested in finishing it. I have worked 10 years at Hallmark Cards (KC), 10 years at National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine (Denver), 4 years at Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha), and 15 years for Community of Chriist (Missouri and Florida). Most of my work was in financial areas like grant management at medical schools and financial management for church jurisdictions. Retirement has benefits, but I really miss working. I have tried to get a job, but for the very first time in my life, I have interviewed and not been hired. Since I'm well-qualified and have impeccable references, I suppose it is my advancing years! I'm not decrepit, but no one has figured this out! I really wanted a job at the library just checking books and and out, and didn't get that job! LOL

I love to read and do creative writing. I enjoy cooking (sometimes). I'm obsessed with flip shows which is hilarious since I have no intention of moving. HGTV is my guilty pleasure!

I'm happy to meet you all and look forward to our adventures together.

From sunny Lakeland, Florida

Welcome to the team Peggy, it's good to see you here. You've given yourself a year to get the weight off and it's great that you're giving yourself the time to do it right! Since you've been on SP before, you know what it's about - the best info to help you and many awesome members to cheer you on!

Yes, it is harder to get the weight off as we age but it isn't impossible. I've been kind of lax with my issues about it and need to buckle down and get at it. We're more of a chatty team than challenges, etc., so please make yourself at home. Come on any threads you wish, they are there for you.

See you on the team!

Hi everyone! I am new today to the team. My name is Peggy, I am 70 and I live in Victoria BC. I have been working on a very stressful sedentary job for the last 10 years, and have allowed myself to gain a lot of weight especially over the last two years. I need to keep motivated to get back in shape before I embarrass myself at our family reunion in 2019. I was a Spark member 10 years ago when I was overseas and not working. I had all the time in the world to work on myself, and I reached my goal fairly easily. Now that I have retired, I hope to do the same again, only I expect it will be a bit slower this time! I have 12 months to do this, and I'm ready! Retirement is going to be wonderful!

Hi Virginia, welcome to our team! I'm glad you chose to join us. We have something in common, I have a daughter with Down Syndrome and she is 45 this year. She now lives with her oldest sister who is 62 and they are as close as two peas in a pod, she is happy living there. Her name is Melissa.

So good to see that you reached your goal weight and with all the gym sessions, you'll be staying at goal too! You have a lot of nice hobby's too, you sure sound like a busy woman and that keeps a person young!

Welcome to the team!

I'm Virginia, I'm 78 born in Texas, living in Calif. Married for 61 years this last April.
I want to keep my body healthy. Joined Sparks in 2008, and just last Oct met my weight goal of 125 pounds, so I usually go to the gym on M,W.& F. I usually do a couple of hours workout.
When someone ask me how many children I have. I usually just say 5 daughters, but 3 are in heaven from a house fire in 1977. I wonít go into that here because it sometimes causes me to have flashback of the incident. Iíve been a Grandmother now for 34 years. I have one granddaughter. She was married in November last year. I'm so happy that she has found the love of her life. This will be the Joy of my life, since she is so special to all of us. Her husband has 1 son thatís 8 years old.
Our youngest daughter is down syndrome that is 39 years old, that still lives at home. She has a good program that she attends during the week, she keeps us busy with her bowling and square dancing.
We live in California . My hobby's are genealogy, stamps, gardening, sewing, some quilting,& little knitting, & photography, in the summer lots of Swimming. I'm happy to meet new friend on this and some other Sparks teams.

I told my girls Goodnight one night, and all but one was gone to heaven, by the next morning !
We never stop missing them, even though it has been 42 years this year.

emoticon to our team Rita, it's a fairly new team but such awesome members here! I do believe we're going to be a very supportive group and I'm glad to have you a part of it.

You've had a lot of health issues so focus on healing your body is a priority for you. I do think losing some of our excess weight really helps, and I'm working hard to get my weight down too.

So glad you joined. See you on the threads.

Hello,
My name is Rita. I am married with one son. I am looking forward to God and this team to get healthy inside and out.

I have been through alot these past few years with the first diagnosis being high blood pressure in 2011. From there type 2 diabetes 2012, anemia 2013, breast cancer 2015, congestive heart failure 2016, and a stroke in 2017.

Though all of this the Lord has kept me and I am grateful!

Now to heal I must focus on doing the things that will bring healing in my body. Weight loss is an important factor for all of this through exercise/movement and nutrition.

I am ready!

Hi to you also Veronica and welcome to the team. Yay on your plan to prove your doctor wrong! I believe in my doctor but will question his ideas at times too, they're smart but don't always know everything. You're very active, I know you can do it!

I don't know if you know anyone else on the team, I know a couple of the members and see that some are already on another team together. So, we're all going to be great friends. Takes a while to get to know everyone.

Again, welcome to the team, I'm so glad that you chose to join us here!

Hi Irene, welcome to the team. It IS really nice to be in on the beginning of a new team and I'm so glad you chose to join us. Also glad you feel right at home already, that's great!

My daughter had a mastectomy also and has been cancer free about 7 years now. From seeing what all she went through, I can empathize with you.

I'm sorry you've lost your husband and so good of you to care for him when he had Alzheimer's, that's such a terrible thing to have.

Ohh, nice to have a son living with you and another close by.

Again, welcome to our team, it's really nice to have you on it!

Hi Everyone. I'm Veronica. I just turned 70 in December. I'm happily remarried (3-1/2 years). We live in Oregon.
My doctor recently told me I'm basically too old to lose weight because I have a slow thyroid, I take steroids for asthma, I've been dieting for 50 years and I don't sleep well. Ha! I plan to prove her wrong.
I'm a vegan (mostly). This is day 280. Sadly, becoming vegan didn't help me to lose any weight (possibly for the reasons my doctor listed) but my triglycerides dropped from 363 to 161 in only two months. I may not be losing weight, but my health is improving without the aid of medication.
For exercise, I walk and do strength training. When I can drag myself to the gym, I ride the bike and row on the rowing machine. Now that the warm weather is here, I'll be doing a little gardening. And, I'm learning Tai Chi, which I love. Oh, and I work out with a kettlebell, which I also love.
I'm really happy about joining your team. I hope we can all be great friends.
Veronica

Hi Nola, so happy to have you here! I have a good friend from England on another team and really enjoy getting to know about her country. I'd love to know more about Australia and see photos if you feel like putting some on for us.

The team is for 70's and beyond so no, you definitely are not too old for us. Matter of fact, I'm even older than you but I don't act or feel like it, lol.

You have a nice family Nola and aren't the wee great-grandchildren wonderful to have? My great-grandson is 6 years old and my great-granddaughter is 7 months old.

Come on the chat thread, that's a good place to get to know everyone. Look forward to seeing you there.

Hi everyone I am Nola. I have been in Sparks since 2013. I live in Western Australia. I am almost too old for here as I will be 80 in December. Doesn't feel like it but there is nothing I can do about it. Have 2 sons, and 6 Grandkids and one Great-grandson and just celebrated 50years married to my DH.

I enjoy the garden and outdoors, would rather be mowing grass than doing housework. Love my computer and jigsaws. Have a not so well husband, so he does have top priority in my life.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Judy, I'm so glad to be on a same team as you again. My youngest grandson became a father last September when his wife gave birth to a daughter. So that is two great-grandchildren that I have so far. You'll love the great-grands, I'm getting a kick out of mine, they are so loving and friendly!

It's good to see you here, hope you enjoy the team. Do enjoy the rest of this week!

Hi, I'm Judy. I have known Gloria here on SparkPeople for a few years now. I live in southern Ontario. I have been married to Ted for 51 years. We have two sons and a daughter, all married, and 5 grandchildren. Our oldest granddaughter got married in 2017. We are hoping to someday become great grandparents.

I enjoy reading, surfing the net, sewing, knitting, jigsaw puzzles, and photography. In the summer, I like to putter in the garden. Walking is my main form of exercise.

Hi Mel and welcome to our team, I am thrilled that you chose to join! And it has been a LONG time since I was leader of Classy 70's ... that team has changed quite a bit. But you and I go back quite a ways.

I'm really glad you are re-committing yourself to your program - when it works, work it!

Good to see you here! You are so welcome!

Hi all, my name is Melanie, but I often I sign as Mel. I live on the north coast of California with my husband. Our two daughters and their families also live here in the same coastal town.

I first got to know Gloria on the Classy 70s team where she had recently been the leader. Seems a long time ago now, doesn't it Gloria?

At 77 I am a seven year stroke survivor and trying to keep my weight down and be as healthy as I can. I mostly walk for my exercise. I am eating mostly the WFPB (Whole Foods Plant Based) way and have been successful in lowering my cholesterol and blood pressure on this program. I do believe I could go completely off my medications if I really worked the program. With this in mind I am just now this week re-committing myself to my program. It is my challenge for the rest of 2018!

Very happy to meet all of you,
Mel

Hi Michele, great to see you here! So far, all of you are in your 70's and I'll bet we all feel like we're much younger. Our minds stay the same, it is our body that ages!

How wonderful that you, too, have found what works for your diabetes. Wow, imagine going off the insulin! Wow!

Come on the chat thread and let's get chatting!

Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

Good afternoon ALL! In January of this year I hit the 3 quarter of a century plus one mark. Strange though I am finding myself not feeling the age but, younger. Have been with Spark now for 7 years now and still enjoying the information and friendly chats I find with Spark.

I recently started Paleo Life style eating and find I am slowly reversing my Type 2 Diabetes. I am hoping that within the next 2 months I will be able to say good by to Insulin once and for all. I have been a Diabetic since 1976 and on Insulin since 1991 and am looking forward to a much healthier Lifestyle.

Looking forward to chatting!

Michele - Central Ohio

Welcome to the team Bev Anne, another Canadian besides myself! Good to know that diet has reversed your diabetes, I know diabetes can be a difficult thing to live with. My ex had it and I had to give him his insulin injections.

My main exercise is walking too ... do you walk outdoors or in the malls? It will be nice when our real Spring begins, so we can get out walking more.

I'm glad you chose to join the team Bev Anne, come on any/all threads you wish, make yourself at home!

Hi! I'm Bev Anne and I live on Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada. I live in a small house with my husband. I have 2 children, 2 daughters-in-law and 2 wonderful grandsons but none of them live close by.

I eat a lowcarb ketogenic diet which has reversed my diabetes. My weight loss is slow but my health is good.

My main passion is photography and I also like to read, watch TV and do jigsaw puzzles. I also knit and/or crochet sometimes when I watch TV but I don't complete my projects very quickly.

My exercise is minimal but I do attend a Tai Chi class.

I'm Gloria and am leader of this team. I live in SW Ontario, Canada. Separated for 3 1/2 years; I have 5 grown children; 4 grown grandsons; 2 great-grandchildren.

I live on my own in an apartment, first time in my life that I've ever lived in an apt. Took a while to get used to and I still miss my back yard, flower gardens, patio, but when life gives us lemons, we make lemon pie!

My family, walking, exercising, laptop, Sudoku, adult colouring books keep me busy. I like to knit but don't do much these days.
