What do you like to do for fun: reading, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, arts/crafts, knitting

What diet are you following: portion control and logging via Spark app (future plans to get more strict on food choices... baby steps are key for me!)

What is your favorite exercise: I would love to be able to get up and dance/play volleyball again... I get inspired watching both. I’m most successful with yoga right now, dabbled in weightlifting before C19 ruined my gym membership.

Personal challenge: lack of space at home for workouts, husband not committed to same goals, work makes eating on a schedule difficult, quitting smoking

This is my first 5%!

2 random/fun facts: I live with my husband of 10 years this July, son, hubby’s parents, and hubby’s brother. My son is 5 and has an autism diagnosis- he couldn’t care less and is the happiest kid on the planet!

Anything else? I love the colors purple and green, I wish I had a big fat bulldog, I’m a pharmacist, and I really look forward to getting myself put back together 😊

What do you like to do for fun? lots of things but with Covid only stay home and take care of my father who is 94.

What diet are you following? just watching my calories and macros

What is your favorite exercise? Walk outdoors, which I don't like to do in the winter: Strength train. I would like to get back into running once it gets warm in Wisconsin again.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Overcoming some issues with fibroid tumor pain in my abdomen makes exercise challenging.

My name is Ruth - no real nickname

For fun I like walking, hiking (but at the moment I'm dealing with a sore knee and foot), I like taking photos (mainly nature), and pre-covid spending time with my grandkids.

Not really following a specific diet but focusing on more fruit and veggies, less sugar and carbs.

My favourite exercise before plantar fasciitis was walking but now it's the exercise bike (less stress on foot and knee).

My personal challenge this season is to increase my water intake and healthier eating.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. - I did the previous challenge and nothing earth shattering but it helps to keep me on track to have the daily discipline and accountability.

Some random facts:
1. The year I retired we took 4 months to travel across Canada and back visiting friends/family and sightseeing.
2. We have two terrier-mix dogs who like to travel with us. As long as they are with us, they are happy and so are we.

One other thing:
One of the things I've been doing since COVID-19 has us all staying closer to home is virtual walks. I've done the Camino walk, Appalachin Trail, across NS, NB, the Cabot Trail, Hadrian's Wall, and now Iceland. Some of these I did solo but some I did as a team. There are 4 of us doing the Iceland one now. Really been enjoying these - we get emails when we reach milestones that tell us about the area and we get to plant trees at certain spots so it is good environmentally plus it keeps us active.

What diet are you following? Nothing specific. More fruits and vegetables, fewer simple carbs, stay under calorie limit.

What is your favorite exercise? - I love walking (not on a treadmill) and I'm just now remembering how much I loved ballet as a kid by doing Xtend Barre

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Just to find some kind of exercise a day no matter what (I suffer from migraines so some days are harder than others)

2 random fun facts about you? - I rescued my first raccoon in 2020. She's now happily living in a friend's yard, but I still miss her. I love college football and softball. Oklahoma State is my favorite team.

Anything else you would like to share? When I have to use a treadmill because of bad weather or time, I pick a tv show on Netflix that I can only watch when I'm working out. Last year was Orange is the New Black until stupid COVID hit and made me stay home.

What diet are you following? SP's recommended caloric intake per day.
What is your favorite exercise? Don't really have a favorite exercise. However, because I've been so sedentary for more years than I care to count, I'm starting with walking on my treadmill and riding my converted stationery bike.
Personal challenge: Giving up with the onset of knee pain. Stretching and warming up may diminish the pain. Need to learn to push through and not be so discouraged when I struggle.
This is my first 5% challenge.
Two random fun facts: 1) Blended family where all of the girls' names start with a D and the boys' names start with a S. 2) Finally embracing the "empty nest" lifestyle - and loving it!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Yes. I fell in October, had surgery to put in a plate and screws in ring finger and a pin in middle finger of left hand. Currently going to Physical therapy twice a week to get back use of hand.

What is your name or nickname? My name is Cathy, but I like Cate

What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy walking although I've been sidelined due to knee pain since the beginning of October. Thankfully, my knee is finally doing better and I am walking 1 mile a day as I build back up to a pain-free knee. I also like to read, do puzzles, play games, watch football, and cook. In the summer I enjoy working in my garden. I love traveling but that's not happening for a while.

What diet are you following? I use the SP tracker and try to stay in the 1200-1500 calorie range most days.

What is your favorite exercise? It was walking, but with rehab, we have gotten a stationary bike and I'm trying to work up to enjoying the bike.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Just trying to rehab my knee. I had arthroscopy and have been doing PT for 7 weeks now. Things are finally getting better.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done many 5% challenges but sat out the fall challenge and am returning. I have always been on the Teddy Bear team but will be on the Starfish this time.

2 random fun facts about you?
I am a retired middle school math teacher but I am spacially challenged. It made me have to focus and it also helped me to empathize with my students.

About 2 years ago I was on the casual team which I really liked, met some nice women and didn't get overwhelmed and stressed by competition. Lost most weeks but not the complete 5%.


2 random fun facts about you?
I sold Avon for 35 years and was in the top 10 in the region many years - even won a trip to Bahama. I always bought a failed Corgi show dog for my companion.

Anything else you would like to share?
I had a stroke and sometimes don't make sense; but since I have a weird sense of humour I say that you misunderstood my joke.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Winter is always tough. I tend to gain weight during the holidays and then fight to get it off. Gaining the weight plus seasonal darkness causes me to get somewhat depressed. I know this so I focus on positive things and try to get the extra few pounds off.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I love the challenge. I need to be accountable. I haven't lost 5% during a challenge but I've hit 5% shortly after a couple of times.

2 random fun facts about you? I love metal, prog, punk and goth music. We go to concerts a lot and you will see me head banging. One regret...I've never been in a mosh pit.

Anything else you would like to share? I hope we all have a successful challenge and I appreciate all of the leaders and the work they put in to help us! Thank you!!

What do you like to do for fun? #1 teach/watch/be around little kids. ( I used to teach the 2-3 and 4-6 classes at the taekwondo studio we went to and helped with the afterschool program before we went belly up due to covid, and used to teach children's church at our church, also gone but only temporarily, I hope. # 2 watch tv #3 play with my own kids #4 play video games. ( these are not in order btw)

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? moving, well maybe soonish. working with Habitat for Humanity, everything is crazy with covid restrictions we arent' even allowed on site right now but have been told things are moving forward. closing process may start as soon as mid Jan. but that's if they can get to all the things the inspector found when he was out the week before Christmas. I think it''s a lot to ask one person but guess they know more than me. add to that just being a wife and mother of a teen girl and son with special needs. life is always a challenge.

What do you like to do for fun? Right now I am knitting scrubbies for my kitchen and for my sister. I am also planning to start to crochet a backpack for my youngest granddaughter.

What diet are you following? I am not on any specific diet. I had major surgery in November and have lost 20 lbs. Right now I am making sure I get enough protein and balanced meals.

What is your favorite exercise? walking. .It's the only one I can do now. Hopefully I will be able to do some yoga

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Just recovering from surgery. Learning that I am not 100% and that I need to cut back at times.

What do you like to do for fun? Fun? What is that? I like to shop, spend time with family, read, cook, walk.

What diet are you following? WW Blue.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? My challenge started with a new job that started in November. I work long hours and don't have time during the day for activity. It is very sedentary. Right now, things are very busy.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've been doing these for years. I think I started these either in 2015 or 2016. I love the challenges. They keep me on track and focused. I struggled with the last challenge, keeping up with my posting and exercise minutes. I'm going to be working on getting back on track.

2 random fun facts about you? I don't own a TV and my son works as a news producer. Nothing against TV except I don't have time to watch it and there are other things I want to be doing with my time. So, I watch Youtube videos of things I am interested in. I love minimalist/declutter videos. I watch one and then go clean or declutter something.

What is your name or nickname? Carla

What do you like to do for fun? Paper crafting, baking, cake decorating, bakery blitz & kitchen scramble facebook games, township & frontier games with my husband, board games, reading.

What diet are you following? Im not following anything in particular, Im really going to work on eating more fruits and veggies and more water instead of the sugary drinks that I have been drinking way too much of.

What is your favorite exercise? Deep water aerobics classes, swimming or bike riding (leisurely).

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Ive been struggling with severe back pain, I am doing my physical therapy exercises. I may also have surgery on my hand for carpal tunnel, but not sure when.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I like the accountability and the challenges

2 random fun facts about you? I collect old Disney comic books such as mickey, goofy, dumbo, and such. I tap danced on stage until 2009, would have in 2010, but had a medical issue that made me stop. I loved to tap dance, and wish I could get back into it.

Anything else you would like to share? I like to make my crafts to give to others.

What is your name or nickname? I'm Julie. Don't really use a nickname any more except with my husband.

What do you like to do for fun? Camping, cooking and journaling

What diet are you following? No longer believe in "diets" but trying very hard to make good choices.

What is your favorite exercise? I love my recumbent bike but I'm struggling health issues with my legs.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? I am in physical therapy for chronic Achilles Tendonosis.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done not done a 5% Challenge, but have been a part of one other team challenge.

2 random fun facts about you? I am very distantly related to Larry King and my husband is related to Lawrence Welk.

What is your name or nickname? Jill is my given name but for some reason many call me Jillian.

What do you like to do for fun? Walking, reading, being with my family and friends (when allowed), being with my dogs.

What diet are you following? Just trying to keep up on my tracking. I am horrible at that.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking my German Shepherd, dancing, or water aerobics

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? I am now walking on my treadmill instead of outside. I like outside so much better. Also the tracking thing.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done several previous 5% challenges. This will be my 3rd 5% challenge. I am on the Spirited Under Dawgs team and truly enjoy that group.

2 random fun facts about you? I enjoy trying new recipes but getting my daughter on board can be tough. I really do learning about health and wellness.

I like to eat. I can even over eat veggies with no toppings.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I was on the Rowdy Rebels a few different times. It keeps me accountable.

2 random fun facts about you? My cat is named Tigger and he is such a sweetie. My 10 year anniversary is coming up in February.

I am pescatarain working toward a more plant-based way of eating. But I do love my dairy and fish, so...

What is your favorite exercise?
Running, yoga, weights, HIIT, and I'm going to start pole after the holidays!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season?
I have 5 kids home all the time now. Homeschooling three of them. Oldest goes to a charter (which the boys will go to next year) and about the time this challenge starts, the youngest will be around 6 months old. Finding time to work out at home or leave to the gym has been a challenge.

I did the Spring 2020 challenge while I was nearing the end of my pregnancy. It was a fun way to keep motivated to keep active while pregnant, something I'd never really done in my previous pregnancies.

2 random fun facts about you?
I've actually always wanted to homeschool my kids and this shut down was somewhat of a Godsend in that aspect. I have always sucked at math, but numbers and analytics are comforting to me.

My friend who just finished chemo when Covid kicked in and who stays 80 miles away across county borders when they decide to put us all in different restriction tiers has been staying with mum and me since March 2020. I love her to bits but its hard balancing her needs and frustrations with mums (90 at Christmas) needs and still find a space for me time with just me. My current challenge is not to blow up at 5 times a day. As I never married or had children I never learned how to say no nicely.

What is your name or nickname?
I'm Barb. Here on Spark a lot of people shorten my username to OKM.

What do you like to do for fun?
I am a bit of a sports fan, but 2020 has done a number on that... also a book-worm (reader for fun), fond of good TV / movie writing.

What diet are you following?
I would describe it as my son once did: "the guy diet". He explained to me that when women dieted they went to extremes of planning and it took a lot of energy, but when GUYS would diet, they just "cut down a little" and worked out more.

What is your favorite exercise?
Walking, at the moment.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season?
Heck, we have a National and Global challenge this season! The pandemic. Just trying to stay safe and healthy, physically and mentally.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
This will be only my second. I didn't do so great on the scale with the 2020 Fall Challenge (I think I was the worst on my team)... some of the LTGL items kicked up a rebellion in me. So... trying again, to prove to myself that I CAN do better.

2 random fun facts about you?
Left handed, which as most lefties will tell you is a mix: write leftie, cut right-handed... play tennis right-handed... and love that this makes me "sinister", because I was always a "goodie two shoes" kind of kid.

I'm a fan-girl of Triathlon... and still count meeting Leada Cave and Sister Madonna Buder (who likely have NO CLUE who I am) among my fondest memories. If you have no clue who they are, it's ok. Leanda was World Champ at two distances in the same year (70.3 and 140.6 miles). Sister Madonna is "The Iron Num" who was doing full Ironman distance races (140.6 miles) into her 80's.

Oh, I probably do WAY TOO MUCH sharing as a blogger...!

What do you like to do for fun? Read play on my computer and connect with people.

What diet are you following? None at this moment and that is a big problem.

What is your favorite exercise? Swimming but I have no access to a pool so I am lookiing at exercise machines. I welcome any suggestions but I need something that will not be too hard on my knees.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? Getting my mobility back.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have been doing these challenges for a while now and I have been losing some weight but I have never hit my 5%.

What is your name or nickname?

My name is P.R.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to spend time in my kitchen. I love to cook and bake and teach my daughter how to do the same. My fam calls it my "Laboratory" LOL!

What diet are you following?

I follow Spark People calories count but not macros or anything strenuous like that!

What is your favorite exercise?

I was introduced to the Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds about 2 years ago. I love doing her workouts and interspersing Zumba Gold, chair exercises and other dance exercises for variety.

Personal challenge:


I personally have been in quarantine for almost the whole time since March and have not had the Covid affect me or my close fam personally. My sister, on the other hand, has refused to wear a mask or social distance climing they didn't want to "Stop living their lives." (she lives in a different state where the Covid restrictions are more lax) So she and her husband and 5 members of her family are stricken with Covid right now. She is 74, her husband is 78 and her son is 49. Her DH and her son are in the hospital. This is very hard on me emotionally and I am an emotional eater. Will need lots of support through this. Thanks!

My first 5% challenge was this last Fall challenge. I really enjoyed it. I didn't lose 5% but I lost more than I think I would have on my own. I was on the last traveler standing 'til the end and I am excited to be back for more! Especially during the Holiday season!

2 random fun facts about you?

I lived in Australia for a couple of years in my 20's, my initials are carved on the Sydney harbor bridge...

I went to NYC as a teenager for the Bicentennial celebration and my name at the time was written in pencil inside the Statue of Liberty along with all my classmates. I know, BAD DOG!!! (I'm sure it has been painted over by now over 40 years later LOL!)

My nickname: In real life, I don't have one

What do I like to do for fun? Dancing, yoga, weaving, quilting. Picking up knitting again. Computer games.

Favorite exercise: dance, especially body groove and zumba

What diet am I following? Calorie restriction, but I also need to cut all kinds of foods because of my thyroid

Personal challenge: Downsizing.

Previous challenges. I've done the last two and enjoyed them. The challenge is a gentle accountability tool for me. Having the final weigh in right after Thanksgiving was a little brutal, though. I did consider doing it on Thursday morning. Oh well...

2 random facts about me. I bought an old rv to live in when I retire. I'm kinda learning Navajo.
