emoticon You guys were just what I needed today. Just got back from our C25K training. I downloaded the 5K101 someone mentioned and it's much more motivating.

I took the advice and slowed down but worked on endurance. I couldn't push myself past 5 mins on Saturday but tonight we pushed through 2 12 min sessions. The start of the 2nd 12 min session was even up hill and I was so proud to complete that part even though I knew I still had 10 more minutes to go once at the top of the hill.

Motivation, positive words and great people can get you through anything. Thanks guys. I look forward to posting and reading more about my fellow 5Ker's.

Brooke,
I agree it's a great motivator to have someone workout with you and support you. I have my son and a good friend. Good luck in your 2 5k's.

I'm a brand new runner and am training for a 5k in September. I thought I was downloading the c25k podcast but I downloaded 5k101 instead, and it has been good! I have one more day of the 2nd week of training, so I'm a little ahead of schedule! I must be improving my cardio because I did tae bo cardio today and did the whole 45 minute workout! I've NEVER been able to do that!!!

Stop and close your eyes. See yourself running the whole 10 minutes. Believe you can do it...I mean with your whole hear and you will do it. Remember to slow down....speed isn't the issue - building the endurance is.

Thanks..I'm using my Droid with an APP for C25K so I just have to wait for it to tell me to run again. I've loaded another one that work with my own music. I'm going to try that tonight to see if it helps. It beeps when it's time to run and does something else when it's time to walk. Tonight is run 10 then walk then run 10.

You will find if you can lower your HR downward and relax it definitely will help. Also, it helps if you have either a watch that beeps at the end of an interval or a timer of some type that beeps or vibrates you won't be constantly looking at how much more time you have. That alone helps.

Lightning I haven't tried that but I will. I'm not moving that fast but maybe for me I am. I've been wearing a heart monitor once a week and seems I'm staying in the 174 - 177 range when running. We've got about 6 more session I think until our 5K so I'll try changing up a bit and see how that makes me feel.

Hi Brooke ... Welcome. You are doing great - having someone in person to train with is a fantastic motivational tool.

I can't tell you about changing your stride. You could force yourself to take long strides when running, but reality is your body is doing what comes naturally to it. Changing your running form should only be done with the help of a skilled running coach. You can injure yourself.

I am sure you won't like to hear this, but have you tried slowly down during your running...it will make it more enjoyable and you may find that you can run for longer if you aren't pushing yourself. If you can't talk while running, but you would rather not then you are going to hard.

Hi I'm Brooke and new to the C25K team. I originally started my C25K training 2 years ago and then flopped when we can back from summer vacation. I did great while on vacation but then just got behind in life and didn't put myself first. I restarted in January 2010 an started off with a bang. Again...life always gets in the way. I decided to take a stand and sign up for a 5K. At least this would keep me on track. So far....so good. I did take a one week break. But jumped right back on track.

My nephew and I have been training faithfully the past 2 week and still have 2 weeks until our first 5K. I have struggled this past week with the humidity but still try to improve my time each time. We walk the 5K on our non-run days and have been improving on that time also. I still can't run for more than about 8 minutes at a time, sometimes not even the 8 minutes. This weekend I struggled but found relief in running/jogging as long as I could and then taking a 10 second count to walk and then start back up.

I am hoping that now that I am over my cold I can press forward and run longer times. Sometimes I feel like I am running in place. I need to work on increasing my stride. My walk stride is long but my jog stride seems to be really short. Any advise on correcting this would be great.

Looking forward to running our first 5K on July 3rd and then our second on July 10th. Call me crazy, but one is back home and one is in my current city and I couldn't decide which to run so....we signed up for both. My nephew is a great help and orginally was just going to run it to keep me company. Now he's looking more into how well he can do.

We are at W6D3 today...our best time so far is 45min for the whole 5K. (Our best time walking it is 54min) emoticon
