emoticon to the team, ZNCSMOM1. You certainly shoulder a lot of responsibility as a military wife and mother of two young ones. The good news is that you do not have to take this journey alone. This team and SP as a whole is here to help keep you motivated, focused and supported as your journey toward that healthier you. What a great example you are setting for your kids. Not only will all of you begin eating healthier, but you are showing them firsthand that it is never too late to change. You CAN and WILL succeed.

Just stopping by to give a quick howdie-do to everyone.

I've battled with depression, with myself, friends and family, for a long time and if anyone ever needs someone to vent to / bounce ideas off of / just someone who is a willing listening ear, I'm here for you.

I try to remain positive in my life and keep things light, breezy, so that I don't get bogged down, but we all get our bad days and I hope I can help if you need it...

Welcome, ZNCSMOM1! That sounds like a pretty stressful life - my older brother is in the military and I know how stressed my sister-in-law can be, especially with my two year old nephew and a new one along the way! I'm glad you are are; this is an incredibly supportive community and I know we would love to help you along the way. :)

Hello!! I am turning 30 years old next week and I have decided that it is time to take better care of myself. I have never been "thin" but I have been close to it. This year I am at my heaviest weight. I weigh what I did the day I had my oldest son :/ I have 2 little boys and have been married to my amazing husband for 11 years. I have always struggled with anxiety disorder and panic attacks. I have started going to the gym with my friend and I still have panic attacks 75% of the time but I just go to the locker room until it peaks and goes away and then try and return to my workout. It has been very challenging and I have often used food as my best friend. My husband is military is deploys often and we move constantly where I have to meet new people. That is not very easy when you have anxiety and depression. So I have decided to try and make some changes so that I can be healthier and feel better about myself and be a better example for my boys:) Look forward to getting healthier and happier with you all.

emoticon back NUTTMEGG9 aka Megg. I'm so sorry you got so sick at the end of last year and it caused your weight to go up. The good news is that this can change one small, healthy choice at a time. Try not to do too much so that you don't get overwhelmed. Losing weight is about a healthy journey and it takes time to exchange old habits for new. If you need anything at all, please feel free to give a holler. You are not alone.

Hi, I'm Megg and this is my second time starting with SP. I was doing well when I joined in Nov, but then got sick and depressed and ate and ate and ate. Now I gained back about 20 pounds and just feel terrible about myself. I plan on sticking with the program this time, but I will probably need some help!

emoticon to the team, MS_CDHARRIS. SP is a great place to find support, motivation and hints to get past troublesome times in our lives. You certainly have a lot going between being a teacher, your daughter and your BF. However it is always important to carve even 10 minutes a day out just for you. Remember you are taking care of your daughter's mommy and she, your BF and you deserve the very best you. You can do this!

I am new to all of this and I'm finally excited about something. Its tough trying to be the strong and supportive one with no one to truly support me. I have a busy and cute daughter to stay happy and healthy for. I have a great boyfriend who is also on the journey with me to lose weight. We were both walking sticks and now we're far from it (over ten years ago). Its nice to see a page for people that suffer from the ups and DOWNS and not judge each other. Here's to healthy living (psychologically and physically)/

Hi. I'm Alex. I've been on SparkPeople for two years but have been too shy/afraid to take advantage of many of the social aspects. I've been depressed and had anxiety and panic attacks since high school and recently took a nosedive for the worse, though I'm happy to say that the dive has leveled back out! Some days are just a lot rougher than others, and it's hard to explain that to someone who's never been there. Some days, I just feel very alone, even though I have my parents, sister, close friend, and a bratty cat who likes to steal things. I just miss having people to talk to that I don't have to hide things around, and I'm hoping to find that here. My family is too used to me putting on a brave face and stuffing all the feelings, and, you know, that's just not healthy!

Anyway, I think what I'm trying to get at is to say hi and that I hope to spend some time with you all from here on out. :)

emoticon to the team, PENNYS2006 aka Penny. No one is meant to be "alone, depressed, suffering from panic and anxiety attacks." You have a condition that needs to have the right doctor dealing with it. Don't ever give up the fight to find the right doctor. There is one out there that can help you deal with the issues at hand. The great news here though is that while we are not doctors, we can help you stay motivated and supported as you continue to deal with the medical issues. We are here 24/7/365 and have many, many threads in which you can join the conversation or just peruse the topic at hand. We want to help you succeed and you WILL! You are NOT alone on this journey to a healthier you.

Hi my name is Penny.

I have the issues of anxiety, depression, the fear of outdoors and panic attacks. I am a mother of 4 teenage boys ages of 17, 16, 15, and 13. The 15 yr old is my step son where as the other 3 are mine. I am unemployed, because it is way to much for me to go outside. I have this HUGE feeling that I am being sucked into a canon and can not get out of the hole. Sometimes I feel that it is better for me to remain in the dark hole and other days I wish that I could just get over all my issues. As for the Doctor.. they are pretty much unwilling to help! Yeah they give me medication after medication but it does not seem to work and the ones that do work they take me off and tell me that the ones that are working are only to be used for short terms... Frustrated and ready to just give up on everything. And to top it all off I can not for the life of me get my kids to want to spend any time with me. Lost for all hope I am guessing and meant to be alone, depressed, suffering from panic and anxiety attacks.

I hope that everyone has a great day and awesome night!!!

emoticon to the team, MICHELER45 aka Michele. Being a mother of 9 must leave very little time for you! However, that being said, you are so important to the life of that house. What a great role model you are especially as they begin to witness your transformation into a healthier mom and wife. Try to carve out a half hour each day to focus on making menus, tracking your food and/or exercises. Each healthy choice you make will change the course of your life. You CAN and WILL succeed taking one small step at a time.

emoticon to the team, LUTHBEEZ aka Louise. I'm so sorry to hear about your unemployment and your health struggles. My heart goes out to you. You are off to a great start by not only setting some small goals, but also by putting them down in writing. Sometimes when we write things out, we are better able to make them reality and that is the beauty of the SP "Other Goals" trackers. Here you can set small goals and then track them throughout the week. Over time, one is able to see which goals might need to be broken down into more manageable parts and which need to be made more challenging. Know you are NOt alone on this journey to a healthier you. We are right there with you.

emoticon to the team, BESTILLRIE. I'm so sorry to hear that you have received a jolt when you saw your picture from a wedding you attended recently. We have all definitely felt your pain at some time. The good news is that you are on SP and there is a lot of information, motivation and support to be had. You can lose that dreaded weight. You might want to begin by setting some small goals (a 10 minute daily walk or 8-8 oz glasses of water daily) and after you are able to meet them, then add another more challenging one (30 minutes of strength training twice a week). Small, healthy changes in our lifestyles can and do make a big difference to our health.

Hi my name is Louise and I'm a new SP member. I'm from Merseyside in the UK. At the moment I am unemployed. I was working for a recruitment agency but had to quit as my anxiety and depression issues got too much. I tend not to have much energy and often feel hopeless and useless, almost like I am being swallowed in to a black hole. I have suffered for a long time and have felt suicidal in the past. I take antidepressants; Sertaline 50mg.

Today I've set myself the following tasks: clean the house, go for a walk for an hour, apply for some jobs. If I do two of these I'll be happy with myself. I've concluded that taking little steps is the best way of recovering.

Last night I watched a programme which I think some of you might like to see. The programme covers mental illness and peoples ability to work. I felt a little more confident after watching this.

Hi! I attended my nieces wedding this past weekend. You know the drill: You see the picture of yourself and you can't believe that is how you actually look!! emoticon

Well, I have a choice: I can either curl up and keep gaining weight or I can get support from others who are dealing with the same struggle.

I struggle with depression and as a result, a major lack of energy. I need help to keep my head in the game.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post....any encouragement is welcome!!!

I find that walking actually gives me more energy, and I powerwalk in order to work off the stress, too. Hi everyone, my name is Joanna, and I have been on SP since 2005. I just joined this group the other day, though.

Last summer I had a mental break down. Apparently I had been depressed for a long time and didn't know it. I'm the positive type; I keep going, looking at life as the glass half full - always. But one day my body couldn't take it any more. Now I'm on this weird roller coaster of medication, good days, bad days, shaky, buzzy days. And my life is totally, totally different. I don't know if this is an appropriate place to share, but I'm sure some of you might understand where I'm coming from. In the last year I have lost my home, my husband, my kids, my family, some of my friends, my colleagues, and my dogs, but I have gained myself. And I am content for once.

But again, the body is so affected by experiences and emotions. I just want to feel "normal" whatever that is. I want to stop taking the meds that I never wanted to start in the first place, but I really didn't have a choice. I was diagnosed with major depression (which really wasn't the worst) and generalized anxiety disorder with panic. I was suffering from panic attacks all day everyday for six weeks before I finally gave in to my doc about meds. I wanted to die. Now since things are settled in for me, I don't get the panic attacks very often, still some anxiety from certain situations, and the depression well... not too sure about whether it's still there or not. I've been thinking that if it is, the meds are masking it. I'm not really sure. I'm grateful for so many things that I really can't be unhappy.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I've probably gone on way too long. But I do welcome people to comment on my spark page, especially people who are dealing with loss, not necessarily with death, but loss of relationships, which is what I have experienced. It's amazing how people treat someone when that someone doesn't fit in the box that they originally put them in. I can honestly say, while this has been the most painful year ever, it's been the most beneficial, and rewarding for me and my growth as a person.

Thanks for "listening"!

Joanna

Thank u! U know, ur absolutely right doing 10 min a day, just like we learn here at sp. I am so guilty of being an all or nothing person sometimes, I tell myself "well unless I run on the treadmill til i'm dying it's not worth it" and then i'm too exhausted and end up only working out once a week. It seems obvious (the 10 min a day) I guess sometimes it helps to hear someone say it, and to admit in writing that i'm being ridiculous lol. I think sometimes because my fiancee is athletic and has never had a weight problem,I feel I have to push myself and I feel embarrassed if I only work out 10 min. I know he just wants me to be happy and healthy and wouldn't judge me, but u know how our brains come up with these crazy things. I think I just had an epiphany.

emoticon to the team, SHRINKINGLEAH aka Leah. First, I want to tell you how inspirational your SparkPage is. You will indeed succeed if you can hang on to this positive outlook during even the most difficult days. As for the exhaustion due to depression. Have you discussed this with your doctor? If not, it might be worth a phone call. As for how I deal with it, I try to get at least a 10 minute walk in every day. This is one of the goals I track so that I can tell immediately when I am slipping. Also this movement, even 10 minutes, gives me a feeling of success and then I am energized many times to complete the 30 minutes I am striving for. The most important thing is to find what works for you. You can and will find that healthier you. You are NOT alone.

Hi everyone! My name is Leah, I have been on sp for a few months and just joined this team 2day. Thought it would be good 2 get support from others who know what it's like. I am a very positive person who works full time, takes care of a family member, and is happily engaged. But, I still have depression and my issue is exhaustion.I've lost 13 pounds but it's taken me since November. I am struggling with consistency due to being so exhausted from depression. how do others deal with this and exercise consistently? Thanks for your support!

emoticon to both SP and the team, CHIBIUSAGISAMA aka Chee. (And a thank you goes out to your friend for suggesting you try SP) Learning to track both our exercise and our food is a bit time consuming, it will indeed help you achieve your goals in the long run. Try not to allow yourself to get overwhelmed here on SP. There is a lot to be learned and it takes time. Start with a couple small goals and then when you have mastered them, add another more challenging one. Over time, you will find that healthier you.

Hi everybody! :) I'm Chee and I'm new to Sparkpeople. My friend recommended this site to me a month ago and I haven't started till today. So far it has been exciting to be on this website when I got to learn how to keep track of what I eat, learn different exercise I can do, and meeting new people! I'm hoping that I can lose the weight and keep it off. I've tried many times before and failed and now I'm at my second highest weight in my life. I've already trimmed off 8 lbs before joining this website, but I need more to go and that's why I've joined this website. Thanks for reading.

Hi everyone! My name is Nici, I am married and have 2 wonderful kiddos. I am new to spark people as of today. This is my second try at losing weight. The first time I lost 40lbs and went from a size 26 to a size 18. Recently went through some big life changes and unfortunately gained back 14lbs of what I had lost. I am glad that I found this team to help me through my journey!

emoticon to the team, LOSE-IT-56. Isn't it interesting that nearly all of us have been raised to eat to fulfill whatever emotion we are feeling. Like you, I learned a lot when I started tracking and measuring my food. What an eye-opener! I'm so sorry you have had a tough 3 days. You have a lot going on with 2 little ones under 6, being a military wife and battling depression. The good news is that you are not alone on this journey. We are here for you whether you need to vent or simply peruse the boards. We are all on this journey together.

emoticon to those of you new to SP.

I am actually new to this team - have been on SP for 6 weeks now. I also have a hard time with eating my depression away. I'm a military wife and have two beautiful boys that drive me crazy. When I'm anxious I eat, when I'm sad I eat, when I'm mad I eat, when i"m frustrated I eat. I completely understand you teammates. It's been hard for me too, but the one thing that I have seen that has helped me so very much is tracking my food. Eating a variety of healthy foods. Once I see those calories on screen, I do freak out ... but it reminds me of my goal. I had a bad 3 days this past week. But, since I tracked everything I ate, it helps me put things into perspective and it teaches me what foods to stay away from.

It's hard, but we can do this emoticon

Getting going is the hardest part, but I am worth it.

Hi, I've been on spark for a while but only active in the community more recently. I struggle with mental health issues and disordered eating. I'm trying to stay in control but I find it hard.

emoticon to the team, BRITT-WELCH58. Congratulations on the birth of your son. What a blessing. As for lack of motivation and stress eating, you are not alone. Most everyone on SP and this team deals with this at some point in their lives and many times, often. The great news is that now you can come to SP and post on any of your team threads to find the motivation and support you need. You are NOT alone on this journey to a healthier you!

Hi, I'm new to SparkPeople and this group really jumped out at me. I've been dealing with depression since age 12 and recently dealt with Post-Partum Depressed after the birth of my beautiful baby boy. I feel like depression is the main reason for my unhealthy lifestyle, from stress eating to lack of motivation. It is difficult for me to make a positive change in my life. I'm hoping the support of people in this group will help me accomplish my goals and gain a better outlook on life. emoticon
