emoticon Hi Everyone i joined about a week ago but have not shown my face in here yet, I suffer from Fibromylagia and in the course i have developed depression with it, another thing i need to learn to deal with, I too suffer from IBD but that isn't really related to the depression issue, i have noticed a difference in my mood lately and they way i feel and think, i have always had an issue with seeing the good in me and positive aspects, but of lately it has got worse and my feelings are really depressing at times, but i will seek my old self again and be happy again.

emoticon to both SP and the team, FYRAM45. You are absolutely right! NOW is the time for you. Some times have a "Welcome Center" or the like on their website that lists churches, local groups and organizations. Have you checked to see if anything like that is available to help you with the "human contact" side of life? Anyway, know that your SP teams are here to help you during this difficult time. We are all about support, motivation and a place to share. You are NOT alone.

Hello MIZ, emoticon Welcome to DWD.

What an adventure life is. Finding yourself in a new place. This can be frightening and depressing. Perhaps I can suggest looking on it as a Perfect time for a fresh start with a clean slate. What do you like to do? What would you like to try? What about trying volunteer somewhere once a week? Just a small step to get you out and meet people. Maybe the local newspaper has a list of organizations/meetings/ churches where you can find resources.
MIZ, you have already shown the courage you have. emoticon Think about it!
Have a good day emoticon Keep on dancing emoticon

Hi All I am new to SP, I go by MIZ I have been fighting depression all my life. Currently my life situation took a turn for the worst, long story short, I find myself completely alone without family or friends in a town I do not know where anything is or where to go for resources. As I was reading I found this web site and decided to give it a try.

I do find myself pushing myself to walk outdoors, open all my windows and even try to watch a comedy program. It seems to help but the human contact and communication and encouragement is what I hope to find. I keep thinking maybe, I am where I am to learn who I am, as I look back, I was always taking care of somebody, and I look at me and ask what happen to MIZ, overweight and alone. I need to learn to take care of me. I am trying to dance like there is no tomorrow :)

Welcome Beth, Camille, SunsetFireIce and Kaye! I am now somewhat-new (3 weeks). Depression is my ‘dark passenger’ friend who visits me off and on. My friend has been with me this past year and with the help of the aids from this site I have been able to keep her at bay. Hope all the best for all of you. emoticon

emoticon to the team, ROBERTAKAYE aka Kaye. Just as you told another user, now is YOUR time to make a new and healthier life for yourself. And what a great example you will be to your entire family. While we know what it is we need to do, it is too often so difficult to get started. You are not alone in those feelings! If you haven't already, you might want to set a couple of small goals to aim towards (i.e. 64 oz of water or 10 minutes of daily exercise) Whatever you choose, just stick with this journey.

Hi, Sunsetfireice. What a pretty name. From your photos, it looks like you may be a young mother. Brings back memories. With the help of a few dear friends and the grace of God, I made it through those years while suffering major depression and anxiety D/O a lot of the time. It's easy to get overextended when it's more giving than taking. I hope you can gain encouragement and positive messages from our group. I'm one to talk. I've been hiding out for over a week - avoiding SP, exercise, reading, and everything else that's good for me. Go figure. This is a nasty D/O - the way it makes us devalue ourselves so much. I'm 62, with 4 grandchildren, and have just started to get really serious about my mental health. Damn, before now, I was so busy with children, work, and school that I could hardly see straight. I didn't know I had so much to change internally. Let's all work together! Take care, Kaye

Hi I am new here to SP. I have battled depression and was diagnosed with bi-polar NOS several years ago. My husband is also bi-polar and every day is a challenge. We cycle in opposites which makes our relationship very up and down. I am what my friends call the cosmic therapist because i am always there with support and advice but on the flip side i don't get much back. I deal with a constant negativity in my husband who requires constant support and encouragement but i often feel that i am scraping the bottom of my barrel and getting nothing back.

I am so glad that there is a forum for those who battle depression so that we can support each other.

I started working out about two weeks ago and found that some of my depression is a lot better thank you endorphins, And I know that losing this extra weight will be a help as well but everyone can use a little encouragement and though it is hard for me to do so that is what i am asking for.

Laugh every day. Tell someone you love them, and Live life to the fullest!

Hello everyone. My name is Camille. I joined SP a few days ago. I have been off and on depression medications throughout my short (22 years old) life. I have a chemical imbalance, at least that's what others tell me. When I'm off of my medication for a long period of time, I start having the usual breakdowns every 5 to 10 minutes. I am an emotional eater. I've come to notice that when I'm bored I head to the kitchen and look through the fridge and the pantry for things that sound good at that time (9 out of 10 times I don't fix or have anything).
I am very glad there is a Team here on SP for depression, I believe it will help others greatly.

emoticon to the team, YOGAMOMOF4 aka Michele. You are one very busy person racing after those 4 youngsters. This is the time in life where it is very easy to neglect taking care of yourself. Being so busy, many times something has to give. While it is hard, try to find at least 10 minutes to take care of you. Whether it be quiet time, 10 minutes of cardio while playing tag with the children or something else, remember how important it is for you to take care of you!

Hi, new friends! My name is Michele. I'm a 42-year-old mom of four kids, ages 3, 5, 7, and 10 (plus one in heaven). I'm hoping to loose a little weight, but even more importantly, I'm hoping to regain some of the energy and stamina I had when I was younger and more physically fit (read: five pregnancies ago - LOL!) I also want to model a healthy lifestyle for my family.

I've been coping with depression for about 20 years, sometimes with medication and sometimes without. Currently, my depression is well-managed on Wellbutrin. I do find that when I make time for exercise it really helps with my depression management, so I hope to continue to make time for that.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better and encourage each other. It helps not to have to do it alone!

ps -- I hope some of you will "friend" me; I'm new here and don't have any friends!

Namaste,
Michele

Hi, I have been with SP for two weeks and believe this is the right group to help deal with my anxiety, insecurity, self loathing and how they affect my health. My sister is bipolar, another sister is an alcoholic and my brother is a recovering alcoholic. I have had boughts of depression over the years, was very heavy as a teenager and young adult. I'm 61and my generation didn't have a lot of help dealing with problems my family and I have and am glad to see there are now groups like these to join.

I had found solace in painting, pushed myself thru college (in my forties) and have had some success keeping my demons at bay, but now I am again feeling deep unsatisfaction with the life I created around me. My kids are now out on their own, I am at a good dpot in my career , my husband and I now have time to ourselves, and I want to enjoy thid part of my life more than I am right now. This new health regime is helping and I just need some emotional support

Hi my name is Rosie and I am very new to SP and to this group. I am delighted that SP has a specific group for those afflicted with depression. I am 40 years old and have depression since 1990, quite severe, often treatment resistant. They have talked about Bipolar which I partly agree with in my teens and twenties, it more depression now unfortunately.

I gained a lot of weight when my thyroid gland was affected by the use of the medication Lithium and is now underactive, I gained 5 stone in the process. I really want to lose this weight but as I can no longer work and have very little motivation exercise is just not happening for me right now.

I would really appreciate some help and advice and some support on this journey and I in turn will do my best to help others out there.

Thanks for reading

Rosie x

Hey Ashley! I connected with your story in a lot of ways.

I have gained a lot of weight over the last year, too. My husband has an alcohol problem and is recovering from a narcotic addiction. I felt like I was going insane because of what he and I were both going through. I joined Al-anon last spring and that has helped me so much! But because of the stress, I now am at the heaviest weight that I have ever been at in my life. I also am dealing with high cholesterol on top of that.

I am wanting to get back into nursing school, but am having a hard time finding time and financial resources with which to do that. I work full time during the day for a pain management clinic that specializes in interventional pain management, no drugs:) So I understand working and going to school and not having enough hours in the day. I have decided that I am going to try to make small changes and so far this week, I haven't been doing too badly.

I am sorry to hear about your mood disorder. I have not had any recent bouts of bad depression, but I used to. It used to be so bad that when I was in school, I missed a lot of class because I couldn't get out of bed to go:( I am often irritable and can get really angry at times. My comfort seems to be the same as yours, though--food...and lots of it.

I don't have any advice, just sympathy and understanding for some of what you're going through. If you need support or encouragement, I'm here:)

emoticon to the team, ASHLEYALANARX aka Ashley. I'm so sorry you are struggling with so many differing diagnosis'. Getting all those straightened out with the help of your doctor takes time and that can be very frustrating. The good news is that this team is here to support and motivate you. You might want to set some small, healthy goals and work them until they become easier and then add some new goals. And don't forget to reward yourself for meeting those goals in some way. In the meantime, we are here for you.

I am 49, and have dealt with depression since aged 12, due to many issues... my main goal is to have a more positive approach and less "reaction" thanks

Hi! I'm Ashley! I've been using Spark for a few years now to track my food and exercise. However, the last year or so it's been hard for me to lose weight, in fact I kept gaining it. I'm in my second year of professional pharmacy school working on my doctorate, so there's a lot of stress. Unfortunately, I work on top of it to pay my bills and tuition. So, I stand in one place counting pills and talking to patients for 6 hours a day 4 days a week, on top of having to study and go to class. Not nearly as bad as some people have it by any means, and I am very thankful for my life and opportunities, so please don't think I'm complaining at all. I just don't have time to work out a lot.

I have recently been diagnosed with a mood disorder, possibly bipolar, my doctor is still evaluating before the official specific diagnosis can be made. I've had really bad bouts of depression and irritability and anger problems over the past year. Since I'm working to get my mood disorder under control, I am determined to lose the weight that I put on by binge eating when I was depressed. So any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. As well as a support system for when I'm having a mood swing and want to binge eat!

emoticon back, BEEKAHBUG aka Bekah and congrats on your marriage. You are so NOT alone. So many times life interferes with our plans and we "forget" to take care of ourselves. Thankfully your SP teams are always here when you are ready to get back on track. All you have to do is ask for what you need.

Hi everyone!

I'm Bekah. I found Spark People back in 2010, but have been away from it for about 2 years. I was on here faithfully for about 10 months, then, the stress of getting married caused me to not be as active on here. Then, I went through a difficult time my first year of marriage and was hospitalized 4 times for depression and anxiety. It has now been over a year since I have been in the hospital! But, I still have some difficult days. But, I am back on Spark to try to lose weight again.

Hi, It's not my first time at Spark, but my first time here (I think!). I have a lung disease and type 2 diabetes. The Dr. put me on prednisone which made my blood sugar and weight worse. I came off the pred. and with the help of Spark lost the first 30 but start having depression and the Dr decided I needed another round of pred. for the lungs. I'm off that now and back here to lose the weight and get my health back. It's a catch 22 with this. The other two illness worsen my depression and being depressed does not help the other two! I really hope to gain support here and offer any support I can give.

emoticon to the team, SHELLYGON321 aka Shelly. I'm so sorry to hear you are not only caught in the depression spiral, but are struggling with finances and the stress of your job too. You are certainly in a difficult place. Hopefully you and your therapist can find what is the cause of the depression and that you begin to find some relief. Thankfully this team is a great place to find support and motivation. Maybe perusing the Team's Daily Thread and/or adding your own post could offer you a little hope. Also have your tried to set one goal? Even one small, healthy goal that you can do every day might give you offer you both inspiration and a feeling of success when you accomplish it. Whatever you do, know that you are NOT alone and that we are only a post away.

emoticon to SP and the team, GDDSS369 aka Wendy. I'm so sorry to hear that you are struggling with several medical issues. Hopefully you and your doctor can find something that works for you. For many people, exercise can help fight the depression even if it is only 10 minutes a day. If you haven't already, setting a couple small goals like 10 minutes of exercise daily or 3 freggies a day under "Other Goals" might help you begin this journey to a healthier you. Not only are goals important, seeing them in writing is inspirational especially as you see your success beginning to grow as you track them. What ever you decide, we are here for you.

Hi everyone. I'm Shelly. I don't know how much to put here, so I'll just "go" and we'll see where it ends. I am 26 and have been dealing with depression since I was 12. There were times in my life where it was very dark and I am amazed that I made it out of those places. Over time (and a lot of therapy) I have learned better coping skills and have taken control of my life in many ways, which helped lessen the depression. I stopped taking medicine three years ago this month (wow) and have been doing really great. Unfortunately, I feel like my life is out of my hands and spiraling out of control. I have been pretty depressed for a while now....long enough that it has me worried and I'm here. We're tackling some heavy stuff in therapy right now and my finances are completely screwed. I am stressed pretty much every day. I can't afford to go out to eat at all because I literally don't have any money. I sleep ALL of the time if I'm not working. Today I literally slept most of it away. I feel guilty because I'm not taking care of myself, but when I get this depressed I just don't care. I don't have the energy to care. And I know it's a spiral. Depressed ... eat crap and lay around ... feel like crap... eat more... feel worse ...sleep to avoid the feeling......... there's no "work out" or "eat right" or "do something about your money." It's just sleep. Sleep, irritation, anger, irritability....... I hate everything. right now. I know it will get better, I know getting up and MOVING would help, I know sleeping better would help....but I just don't have it in me to care. How can I care about any of that when I don't know how I'm going to pay my phone bill. So I sleep. So that's me. That's where I am right now and why I'm here. I swear I'm not always a whinny depressed baby. But right now I am. Thanks. :)
