Hi KLAJEN - welcome to SP and welcome to our team. This is a great place to come to for support and friendship as we go on our healthy lifestyle journey. You will find that if you create a SparkPage and have it open so that others can drop by, you will find you receive a lot more support from our members, and also make some very good friends.

Just start this journey off with baby steps. This means changing only a couple of things initially and allowing your mind/body to get used to the changes before adding something else into the mix. It might be something as simple as reducing soda/juice and increasing water; or eating an extra piece or two of fruit/vege in your day. It might also be mobilizing a wee bit more in the day if you are normally sedentary, or increasing your exercise duration or intensity if you also exercise.

I am glad that you realized that you DO have to put yourself first. If you don't, you aren't able to last the distance helping others!

Good luck, and remember to keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. If you have any questions just ask - there is usually someone around so a response shouldn't be too far away.

Take care
Kris

HelloKajen: Welcome to SparkPeople. You are among friends. We won't ask you to do anything for us, but , for yourself. Time to start treating yourself well. Sometimes I say to myself, "I wish I had a friend like me!" lol. I know what you're talking about. That's in the past. The future is for you! Love and Hugs! Welcome

Hi, everyone. I'm here because I found myself doing great things in my life - but all for the sake of other people. I have been overweight for about 12 years now, and I finally decided that this is something I can change for the sake and benefit of me - no one else. This is my first day, but I am hoping I can commit and stay with it even though the idea of putting myself first in some way is scary. In a way, I have tried to control the life of my friends and family by doing things for their benefit. "If I do this, my son will/won't do that." But I am realizing now that there is no formula to life. There is no way to protect myself from bad things. The best I can do is to make the most of each moment. Today, this is the first step I am taking in a journey to love myself more fully, and to learn to love with fewer limits and unhealthy expectations for others.
