Hi Lisa - it's great that you came here.

Given your Diabetes and Cholesterol issues, have you been referred to a Registered Dietitian? They can also help you with your Bulimia. A referral to a Therapist who deals with disordered eating would also be very beneficial.

I can't speak from experience re sugar addiction or an eating disorder, but I can say that there will be a lot of support from members here who have dealt with or are dealing with those issues.

If you slip up,just pick yourself up and start again.

Good luck,
Kris

Welcome and ditto to everyone who has posted. I had to let go of my all or nothing attitude and sometimes only take 1/2 step at a time. However losing slowly allowed me to shift habits and mindsets.

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

Hi Lisa. The program works if you put in the work. I was obese when I joined. I had already lost about 60 pounds but I was getting discouraged. No support and people policing me anytime I put something in my mouth. They just didn't understand how hard it was, especially when they are eating all kinds of goodies in front of me and then telling me not to. Everyone in the family is overweight, but not like I was. I have a sweet tooth and I was addicted to Mt. Dew. I would buy 4 twelve packs a month, sometimes more. I knew I couldn't give it up cold turkey, you get headaches when you don't have your sugar fix as you might know. I limited myself to 2 a day for instance for 5 days, then down to one. When the soda was gone, I was done. I actually ended up giving some to my son. Now that that was conquered, I weaned off other things. One small step at a time, as I tend to get overwhelmed.

I found SP when looking for another site that I had used before. I posted to get support and I answered posts. I found that when you answer a post and write what you have done or are facing, it reinforces it in your mind. I started adding friends, and friends started adding me. I am disabled so I was and still am very active on the site.

Teacking your feed is very important, a pain in the butt, but necessary. If I tasted it I tracked it. I started noticing where my calories were coming from and paying attention to nutrients. I eat a lot of carbs, so I posted and asked for help with that. I got a lot of good ideas, some I didn't like. I am not fond of vegetables, except corn and of course, corn is high in carbohydrates. People are willing to share their experiences and to offer support. It is marvelous.

It took me 23 months but I went from 258 pounds down to 126.4 I have maintained my weight except for 12 pounds since 2012. I weight around 138 now, people thought I looked like I had cancer. I was actually asked by many if I was sick.

I am telling you this to prove that if I can do it, emoticon . If I can help you in anyway just post or spark mail me. I always love having new friends. Also check out ~INDYGIRL spark page. She lost over 250 pounds and is my hero..

Good luck to you.

I love SparkPeople

I have a food addiction, more specifically, sugar addiction. I am ready to give up. I have for years kept track of weight and sometimes (not often enough) tracked my food on this site, but keep doing that without any success of actually losing weight/improving my health. I am diabetic and in this last year been diagnosed bulimic. My weight has gone up instead of down the last few months. My cholesterol is high. I have never posted here before and thought maybe if I had a few friends I might have better luck. I need to start as if "Day 1" with everything.
