Netskey - Have you ever heard of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) ?? There is a symptom checker on I think it is pcosupport.org its called pcos quiz. There are a lot of woman who are told they have hypothyroid and it ends up being PCOS instead or combined together. Just a thought. I have PCOS and it is really hard to loose weight. If you watched the biggest loser Britney had PCOS that is why she struggled to lose big numbers. It is really frustrating at times because the scale just won't move but measuring is a big thing. I have noticed that even if I don't lose on the scale I will lose in inches. Just a thought....hope it helps. emoticon

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! For days I have looked through everything on SP and did nothing, zilch. FINALLY, I decided to just communicate my thoughts and go with the flow and I am glad I did. WOW, the response from people have been great, I do look more forward now to keeping my progress posted and if I can maybe help another SP'er out, GREAT! Thank you again..... emoticon

Hi Netskey emoticon to the team! I've been where you are. It's a difficult place to be. After a series of medical problems caused me to gain some weight I added to the problem by trying to eat my way out of my misery. I gained 70 pounds after retiring from the AF. At some point I finally decided I was going to be fat for life and bought a whole new wardrobe of 1X clothes. A few months after I bought all those clothes something snapped. My son was a Life Scout nearing completion of the requirements for him to advance to Eagle Scout and I decided I just wasn't going to be fat in all those pictures that would be taken at his Eagle Court of Honor. I got serious about loosing all the weight I was complaining about. I set a goal to loose 82 pounds ... I sort of grabbed that number out of thin air (pun intended) based on some research on what my weight and BMI should be according to my age and height. I lost 65 pounds by his Eagle Court of Honor and reached my goal weight by the end of '07. Now I have set a new goal for myself. It's another arbitrary number, and to be honest, I'm not as concerned about reaching that number as I am about firming up what is left of me. I'm now four pounds under my initial goal, and working on loosing inches, not pounds.

The one thing I didn't do while loosing those first 82 pounds is exercise. I am mobility impaired due to a motorcycle accident in '95 and thought I couldn't exercise, so I didn't. Now I have started exercising. I use the Leslie Sansone in home walking DVDs because of my mobility issues. I broke my knee in the motorcycle accident and need a total knee replacement. The knee gives out at the most inconvenient times, and I'd rather fall in a heap on my living room floor (and it has happened a few times since I started exercising) than on a walking trail a mile from home. I darn sure don't want to have to call 9-1-1 and have to tell my co-workers I've fallen and can't get up! emoticon

You'll find a lot of help and encouragement at SparkPeople, and lots ideas about eating and exercising too. You didn't put your weight on overnight and it won't come off overnight. It takes time, determination and lifestyle changes.

Good luck to you in all of your challenges. Let me know if I can help in anyway. See ya on the post boards.

May you always have

Hi Everyone!
I am a 911 Dispatcher with my local Sheriff's office. We work 12 hour shifts and I spend 6 months out of the year on graveyard. I am hypothyroid which makes for an interesting time when it comes to my weight! I tried Jenny Craig last year and lost all of 12 pounds in 5 months and of course gained it all back and then some. I have hit a brick wall at the moment and I am sick and tired of dieting and having to deal with my weight, my clothes are once again too small. I have been overweight most of my life, lost more than a couple of people and it does not even run in my family, everyone is slim! I keep reading more and more about SP and have spent a good amount of time looking through all of the really great suggestions. My challenge right now though, I am not motivated. Strange huh? While I am feeling really heavy, fat, whatever, I am just not motivated. Does anyone else feel this way right now? I know how to "lose weight", been there done that with every weight loss program out there, yet just don't have it in me to work at it, yet I am getting bigger every week......AND....I can't stop eating! I am sure that there is some "depression" happening but I am also not a very depressed person and really don't feel depressed. ANYWAY, I am thinking a pyschologist might be an even better answer! Thanks for reading and "listening". Take care everyone and I will do my best to update my progess, or lack there of....!
