I'm in a very small comm ctr. There 3 of us are overweight, the other 3 are at healthy weights. (yep, there's only 6 of total)

Hello J. emoticon to the 9-1-1 Weight Loss Losers team. Happy to have you with us. I see you've already joined the discussion about plain speak, and I hope to see you do more posting. This team is pretty quiet, but we do trade job info once in a while.

As for your question about the size of our comm center ... we have 12 dispatchers, 2 males and 10 females. Both males are in a healthy weight range and have under 2 years at the department. Of the 10 females, I'd say five are anywhere from "just" over weight to morbidly obese. Two of the three who are at a healthy weight are on my shift; myself and a dispatcher who has a part time job at LA Weight Loss. The third dispatcher who is in a normal weight range works the night shift and used to work part time at LA Weight Loss; she gave up that job to go back to school but still follows the principles she learned there. The fourth and fifth dispatchers who are in a normal weight also work nights ... one of them has over 20 years at the department and the other has just over 1. The shift with the worse weight problems is the day shift. Go figure; the only people with a relatively normal work schedule have the worse eating habits and weight problems.

May you always have

Hello there my name is J. Although I am new to this page, I am not new to the weigh loss scene. Over the past two years I have lost 50 pounds and transformed my body (I finally can see my abs - well maybe just one or two!) I seem to be stuck at these last 18 pounds and was in search of some motivation when I stumbled upon this page at work. I currently work as a 911 dispatcher and have been with several agencies for the last 4 years. It is sad to say that obeseity has become an epidemic in this job. My first dispatch job was a larger center (no pun intended) and I would estimate that %75 percent of the staff was overweight. Currently where I am working I would say I am the only dispatcher that is at a healthy weight out of 8 of us. The other dispatchers who have watched me shed the pounds have told me that I have been a motivation and inspiration for them, so I suppose that is a part of why I am here. I am seeking support and advice from other people who find motivation on this site. Goodness knows I care for everyone that I work with and want to see them healthy and happy because the job is enough stress on its own. Our schedule is a nightmare-2/12hour days then 2/12 hour nights then 4 days off (well that part is not so bad) I want to be able to meet and maintain my goal to help them see if I can do it on this schedule, so can they! Just my reading these wonderful posts from such supportive people that have the same goals as me has been great so far. And of course, I would love to know if your (anyone) center is suffering from this "growing" weight problem as well?
