Welcome to the group!

I just returned from vacation. Sure is nice being back - but it was so nice to get away. Needed it more than I realized.

Our comm ctr is pretty much "all-purpose". We are county wide, all law enforcement (except state patrol) and emergency - we also double as co's (corrections officers) as the jail is attached to our area of the courthouse.

I work the 4-12 shift, so am on here most evenings!

emoticon Jude ... emoticon to the 911 Weight Loss Losers team. It's nice to have you with us.

My name is Terrie Jo, and I work in a consolidated dispatch center in North Dakota. We dispatch all the emergency responders in our county, which means one sheriff's department, five city police departments, one full time ALS ambulance service, 12 volunteer BLS ambulance services, 15 volunteer rural fire departments and one full time city fire department with three stations. I've been dispatching for 13 years now. This is my second career ... I served in the air force for 24 years and started this job immediately after retiring from the air force.

The dispatchers used to work a rotating shift schedule, but we went to permanent shifts three years ago. As the junior shift supervisor I got "stuck" with afternoon shift. This was my favorite shift when we rotated, but I never wanted it as a permanent shift. My husband and son (a high school senior) are asleep when I get home from work at night, gone to work/school before I get up in the morning and arrive home after I leave for work in the afternoon. Sometimes I feel like I need to wear a name tag at home so they know who I am.

I love my job, but hate the hours. I can retire in just under five years, hopefully about the time my son is graduating from college. Then my husband and I are going to take off in our motor home and be mobile snowbirds ... traveling through warm weather states in the winter and returning to North Dakota in the summers.

Good luck to you in meeting all your goals. I can't access SparkPeople from work, but usually sign on here when I get home at night. Hope to get to know you better through the post boards.

May you always have

Hi from Illinois! Im Jude found your group from michiemish's page (thanks girl) I have been dispatching five years now. Used to be part time on second shift now I work full time third shift. I love my job. I also have a salon and do hair part time by appt. I have been married for 13 years now. He is an officer and got me into this dispatching gig! I never thought I would be able to do it but I really love it now!
We have two fabulous kids boy 13 and girl 8. Who are very active which leaves me little time between trying to sleep and be there for them! My husband works three jobs and mainly second shift, so I dont always see him enless we pass each other at work!!
Eating out and working second shift i gained about 45 pounds. Its much easier to get rid of it working third when I cant have officers pick me up food! lol
Except that darn pizza i had tonight lol Would love to get to know you all better! I am on most nights here.....Jude
