Hi Trish -

I live and work in Wisconsin - near Wisconsin Dells if you know where that is!

I don't have any kids, just dogs, so I can't tell you about that. Plus, we only work 8 hrs shifts on a 4 on/2 off schedule.

I dispatch for the county which consists of the Sheriff's Dept and 6 other police departments, 5 ambulance services and 11 fire depts and first responders. So, it keeps us busy a lot of the time. I just try to plan my meals and snacks the night before, especially if I end up working overtime. That way I know, when I am out of food, I am done eating for the day... I always try to pack several fruits and vegetables, along with lo fat popcorn, etc.

If we aren't busy, I will try to walk around the building on a break - which is few and far between. Otherwise I work out after work - but I get off at 2:30 pm... so that helps a lot!

Welcome to the team!

emoticon Trish ... emoticon to Spark People and to the 9-1-1 Weight Loss Losers! It's nice to have you with us. My name is Terrie and I live in North Dakota. Dispatching was my second career ... I took that up after I retired from the air force. I worked in a consolidated dispatch center in North Dakota, taking calls for and dispatching all the emergency resources in my county. We were responsible for five law enforcement agencies, one full time fire department, 14 rural (volunteer) fire departments, one full time (ALS) ambulance service and 14 volunteer ambulance (BLS) services. After nearly 14 years of dispatching I hung up my headset to get my life back. I had worked permanent afternoon shift for 3.5 years and was feeling lost and alone from the lack of contact with family and friends.

And speaking of family, I'm heading to Michigan in a couple of days. My husband comes from Central Lake (near Traverse City) and his family is gathering there to celebrate his parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Hi! I just joined SparkTeam today and figured I would put 911 dispatcher not thinking anything would come up... Well I am happy it did!
I work as a 911 Dispatcher/Call Taker in Michigan, near Detroit... We work 12 hour shifts, so it is so hard to not munch all day!!! Or get any exercise in.. We work from 7am-7pm and by time you get home, you are so tired, and have kids to do homework, dinner, spend time with!
I would love to see how others do it!
