Today, once again I have read my cards twice. I don't seem to move on to the next day. I'm way too busy at work and stressed. But, I know that someday soon I will move to day 2.

The good news is that I continue to not overeat. Only eating when I'm hungry and not being afraid to either throw food out or to save it for a different meal.

That is real progress for me.

Everyone keep moving forward. Slow and steady!

Hi Everybody - I really need this thread to keep myself accountable for following the plan. I have read most of the book and have done index cards, menu planning etc.. Now I need to make sure I follow the daily task plan.

I have read my Advantages Response Card today.
I have already done spontaneous exercise and will go to the fitness center during my lunch hour.
I have also emailed my diet coach.

More later on....

You guys can certainly jump in anytime!! Glad to have you!!

I'm on Day 38; alot of it later on prepares you for times when you need help -- so it's just reading for now. I made 2 sets of the Achievement Responce Cards; I tapes one up in my bathroom so that every morning as I'm getting ready I see it and read it. Anytime I go into that bathroom I read it, too. The other card I keep in my purse; I put a post-it note in my car reminding me to read it on my way home from work. That seems to be working pretty well. I didn't read them much on vacation, but I'll get back in the habit now that I'm home. I think they really help.

Glad to be in this journey with you!!

I would also like to jump onto this topic with a daily check-in of one task I'd like to complete each day. I'm really struggling with moving forward with Beck. I'm on day one and have my cards made. Now, I just need to read them. Is everyone else reading their cards?

Best to you!

Is it okay if I jump on this thread. I am new to Sparks but not new to Beck's. I have been reading the book and have been doing pretty well with it - still have 20 pounds to go. I just finished (3 days ago) a kitchen remodeling project and now able to go back to menu planning.

Good luck to everyone!!

Good Morning!!

I was so excited to weigh myself this morning because I did soooo well with my eating and exercising on vacation that I was sure I'd drop alot of weight; but that didn't happen. I'm not discouraged though because I feel amazing -- so much energy and my clothes are getting looser!! I know the weight will come off eventually. Maybe I'm retaining water from the salt air?! Oh well, my goal is to feel healthier and I do, so I met my goal. I lost 1 lb. and 1 1/4".

Hello!! I'm back from vacation! I did really well eating and wasn't even tempted much; my husband even did less munching because I was! Everyone enjoyed the fruit and vegies!! Yay!! You can change the way you eat and still have fun! Probably more fun because you feel better. I didn't even have the ice cream cone (which I normally love) and didn't miss it. My husband told me on the way home that I showed amazing will power!

I'm glad to be back home though! Time to step up the exercising!!

Congratulations on the weight loss!! And resisting all those temptations! It's easier to win the battle when you have the right weapons!!

I lost 2lbs this week!!

I'm so happy, I'm finally under 140 again!
Regardless of the scale, I really feel more confident and in control of my eating. In the past week I resisted so many temptations as I went out for drinks, for lunch, a party with tons of food, and hosted a dinner party. I feel so good about building my resistance muscle and haven't been feeling deprived.

Way to go on your loss and planning for vacation Sandy!

Good Morning! I've lost another pound!! I thought it was more and I initially felt a little down about that, but I know that I've eaten healthy, exercised some and I've noticed changes in my attitude like feeling really full (and not liking it) if I eat two bites too much, not thinking sweet foods look good to eat, and being generally more positive and energetic!! And those are really the things I'm working on . . . so I've had a successful week!!

I'm going on vacation from Monday thru Friday to the beach. I'm not concerned with exercise because I always get a lot at the beach: walking on the beach and boardwalk, swimming, and walking up and down the stairs at the condo (we're only on the 3rd floor so I know we won't wait for the elevator much). I've planned my eating pretty well; I'm going to have a small bite of funnel cake, share an ice cream cone with someone and we'll eat out twice but that'll be seafood so I'll get a big salad and that won't be bad. I feel good about it, as long as my old habits of munching don't come back. I'm taking my cards with me!

Have a Great Week! Catch you on Friday! Sandy emoticon

It's good to be consistent like that. I was doing pretty well doing my Pilates Aerobics dvd most days and then we bought an elliptical trainer. At first when you use that it's more like strength training than aerobics. You need to build up your stamina; it KILLS your legs. So when I started using that, I stopped doing the dvd so I didn't feel like I was getting cardio. I made a mini-challenge at "Woman on a Mission" Spark Team to do the dvd 3 times this week -- so I did it yesterday and it felt good. Since it's Pilates, she works your muscles, too! After vacation I want to start back into using the dvd more and spend more time on the elliptical. I'll get there!

The excercise has been going well. My plan is for two days at the gym with cardio and strength training and then spontaneous walking whenever I can add it in. This is the second week and its going well. Weight loss wise I'll know on Monday but I'm feeling better about how I look allready.

Even as I was thinking that I wouldn't plan my food, I was feeling like I should. I'll give it a try after vacation next week and see how it goes. I hate to do something half-way. I haven't tried the extra food on my plate yet either. Although yesterday my husband and I went to a minor league baseball game and shared a dish of soft serve ice cream. I stopped because I was full; he ate 65% of it. That strengthened my resistance muscle!

My exercise has been a little behind because of getting caught up on other things. I really have trouble keeping all the plates spinning at once!

How are you doing with your weight loss? and exercise?

WAY TO GO SANDY! 2lbs that's so encouraging!

I'm on my 3rd day of planned eating and really liking this part of the diet. When I originally lost weight with spark I always kept within calories but didn't feel like I could control cravings. So I would have a candy bar because I had the calories but I was still giving in to a craving. I feel like I'm learning how to combat cravings and my deisre to eat and be more thoughtful. So my plan is to once a week put a candy bar as a planned snack so I don't feel deprived but in planning to do so so I'm sticking to my plan and gaining control.

I'd suggest trying it as with all Beck steps it may not be right for you but you don't really know until you give it a whirl.

Yesterday I survived the extra food on my plate at dinner. It really made me uncomfortable. I'm strengthening my resistance muscle, I've equated the No Choice card as a vegetarian would view meat. Its not a struggle because its really not a choice. That framework has helped me resist a lot of food.

Sorry its been a while since I wrote.
How's everyone else doing? How's the excercise going?

Good Morning!!

I lost 2 more lbs. last week!! But the Amazing thing is that I've gone 3 Weeks without eating anything I shouldn't eat!! I haven't been able to motivate myself to do that in years!

I've arrived at the chapter about scheduling my food and although I don't like to not do things, I'm not going to go crazy on this one. I do plan my meals somewhat; if I'm going out to eat one meal I eat less in the others, if I know there's a time when I can't eat until late I eat more at the meal before so I'm not tempted to stuff my face, stuff like that. And I always mark my food down on Spark People, before I eat supper if I think I'm too high on calories. So, I'm going to keep this challenge for later on if I need it.

Way to fight, HLIW07! Work on that Resisting Muscle! Good Work!! And even when you were sleepy -- that's the hardest time!

I had my "Hunger" day yesterday. It was weird; I was busy so I wasn't that "hungry" but it was strange not to eat. I was quite hungry by the time I got home though. I ate a nectarine standing at the sink (cos they're messy) and then made supper and waited till it was done to eat more. We really do eat more than we need because our minds tell us we need it. Weird.

The time I have trouble not eating is when I don't feel well. My mom ALWAYS fed us when we were not feeling well (or sad, or mad, or happy, or anything!). I think sometimes my mind makes me not feel well so I'll eat something; I sound Sphizophremic. I've been trying to fight that sensation; it's hard when you've thought a certain way for 40 some years. But now that I've noticed it, I'll work on it. Maybe I'll make a card!

My work-out time is a start; I have a dvd I like to do but it's 45 mins. long and I keep sleeping too late. I'll get there!

Have a Great Day! Sandy emoticon

Sandy I'm very impressed with your dog walk and eliptical time. Sounds like you've got great fitness oppurtunities that you can maximize even more if you want.

That's great that you were able to share with your mom and have a good eating day. I'm trying to get mine to read it. She and I both lost a lot of weight around the same time and are struggling to keep it off.

Way to go on the hunger mom 2 mom. My new mantra is hunger is not an emergency. I never realized how much I used to panic from it till I read the book.

I struggled with a huge craving last night and won!! I couldn't sleep and was falling into dangerous late night snack zone but I used the mindset techniques and breathing to relax and the discomfort passed. I had been feeling anxious and am so used to comforting myself with food that it was a real challenge. I just kept thinking about my giving in muscle and how I always give in and that I need to start actively resisting today.

It was really great to be thinking in this way and I feel like it'll get easier each time I fight a craving.

Good Morning!
I'm now on Days 10 and 11; checking on your hunger. I feel like I don't really need this because I have done Weigh Down Workshop in the past and I know you can experience hunger and it's not a big deal; it's a good thing. However, I'm going to do it because it's been a while since I've listened to those cues to eat.

I did really well yesterday when I visited my mom. I was able to tell her about The Beck Diet Solution and explained how it was more about visiting her than what I had to eat. We had a nice visit and I ended up low in calories for the day.

So, here's to hungry? Sandy emoticon

I haven't started logging in yet; except for on here. I need to start that; thanks for the reminder.

We walk for 40 - 45 mins. at a steady pace; it's not a stroll but we're not setting records. I know it's better than not moving at all but I want to burn more calories.

I have problems when schedules change. Usually my husband gets up at 5:10 to get ready for work; Right now he's getting up at 4:10. That's a little too early for me; I don't have to be at work until 8:30. So I sleep some more and have been sleeping too much. Exercising in the evenings doesn't usually work for me; schedule's too hectic. He should be back to normal soon and I'll be getting up again. I did get up in time to use my elliptical some this morning.

This is what I'm working on right now; Balance!! It's hard to keep all those plates going at once! But I'll have to figure out which ones to drop so I can keep the important ones going!

Hope the Gym went well! I know you'll feel better! Have a Great Day!!!

That's great Sandy!! Are you writing down what you deserve credit for?

I went and got a manicure yesterday as a reward for my daily committment over the last two weeks.

I want to start my diet day 15 on a Monday. So this week I'm spreading out days 11-14 including the hunger tolerance and cravings excercise and logging my food to get back into practice.

I've planned to go to the gym today and Friday. Wish me luck.

How long do you go for a walk with the dog? Maybe you could just extend the time and increase the pace?

I'm now Day 8; I have to take some time to plan my week. So far, everything is going well. My boss brought cake in today; one of those sectioned off with different types. It looked pretty good! And I was pretty hungry because I ate at the low end of my range yesterday and worked around the house quite a bit. But I didn't have any!! I ate some cottage cheese and pineapple instead. It was pretty good! And I felt much better than if I had eaten it. It was funny because I had just finished the chapter about arranging your environment.

I'm not munching while I'm cooking since I have to sit to eat. I'm trying to eat slower and enjoy my food. I feel really good! My husband even told me I'm doing good and being very positive!

Yay Hurray for Me!!

The only thing I need work on is being sure to schedule exercise; my husband and I usually take a walk with the dog but I haven't been doing anything else. So, I guess I'll work on my schedule.

Good Work, too!! It's great to get your husband behind you and helping you succeed! Scheduling can be the worst part about exercise. Good Work!!

I haven't gotten to the coach yet, but I'll probably pick my daughter; she's 19 and home for the summer. She's easy for me to talk to and she understands how people think. I like how this book makes you think about what you're doing instead of just trying to make you stop doing it. We really become slaves to our habits. It's good to replace bad ones with good ones.

WOW Sandy!! You did great! Kudos and credit for the new behavior and you're thinking about hunger levels!

My biggest achievement in the last week is I not only imposed the sitting down rule 90% of the time but I imposed a no eating while lounging on the couch. I mindlessly eat sooo much there that if I want to be thin I must give it up.

I'm really struggling with scheduling and excercise but my hubby whose my diet coach had our first meeting and came up with some good solutions. I'm looking for work right now but my schedule is so open it makes it hard to commit to planning things. More than anything I'm struggling with getting up in the morning. It was really good for me to talk about these things and my hubby did a great job at positive reinforcement something he's not so good at doing so I think its good for both of us.

I find it helps to have motivators from my ARC on post its in key places like the fridge, the table where I eat, the mirror.

Eating Slowly and Mindfully has also been a challenge but I'm engaging it. I found that I really like eating mindlessly more than I like eating. I always thought I just loved food and that was my weakness but really I just like the comfort.

How was everyone else's week?

Yesterday morning I did Day 2 and last night I did Day 3. It's going to take some time to remember to only eat sitting down, but that's a good one because I usually like to pick (or binge) while I'm making supper so this will stop that.

I also did my ARC twice yesterday. I was having a somewhat stressful day and I felt like I wanted to eat something although I knew I wasn't hungry. I even opened my snack drawer once, but I remembered my list and closed the drawer and didn't eat till I was actually hungry!

Yay Hurray for Me!! Sandy emoticon

Hi! I've officially started the book now. I made 2 sets of my "Advantages to Losing Weight" cards so I could keep one in my bathroom and keep one in my purse. I decided to read them in the morning as I get ready to get my head set on the right track and then before I come home in the evening because that is usually a time when I stress eat. When I first walk in the door I'm hit with hungry people and lots of things that need done and I used to grab the first thing I can find and stuff my face. So, I'll read the cards before I leave work or on my way home, and I'll arrive home centered and ready to face my challenges without eating. I also plan on reading them before I go out to eat or enter an occassion where there will be temptation to eat.

Day 1 - Done!

Sandy emoticon

And to HLIW07 - have you tried telling these people who are pushing food at you that you are trying to eat more healthy? I always hate when people make you feel bad for not eating. Stick to your guns and know you are doing the Right Thing!! Good Luck!

Thanks Rizada, Those are some really good ideas. I appreciate the help.

I'm in a similar boat with the pudgy belly. I lost weight a while ago going from my largest 200 to my smallest 130 but a bit has crept back on and I want to get back into all my clothes. My skinny jeans await :)

Maybe read Day 29--"Resist Food Pushers". A couple of times I've skipped ahead to read days that were helpful for challenges. Like, I made my "NO CHOICE" card early, to help me get through a big food get-together. Maybe if you talk to a couple co-workers individually, to get some people on your side and let them know how difficult they're making it for you? See if any of them want to lose a few pounds, and you could form a support group.

I've had issues with being told I don't need to lose weight, too. And it's hard to counter when you don't have too much to lose--because I don't NEED to lose weight, and I'm proud of weight I lost awhile ago. But I WANT to be smaller! It helps me to poke my pudgy belly and saddlebags, or to imagine how great I'll look in a smaller size jeans.

Day 7- Arrange your environment.

I've allready got a no junk food rule in the house but will be moving some healthy food to the forefront of my cabinets. I forget I have tuna and beans sitting back there.

I don't work but I am often in volunteering, or taking classes and am constantly being offered treats. I bring fruit instead to resist but then get lots of comments about fruit and oh you don't need to diet. Its quite tiresome fending off the food and the people. Any suggestions for a response card or different thought to keep me going

Yay for you! I think you'll like the book when you start it--it's full of support in making good choices like that. Like, what would you do in a situation where you were feeling a little less motivated to give up the hot dog? Reading the book is giving me lots of guidance and practice for not giving into my cravings--I'm still only a couple of weeks in, and I already feel more confident and not as scared of food situations. So enjoy the book, I think you will!

Hi! I'm really looking forward to starting this book; reading what you've all wrote, it sounds great! I just wanted to share a good thing I did today. My husband and I went to a minor league baseball game and I love their hot dogs but I knew I was too hungry for just a hot dog and nothing else was going to fit into my diet, so we ate before we went to the game so I wouldn't mess up my good eating! It's a little thing but they add up!

My husband is my diet coach too--we've moved to a small town and I'm not working at the moment, so there really aren't a lot of people I see day-to-day. But he's been good, and he puts up with all my diet foods. :) The only thing is, he's not dieting himself, so he doesn't always think to ask me about my food choices--I just have to be accountable and 'fess up on my own. But the message boards have been a good supplement.

Hi I'm on DAY 6 and I need a diet coach.
I'm going to ask my hubby whose great at this 99% of the time and has really helped me lose weight but there are times when he's not available so I thought this would be great too.

I'm enjoying the book thus far but finding it hard work. I realized I love to eat mindlessly its really soothing to me. Its been hard work focusing on flavors and textures.

Are you guys doing the meal planning/monitoring bit? I was thinking that entering my foods into Spark a day ahead of time was probably good enough, but it's harder to monitor after every meal and snack, when I have to run to the computer. Also, since I plan my own food and don't use the pre-generated meal plans, there aren't any boxes to check off. I started writing things down in a notebook as well, but that just gets tedious... What are y'all doing?

Three things that help me succeed.
1. planning workout and meals a day or more ahead of time.
2. visiting urban mommy's page :)
3. Believing I can do it.

Three things that guarantee failure
1. fast food
2. emotional eating
3 being in a carb coma= no movement

Of course, why not!

I have been doing much better in sticking to my planned food and I just want to give myself credit for that. As the book says the only way to lose the weight and keep it off is to stop eating once we have eaten what was on our plan.

"Can I use this thread for daily accountability and call it my "coach"?"

I thought about doing that--but I've tried online "buddies" before to help keep me accountable, and it didn't work. I just stopped emailing or posting whenever I was bad, and it was hard for me to get the nerve up to start up the conversation again, admitting I'd slipped up. So I decided to ask my husband to be my diet coach. He's been good about asking me how each day went so far. I needed to make it harder for me to cheat on the accountability thing--it's a lot harder to sneak around eating food with somebody you live with, than to hide it from an online person.

Hello easbookgirl,
Hope today finds you feeling better. I hurt my back lifting a basket of books and have been out a few days myself.

The biggest challenge for me is giving up spontaneous eating and sticking to my plan. Finding solutions other than eating to deal with life's ups and downs is the work. I hear the cards in my head, I know the excess food is not a great solution. So here I am again, trying again today. No one can do this for me but me. As the book says I can feel sorry for myself, but I choose to keep with the plan of regular exercise and modest eating.
So I've written down my food for today and plan to exercise in a few hours.

I'm still here - I just caught a nasty head cold so I took it easy the past couple of days. I'm finally starting to feel like myself again, even though I'm still pretty congested and gross.

I'm stuck on the hunger exercise. I haven't scheduled a day for it yet and I was going to do it Tuesday but I forgot and packed my lunch. I think I'll do it next Tuesday, since I have a meeting in the morning and then I'll be busy the rest of the day.

I'm still reading my ARC daily, sitting down and focusing when I eat (I never realized how absent I was when I ate until I did this for the first time - now I actually notice when I start to feel full).

How are you guys doing?

Betsy

Hi everyone! I'm new. I'm on day 7 and I'm hung up on the diet coach thing. I don't want to skip a step, but I don't know anyone I could ask to do it face to face. Can I use this thread for daily accountability and call it my "coach"?

Lessons from yesterday, whenever I feel any anxiety I want to eat off plan. I am adding a new card to my stack which says "I can get through this without eating."
I have got my food plan done and you know I notice my most challenging time of day is 3pm to 7pm.

Hello all
I want to use this topic to work on being consistent with reading my ARC cards, sticking with my pre-written food plan for each day. So I have written my plan for today and read my cards once already. For me I think it will be good to read them at each meal.

Hi everybody,

I've been having a few good days. I think having "keep a streak alive" on my other goals tracker is helping.

I keep forgetting to read my Advantage Response Card and my other Response Cards though. I have them in my purse, so it's not like it's hard for me to find them. I just keep forgetting to make it a habit. Maybe I'll put post-its up in strategic locations so that I remember.

I just got to Day 12, and I'm probably going to do the Hunger Tolerance exercise on Tuesday when I go to work. It'll be my first day back from vacation and I know I'll be too busy to think about my empty stomach.

So, that's my update. How is everyone else doing with their Daily To-Do's?

Good morning everyone:

I am starting this thread so that we have a place to go to check in every day as a new part of our daily To-Do list.

Feel free to mention what To-Dos you have accomplished, ask for advice with any of the steps you are having difficulty completing, use our group as your official Diet Coach, etc.

Or you could even use this as your live "Response Card" for when you are having those sabotaging thoughts and need a little reality check!

Good luck and happy Sparking,
Betsy emoticon
