I feel healthier just READING your posts, Em. emoticon I usually pick up simple ideas for good meals. You've been at this a lot longer than I have and sometimes, I think I make things too complicated. (still learning)

And it looks like you did well on your run! Your friend is in for a challenge. emoticon

Got out for a run- a little slow going at first but did it. Sun out today. Gorgeous. emoticon

I'm proud of all of us making good choices on this plan.

You are not only on the path to good health but every day you eat this way you help our beautiful planet...not sure if it will balance out the bad choices people are making on carnivore or keto but I can hope-(I admit I sometimes get sad seeing these bad choices)
and yes Eat to live is not vegan -small portions of animal products are allowed- much like the longest living cultures here on our planet and how it is meant to be

I did not make the sausages because e sauteeing up some portabellos and adding spices was quicker and easier and voer spaghetti squash is yum

Lunch is leftover taco soup, corn on the cob (chil and lime), pinto beans with chopped fresh onions and chow chow (actuallly ran out of chow chow so I chopped up hm sweet pickles) and samosas with tamarind sauce.

I have been having a small green smoothie an d steel cut oats with cinnamon and flaxseed and bit of plant milk (home made) for breakfast! Very good

This weekend I plan on making Miyoko's Italian sausages to go on spagjetti squash- as you know store bought have oil and too much sodium. So I will make without oil and as for salt - I will use miso. Let y aknow how it comes out. DH can add salt to his dish if n=he wants to

Off to do to do list. It is very windy out there today! emoticon

I have had some time to cook- love that

Having the most delicious food!!!!- All Eat to live compliant.

Sauteed some nagaimo we bought from a market around here & a dash of low sodium tamari with some greens emoticon
S
Made some stuffed peppers -stuffed with black bean and corn and chile spices and topped with some cashew sauce.

Just really good E2L food. Bought some dino kale.
Organic bananas ..apples..sweet potatoes!

so true- very hard to do outside of our homes/ what we bring to work/

REJ- I like to watch some of those videos too a a boost

so-
my friend I am racing tells me he went out and ran 3.1 miles. First time he has ever done that. I'm super proud of him. It took him 42 minutes to run 3.1 miles

The race we are doing is 4 miles over a bridge- and I have not been running. Walking yes and a bit of swimming and biking . So I went out to run 4 miles just to see if I could do it without stopping and I did! It took me 44 minutes to run 4 miles. emoticon

So it is a good day!

It's definitely more challenging for me also, to eat nutritarian when I'm not at home, where I can control my environment. I hope that you will do well in spite of the extra challenges, MrsLivingWell.

I've had a couple of meals away from home this week, and it's been a challenge to get back on track. I may need to read a bit from one of Dr. Fuhrman's books or listen to another one of his YouTube videos for motivation. I'm not eating bad stuff, but I'm eating too much good stuff.

In spite of that, I will be donating some of my bigger sized clothes this week, because I'm now several sizes smaller (10 sizes to be exact). I've been keeping them "just in case", but I know that this is the way I want to eat and live for the rest of my life so out they go.

Mrs.Livingwell- yes I love the challenges- good ones! White-2
Batch cooking is great!

REJ- yes and the 4 kids have things to pick up too. My youngest pretty much has. He did a good job. We will be taking his bed. Has a good mattress. Inspection is Thursday and unless they find something terrible that we can't deal with or live with it is a go.

Funny how in some ways it is not the best but I love it. Feels like home.
There was another one in better shape and also had a pool but had a whole kitchen and set up in basement too- ore value but I don't know what I would do with 2 kitchens and pools are work and money.- Maybe a hot tub some day...

I'm so glad that you and DH are pleased with the renovations, White! Woo! Hoo!

It sounds like you're heading for a new chapter in your life, Em. It's great that your offer was accepted. I moved last year, so I know that it's both a very exciting and also demanding time. And my challenge wasn't nearly as big as yours because I was moving from one apartment to another while moving to a new house is quite something else! I hope that you'll love your new home as much as I love mine!

Thankfully the renovations are OVER and we LOVE the outcome! it's so nice to have a toilet upstairs and to no longer have to climb into the bath to shower but to have a nice walk-in shower instead!

So yesterday I So-Today-
I did veer off from my planned gung ho plan and stopped and smelled the roses- literally- and watched bugs and listened to birds on a walk. Got on a swing - which hey is good for the core! lol and then climbed up into the lifeguard chair and looked over the bay
Added up to about 5 miles and the swinging was fun as well as sitting in the life guard chair.

Today I did some of the training for race but then later on biked to bay and went in- was awesome!

My walking buddy (my sister) also homeschooled her 4 children. It's a big investment of time and energy, but the results were worth the investment. They're still an exceptionally close-knit family today. She now has 4 grand-children.

It sounds wonderful that you'll have a reserve right in front of your house, Em. Being a nature illustrator sounds wonderful and I wish you well with your projects!

In answer to how people eat fresh kale in salad: Even thicker kale is made more appetizing by "massaging" it with clean hands to make it softer. Then chop.

You could even parboil the thicker kale, then cool and chop for salad. There are no rules for nutritarian salads!

Christine -yes cheese is addictive. Dr. Barnard's book is a good one-REJ. And sometimes we do just do the best we can. I like how it takes a few meals and we can get reset and the benefits

REJ- we have a great mushroom farmer at ours too- told me to dry saute lions mane by squishing it down- delicious!
-thank for the reminder!
I will try to get to ours this weekend.

I FINALLY did what was on my training schedule for the race...it is only 4 miles tho so I should be ok. Still I'm not up to my usual energy with the running. BUT I will get there!

Tomorrow I have speed intervals and will get to the pool too.

At the farmers' market, yesterday, I purchased some Red Russian Kale. It's a delicate type of kale that can be used in a salad. I could never figure out how people ate kale in salads. It's so tough and hearty. I eat a lot of kale, but I gently cook it. This delicate kale was definitely heartier than, for example, romaine lettuce, but it had a delightful peppery kale taste. Now I know which kale to buy for salads! emoticon

Dr. Barnard wrote a whole book about cheese and how addictive it is. Salt and cheese were the two most difficult things for me to stop eating when I became a nutritarian. I can't say I NEVER consume them, but it's very rare. I hope that the renovations in your home are going well and that the work will soon be over. Until then, just do the best you can under the circumstances. emoticon

I went to a local farmer's market with my niece today. I knew that one existed, but I didn't know where it was held. Now I do. emoticon It was fun to choose fresh greens and stuff. It was a nutritarian dream come true! (Always some kiosques to avoid, but most offered healthy produce.) But my greatest find was mushrooms! All kinds. The vendor was explaining so many things to me. I purchased some lion's mane and other mushrooms I've heard about and wanted to try. My niece explained that he is one of the best-known mushroom experts in Quebec. I'm planning to go back there often! I wish I had been more proactive about discovering where it was at the BEGINNING of summer! emoticon

Last monday the renovation of our bathroom started and it's been a tough week for me. I could not stay home because of the terrible noise and spent a lot of time sitting in a café just to be away from home. Could not make my usual lunches with soup and salad. Had bread with cheese for lunch as there were not too many options, and promptly noticed that I got addicted to the cheese. It was interesting to see how the cheese caused me the same problems sugar has often caused me: cravings, getting overly emotional and grumpy, feeling down and lethargic.
I thought that having 1 to 2 servings of cheese per day for just a week or so would be all right. Not.

Up until today I was 'sugar free' for 27 days. Today I gave in and had 1 cookie. I intend to just continue being 'sugar free' and to also cut out all cheese. I was avoiding dairy most of the time in the past year (or maybe even longer). I'm a bit amazed to see how addictive it really is to me.

I've been away from spark again for a long while...can't seem to get back into the habit of posting, long term. Nice to see people I knew way back when, still here.

I'm sticking pretty closely to Eat to Live principles. I eat tuna occasionally. I also will add olive oil to stir fried tofu/veggies. I sometimes have salt in my food as well. Other than that, I'm compliant!

I also am gluten free now, as I've found my body doesn't respond well to it.

I haven't been able to lose weight eating this way, though, until I added intermittent fasting to my regime. I eat from 8:30am to 4:30pm. I usually stop eating by 2, though. So, my weight is finally going down. I've been doing this for a year, but I had a few months where I was struggling with food choices and with was making too many exceptions with my eating window. I've found that I'm one of those people that can't have any exceptions to my eating rules because an exception can derail me for months. Before, I was just losing and gaining the same pounds, over and over, going between 180 lbs and 200 lbs.. I'm at 169 lbs now, which I haven't been at in 10 years. I haven't been exercising at all and am trying to add that in now because I have so little energy and am hoping exercise will be the missing link to revitalize energy for me. I'm still homeschooling 2 of my 5 kids and really need energy as the new school year looms near.

Well, that's my update for now!

It IS emotionally draining. It is good to get it done too.
I look at ti as a gift to my kids when I can pare down.

I'm able to batch cook this afternoon/ Saturday afternoon. Open houses are also time consuming!

One thing to be glad of is the clean up after Eat to live meals- no grease from oils or from cooking animals.

- I have been reading about uric acid too as Of all the animals that include meat in their diet, man is the only one that is unable to break down uric acid to allantoin. This is due to the fact that man does not possess the necessary enzyme, uricase. This inability to break down uric acid leads to an increased possibility of it accumulating in the body when animal products are eaten. Uric acid is an intermediary product of metabolism that is associated with various pathological conditions, including gout.

I'm happy the food I eat does not have to be handled with care nor does it create grease that has to be cleaned up in kitchen as well as in my body.

Anyhow! Soaked some aduki beans will cook those in instant pot.
I am glad I bought that- only reason I did was stove died and I looked at tha tas an opportunity.

ETL can be a challenge because we have to do it in real-time and amidst the stress and challenges each new day brings. I agree that sorting our belongings before a move is very stressful. And for me too, books were among the hardest things to get rid of. I had 3 bookcases and whittled it down to 1. I found the task to be emotionally draining.

And we don't necessarily have the energy to prepare a nutritarian meal when we feel drained. (That's where prior food prep is key!) I'm glad that ETL is not about being perfect. Like you, one good nutritarian meal helps me to get centered again. It's a reminder that that's how I want to live my life. emoticon

yes- I agree about environment.

Fat and salt are triggers for me. I can have one sweet and move along- so for me I need to avoid things like pizza- talking about the take out kind or for that matter cheese.

Some stress going on as I house hunt with my husband. He had to move his office last year and is just getting over that. So I am being patient. Really tossing and purging . Bags of things- clothes I was haning on to. Toss..toss donate..etc.

Books- etc- keeping a few. That is harder. Meanwhile I let things slip a bit but not to far. What I love about eating this way is one really healthy measl- say black beans and quinoa and sauteed greens and salad gets me back on track.
- it is really a matter of consistent prep for me.

Not so much a linear process. Just trying to spiral up instead of down.

Temptation on a scale of 1 to 10 - It depends.

If I walk into a grocery store and there are pastries in the entrance (for example), the temptation is about a 2 or 3. But if I buy one, it can jump to a 4 or 5 the next time around (reinforcement).

As far as chips (or other salty snacks) are concerned, they are a temptation pretty much only when I attend a get-together where they're being served, because I haven't bought any in so long.

Also, it's always more difficult to eat nutritarian if I'm invited to someone else's home or a restaurant. I mostly try to eat at home because I can control things so much better. When I'm tired or anxious or bored, I'm more tempted to eat. I heard that we shouldn't eat when we're worried or upset because our body doesn't register when we've eaten enough and we don't digest well. And I do have trouble gaging how much I've eaten if I'm worried. Before I know it, I've overeaten, even if it's nutritarian food.

When I eat at home, because my refrigerator and pantry are well stocked with nutritious choices, the temptation to eat non-compliant foods is very manageable, about 4 or 5. It can go higher if I'm upset, but if I do overeat, it's on healthy food. My biggest "secret to success" has been managing my environment.

Thanks for your answers Em! Yes let's say 10 means 'undoable' (9 means extremely diffiecult) and 1 means 'no problem at all'.

Yes I seem to notice that some people don't crave sugar after they've eaten it. Sadly I am not one of them. If I have one serving of ice cream or cake or such, I long for more and for five days after that my body 'asks' for sugar at the same time I ate that one serving.

I think to resist temptation for me is an 8 of 9... Though the number may vary depending on if I've been eating healthy foods or not in the past days, and on emotional circumstances. The last three times I gave in (after not having eaten any refined sugar for 2 or more weeks) had to do with circumstances such as visiting my father in the home / hospital and wanting to have an ice cream with him just to cheer him up.... having to arrange the funeral, later on and having my sister place chocolates right in front of me....... and staying with relatives I hardly knew during our vacation, being served cookes and cake that were especially baked for me, without gluten,while my cousin's wife was already struggling to make us meals without meat and gluten.... I did not have the heart to tell her I try to avoid sugar, as well....
Theoretically I could have said 'no' to those treats.... and they had big consequences as they led to that thought 'might as well continue' later on. But I hope that these circumstances will not return for a while now so I can get into a good routine with my eating.

Now that I am thinking about it I realize that it's that thought of 'I might as well continue to eat sugary stuff' that I need to adress. I know Judith Beck offers thoughts to countere these 'sabotaging thoughts'... I will look up what she wrote about that.

White- I am able to - unless tired say from my husband snoring. First night not too bad but if I get a couple then it is hard not to. Mostly that really. And I crave salt mostly so I find if I have some dulse- sea vegetables on a regular basis I am ok.

So- I had an ice cream cone with a friend. She an dI walked my town and then I had one. I am kinda lucky I guess because I am not craving any more.
Some people can't have anything like that as it starts many cravings

- also as part of the challenge I decided to go for 5 days of veg and fruits and seeds- mostly in the form of milk/dressings

-I can share that ..if I get the time..it has been waaaaay too busy for my liking!
oh right.. yes on scale of 1-10
10 being hardest??- not sure of scale?
I'd say a 2 I guess...
