Your ETL getaway sounds wonderful, Em! It can provide you with a good reset and refocus. I wish you well! emoticon

I'm getting back into the routine of taking my morning walks early. Just me and my iPod before the heat of the day sets in. That walk, and a healthy ETL breakfast, start my day off on the right foot. emoticon

I wish you a healthy ETL day, White! emoticon

I am glad this team is active too!
I think it can be hard to check in daily- weekly sounds good. I guess if I got inot the habit- daily could work-

I'm using my camping trip to eat the E2L way-
will also be caffeine free. Booze is not allowed at campground - I love the quietness of the place!
No RV's!
-so looking at it as an Eat to Live solo getaway!

I agree, White, that the fun part of being part of a Sparkteam is doing things TOGETHER. I like to share my experiences and questions on the team and having people with the same interests respond. I appreciate the informative links posted by informed people. It's great support! I especially value our Eat To Live team, because healthy eating and living have become so important to me. Thank you for all that you do to keep our team alive and active!

Have a great camping trip, Em!

I think from now on I will set up challenges that require a person to post once a week, not every day.
I had great fun with the challenges about the G-BOMBS and the Nutritarian Guidelines and they did help me.It may be fun to do something like that again. Maybe in winter.

As it is it takes me too much time to post on the challenges daily if I am most of the time the only person posting. For me the fun is in doing stuff together, but I have no idea how to get more people to post on the challenges frequently...

Thank you for sharing the photos of your lovely family, Em. You and DH must be so proud! And... you are looking GOOD, girl!

I agree that we are incredibly blessed with all the delicious, nutritious food we get to choose from. I always eat my food with much gratitude. I have subscribed to a local organic family farm and will be receiving my 1st delivery on Wednesday of this week. I am looking forward to it!

Today is day 8 since I gave up sugary foods, once again. It was hard the first 5 days but I think it's getting better now.
I'm eating a good nutritarian breakfast, lunch and usually a nutritarian evening meal now, with a good salad almost every day. My snacks could be better (rice cakes, and some mayonaise, and fruit). As it is I am glad that this is going well so far. After my vacation I'll focus on getting closer to the program.

Given that the 'regular members' are posting about their exercise frequently now, I thought it would be nice to turn exercise into a monthly challenge where you add up 'points' for the exercise you did. You can find the exercise challenge here:

Glad to read your words REJ, it means my presence here at the team is useful - even though I really struggle with the ETL guidelines myself. I am thankful for YOUR presence here as you do a lot better than I and that inspires me!

I hope that you will have a wonderful time with your son and family, Em! I'm convinced that you will. Thank you for the link to Rip's interview with Dr. Klaper. Both of them are worth listening to. Dr. Klaper is so different from Dr. Fuhrman! emoticon I intend to listen to the other Engine 2 podcasts.

For me personally, I have to be more "strict" than just whole-food vegetarian. I have to eat nutritarian in order to lose weight and maintain health. I'm still quite a bit overweight (though no longer obese). I have to be really careful with grains, especially flour, etc. But I learn a LOT from ALL of these wonderful plant-based advocates.

What I realized after listening to Dr. Fuhrman's latest presentation is that I am still eating too much food. I'm eating mostly healthy nutritarian foods, but I eat too much of it. I eat even if I'm not hungry if it's time for a meal, which means that I ate too much at the previous meal (according to his presentation). I wasn't losing any more weight but was maintaining well until my son's visit (gained 5 lbs.) Now I need to fine tune my diet!

Thank you for asking how you can help, White. You already do... with your encouragement, caring, support and great challenges! I always look forward to reading everyone's posts and am grateful for the responses to my own posts. I keep learning and like the way we support one another on this team. emoticon

REJ- I am going to try to listen to that today- running around with all the last minute details- ya know!
figured I would sit and pause for a second

I have reflected a bit on the past -
coming up for air a few times just enough to stay healthy ..enough.. and at an ok weight
(for my age ..yadda yadda.. after 4 kids) BMI- 25.4..which is just a bit overweight making of all things other people comfortable- me not so much

So what I mean by coming up for air is I will follow Eat to Live and go out walking & running and doing my weight lifting- which really does not take too much time- be active..swim and then I go out and get talked into oh say clamcakes.. - very often I do go back to Eat to Live but sometimes not so much and would go staying down under in the land of indulgent crapola
..and then I would even freak out and go on stupid diets like paleo or keto- sure might lose a few pounds but not healthy at all long term and is not the way to go- unless normally your life is processed foods and even then it is just a band aide
btw this podcast is excellent! Love Dr. Klaper
plantstrongpodcast.com/blog/episode-
9-
michael-klaper-paleo

Anyhow- while I am away there will be plenty pf healthy choices - although I am not going to focus/obsess on that - it is time for this huge vacation we have been planning for about 4 years
BUT- when I return- it is time..because part of this plan of that last 4 years was to be at goal weight
AND- I let that part of equation go- I WILL have fun- I have some clothes that fit- I can walk around campus- Stanford is huge btw-
BUT when I get back it is me time
My baby graduated and I know in the lat weeks of my Dad's life he mentioned a few times to me that I have lots of years ahead and I should make the best of them..
ok!
Thanks for listening!
I shall be back on June 19th!
Make healthy choices - take good care of yourselves!!!
It will be a 91 Day Nutritarian Boot Camp fo rme- and will share with you guys! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have a great time Em!

I just did a bit of calculating looking at he numbers you gave.
Ooh boy. Looking at the numbers you gave, I am 5.6, means I should weigh 95+24= 119 lbs... Groan. That's 54 kilogram. I weighed 58 kg ONCE in my adult life, when I just got out of hospital and felt I was really skinny.
I weigh about 196 lbs now. So that is a looooong way to go. I don't really get it though because Dr. F says, in the video mentioned by REJ, that we should go for a BMI of 23? In my case a BMI of 23 would mean I weigh 66 kg, not 54. That's a difference of 12 kg = about 26 lbs???!!

But, let me just focus on one pound at a time. My main goal now is to get out of the 'obese' category and into the 'overweight' category. I need to lose about 4.5 kg to get there, that's about 10 lbs.

REJ, is there something I / we can do to help you get back on track?

Dr. Joel Fuhrman gave a talk entitled "Understanding and Resolving Food Addiction and Emotional Over-Eating". Some people may not like his style, because he's quite direct, but that's what I need to hear in order to take things seriously.

Hi Em, I hope that you'll enjoy your son's graduation and have a wonderful vacation with your family!

I'm finding it a bit challenging to get back on track since my son's visit, so I listened to a new Joel Fuhrman presentation. It always motivates me to listen to Dr. Fuhrman. Even though I've heard most of it before, it helps me to refocus on what is and what is not permitted on a nutritarian diet. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Y8

I will be mostly offline-
So happy to see us all- 6 of us together for family vacation + celebrations
so-
will drop in when I get back-
Should be able to eat very healthy- plenty of greens and fruit and veg while away and plenty of walking and perhaps a run with son !- so catch up when I get back!

I will be doing a kind of reboot too when I get back- focus on hitting as close to ideal weight according to Dr. Joel before my physical in Sept- that will be my new goal.
His guidelines:
For men: 105 lb for the first 5 ft; 5 lb for each inch over 5 ft
For women: 95 lb for the first 5 ft; 4 lb for each inch over 5 ft
I am 5'5" (a tiny bit more..)= 115 pounds- I will add 8 pounds on that=123.4 as my goal.
It is not random but based on my past health- anything over 130 and I was ok but not optimum and under 120 I seemed prone to colds.
So!
Off for a bit and then catch up soon!
oh..and I plan on using these two sites that I have mentioned before to help guide me
(and I am getting those plastic lids for my mason jars- the othe rones are a bit rusty)
hellonutritarian.com/
and aslo this youtube- although I do find my self zoning out on her droning on at times:
-also she is marketing herself a bit much- I get it we all have to make a living BUT I don't need to buy anything from her..still some good stuff-
youtube.com/user/TheWateringMouth
and so I find myself listening more to : youtube.com/channel/UC8fG5eV1Q5res0B

As it is - you seek and you shall find.

Good that I checked in with you guys today. I got some much needed encouragement from your great results. I'm still doing the Nutritarian diet when not on vacation. But oh does vacation ever set me back. I've got 5 added lbs to lose, and they're not budging. I'll need those beets for energy for all the exercise I've just started. I stopped by a store for some organic kale on sale yesterday and they were all out. I was indignant. Got some cabbage though, and I'll still have a great dinner tonight.

~ as I said before I think many of us have got this way of eating figured out and are busy living life off computer! Nothing wring with that -life emoticon to you about family circumstances and hope you are taking care of u=yourself too!

The good health is a great motivator to keep going - as well as when we retrain the taste buds to not want salt and fat the food is incredible! Variety!

Hi! I've not been on the computer much, I'm busy with the care for my father and the family problems this brings...
I'm hanging on to my plan to not eat sugary foods, and doing fairly well with that. Trying to get in the beans and greens as I go along.

Hope everybody is good!
-we almost bought a house but people who put an offer on it got it- which I think worked out. Small- 964 sq. feet of living area- was having trouble figuring out where to put piano. Not a big one- spinet but still..so!

Off to get some greens!
Love the food! Love the good health- looking forwards to son's graduation-I always seem to lose weight as it is easy to find good healthy food in California- Palo Alto + all the walking!

as for the house- so looking forward to having a dishwasher some day! We rent here and landlord does not want one in here.. at least no greasy slimy pans from cooking decaying rotting flesh! Cuz I don't eat that crap!!!

Movies- emoticon I recommend The Green Book
and The Book Shop!
- if you have not seen them
ok!

Good to see you post, REJ!

How nice that your son is with you and noticed your weight loss and supports you!

I've not been around very much (except for a few blogs as White-2) because I had flu, and my father is not doing well, and this brings also confrontations (and worse) with siblings. It's asking a lot of me to be honest, I am doing my best to cope.

We were going to go on holiday but as it is we are delaying it and maybe will come up with a different plan.
I love this team and I am so glad you guys are here, focusing on ETL and plant based food. Just want to let you know that if I am not here it's not out of disinterest.
Should you not hear from me I am either dealing with family issues or on vacation, but I really look forward to being here often again once things (hopefully) become more calm.

I'm glad to see you're doing so well, Em! emoticon

My son is definitely not a vegetarian. He used to be a bodybuilder and is more paleo than anything else. We've been having some interesting discussions. But no matter where our discussions go, he always ends by saying: "But whatever you're doing, mom, keep doing it, because it's working! I agree. emoticon

No matter how slow you go, you are STILL lapping everybody on the couch.

My son John (who is visiting me for 2 weeks) is still in bed sleeping. It's 2 hrs earlier here than his own time zone. Gives me a bit of time to check in with my Sparkfriends.

It was great to be able to chat with him far into the night! And to get a REAL mommy hug, not just those cheap virtual ones. LOL!

I've lost over 50 lbs. since John last saw me (2 years ago). Within 15 minutes of arriving, he asked: "Mom, have you lost weight? You are looking gooood!" And last week, my doctor took me off ALL my diabetes medication. (I was still taking a small dose of Metformin.) Talk about motivation to continue my nutritarian lifestyle! emoticon

thank you!
Yes- I am feeling good- younger! which is great as I had my birthday this month.

DH and I both had a small smoothie and I made the chickpea flour omelettes from Prevent Heart Disease book- Esselstyn's book. They were really good. I made 3 and I was going to save one but DH loved them so- we split the third one
Here is the recipe- I fold mine over
forksoverknives.com/recipes/chickpea

melet/#gs.cdd51f

I don't make things from flour usually- but I had some in freezer and it was a nice Sunday brunch thing to do

Congrats on being a Great Aunt now!

You sound quite cheerful, Em, this lifestyle is probably doing you a lot of good! :)

Yes I too think that the Paleo diet is popular is because people stop eating junk and sugar and processed stuff AND they probably add a lot of plants to their diet too, compared to before, to replace the stuff they cut out.

The ONLY reason that paleo and keto works is because it makes people stop eating processed foods..but then they are eating saturated fats and then on top of it going for high calorie foods that are low in nutrition compared to vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds and grains.
-these folks are starving themselves of nutrients and over time will do damage.

I'm back full swing into all the good foods. And yes - we are on a budget but it can be done. I don't spend much on supplements but more on food. I take a B12.

Roasted beets!! YUM!
Got a bunch of kale and am going to cook tha t..some beans..have been keeping it simple.
Salt - I am lowering it- it is a tough one! I'm usin gmore lemon and vinegars which I did not think would work but it does.

Beautiful day today!
Sunny
Open houses- some more tomorrow
and btw I am a Great Aunt since yesterday. My sister who is a new Grandma is sending me pictures...and pictures and pictures lol of the new baby

I am doing a bit of research for a friend online who is dealing with inflammation so that's how I came across that video. I am watching this one right now.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1R82DBb5Cs

I like that it explains why the Paleo Diet is not a good idea of you have auto-immune diseases.

I find it so fascinating that food can make such a big difference. I just wish I dared recommend this video to my friend who deals with MS... but I think I mentioned the role of food once already and she discarded it...
I've tried telling another friend who has suffered from diabetes for decennia now and who lost a foot due to it two years ago, about ETL but he came up with several reasons (excuses, really) as to why it would not work for him. So I gave up.
