Yesterday I officially started the 6-week aggressive version. Tea with plant milk on waking, fruit for breakfast, black-eyed beans/peas stewed with spinach for lunch, raw tomatoes with flax and sunflower seeds for dinner. I did have one snack, some more fruit, because I had a very tough day working online all day.
I weighed in at 72.5 kg, body fat 25.9%.

i think rice cales and corn thins, although they are whole grains, are high glycemic 'cuz of the way they are processed.

I feel happy now that I got back on track after two days of 'mistakes'. I seem to be getting the hang of this way of eating more.

Still doing my best to follow the program as well as I can. I figure it's important to keep trying.

I look forward to coming home from our vacation in June and being able to dedicate more time and effort to ETL.

Glad to hear it!

How are you doing with ETL? And Oonaowl?

I had a big slip on Saturday when I was exhausted from travelling to see my father in hospital. On monday I did better but had some unplanned glutenfree bread.
Yesterday there was a big family drama once again (my brother being very nasty and me blowing up at him) and once more I travelld 5 hours to see my father. I gave in and had 2 candy bars on the train.
I did take a huge salad with me and fruit and ate that.
To my surprise the scale said that I lost a pound this morning, that gives me courage to get back on track.

Started this a few days ago. I did this about 10 years ago but was dealing with digestive illnesses that made me stop. I have about 15 pounds to lose, hoping to get there by summer (and keep it off). I am 51 in menopause, been eating whole food plant based low fat past 2 months, high starch, and no weight lost. I think I may be insulin resistant from the overweight (was always slim before my 40's). Anyway, I have come up with a simple daily meal plan that is working well for me! Easy meals that I enjoy-this is key for me. Nothing complicated, expensive or time consuming.

I just copied (and adjusted a bit) for your convenience the basic rules of the six week ETL plan;

In unlimited quantities, you may eat:

Raw veggies (strive to eat 1 lbs per day)
Steamed or cooked green vegetables, eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and more (strive to eat 1 lbs per day)
Beans and other legumes. eat 1 cup daily
At least four fresh fruits per day, but no juice. You can have frozen fruit, but not canned.

In limited quantities, you may eat:

1 cup per day of cooked starchy vegetables or whole grains (winter squash, corn, potatoes, rice, bread, cereal). 1 cup of starchy vegetables or grains equals 1 slice of bread.
1 ounce per day of raw nuts and seeds
2 ounces per day of avocado
2 tablespoons per day of dried fruit
1 tablespoon per day of ground flaxseed

Off-limits:

Dairy products
Animal products
Snacks between meals
Fruit juice
Oils
Processed foods
Coffee

It's best to avoid alcoho and coffeel if possible, but you can have one drink or one cup of coffee a day if that will help you stay on the plan.

https://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/eat-to-li
ve-diet-review

After the firs 6 weeks or after you've reached a healthy weight you can do the Life Plan, which means you can have 10% of your daily calories (for a woman about 160-180 calories worth) of the 'off-limit' foods. However animal products should be limited to no more than 5 % of the total daily calories, because they increase one's chance of getting cancer.

My guess is that rice cakes are not part of ETL because they don't offer a lot of nutrients, compared to the amount of calories they provide.

Well, there is actually a brand of vegan snack foods called Freggies!
I wonder why rice cakes are not allowed. They are made of whole brown rice, just popped before pressing together. I love corn cakes, if that is their name, like rice cakes but made of yellow corn. I have been known to eat half a jar of peanut butter in one sitting, spoonful by spoonful straight out of the jar, so I rarely buy it. I do love tahini and use it the same way you use peanut butter, as a spread on GF bread. It counts towards my seeds. I've used it as a salad dressing and even to whiten tea when I had run out of plant milk.
Thank you for your suggestion re hotel breakfast. I might take the fruit with me to eat mid-morning. I'm not that hungry first thing in the morning, tea with milk keeps me going.

Oh, 'freggies' just means 'fruit and veggies (vegetables)'.
Rice cakes officially are not 'allowed' on the Eat to Live plan! And peanut butter I think no more than 30 grams per day of nuts / seeds / nut butters total. I was too tempted by those foods! I notice I can follow the plan with more ease now that I am no longer eating them, at all.

Unfortunately the parcel from Amazon was damaged in transit and returned to them, so I had to re-order. The silver lining is that they offered free postage so I added some more vegan cookery books and books by other leading plant-based researchers, as well as some books on the ethics of veganism.
I had to google 'freggies'. I don't think we have these in Greece but they reminded me a bit of the vegetable "meatballs" at IKEA, I've just looked them up and they are vegan so I might get some. Generally we cook from scratch, I even make my own plant milks, but it's useful to have something in the freezer for the occasional emergency. I am trying to reduce grains and starches but rice cakes with peanut butter sound like a very nice treat! Yesterday I took a break from beans because my digestive system was suffering. In the evening I made a nice zoodle/courgetti stir-fry with mushrooms.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation. I travel for work at least once a month and try as I might I cannot lose then, I'm just glad if I don't gain. My go-to hotel breakfast is eggs, now these are not allowed I wonder what I'll have.

I am not exactly doing the ETL six week plan but I AM doing my best to work with Dr. Fuhrman's suggestions.
One week ago I decided to cut out the rice cakes and peanut butter that I had been eating too much of. I was eating mostly freggies, beans and nuts beside the rice cakes with the peanut butter.
I intend to keep going like this as well as I can. I'll turn this into some sort of 'six week challenge' so I'lll post here about how I do.
I am also posting about my journey with ETL in a thread that I started here: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/

End of May we'll go on vacation, which means traveling a lot, so I am curious to see how that goes.

Hi Everyone
On Monday I started the 6-week Aggressive plan, using Fuhrman's End to Dieting book and a checklist I found online, while waiting for the ETL book to arrive from Amazon. I am trying to omit the whole-grains/starches at first to speed up weight loss, hence 'aggressive'.
Still, I gained weight the first two days. I realise it's my body not used to so many beans/pulses and fruit, since for a long time I've been eating Dukan or Paleo/AIP.
